I can see Chris Harris taking a d/u job if his average fits - or Scott Nicholls Interesting to see if Adam Ellis could be tempted back to the PL
-
Easy just get Dan Bewley into your team somehow!

Ole Olsen once famously remarked that the best way to sort out UK speedway was to shut down the Elite league. I think his off the cuff comment is closer than we ever envisaged and the time is right to invest in the NL. Our much meligned promoters should come clean and say that we cannot continue as we are with an EL that's become a joke. Perhaps then it will concentrate people's mind if they want this great sport to survive or not and the NL will become the lifeblood of the sport as it frankly should.

Plymouth Vs Rye House 19/08/2016 @ 1915
GWC replied to pitgate52's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Defeat snatched from the jaws of victory!! Inspired guest in Douglas - was he the best available?? Good effort away but really should have been a nailed on win for Rye. -
Strength of teams needs to be addressed if we are to retain the current race formula. Otherwise weaker reserves will score nothing and teams who grab the best available will prosper.

I think we now know why there was a camber on the first and second bend - it maybe stopped gate 4 becoming a nailed on first place! And next season I hope the BSPA have the guts to penalise teams who have more than 2 riders competing in the Elite by upping their average otherwise this league will become a farce. -

Lunna certainly likes Rye and a 4 point average to boot !- hope he's on their shopping list for next season. Who owns him? I suppose Bewley would eventually have a good meeting he's been to Rye more times than I have this season! Quite how Glasgow aren't running away with this league is baffling and another team with a strong Elite presence. Thought the meeting had real drama and another last heat deacider although I thought Robbo got 3rd in heat 13 as I was standing in line at the gate. Similar as the meeting verses Somerset denied a point at least. -

I keep banging on about this but if the Premier league allow's so many riders to double up/down or whatever then it's holding back riders in the National league. -

Unless the Raiders have a team with youngsters like the Brummies it will be a waste of time running again. Better to have second half racing and MDL meetings where the current lads will be more suitable. -

I think Josh deserves some praise for finding grip on a bald track - Robbo probably keeping out of the way ! -
Berwick V Rye House Ko Cup 06/08/16 7-00pm
GWC replied to Normski's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Berwick got a good draw at Rye with 2 good guests and Robbo having an off day. Will be close but Berwick not as strong for this tie. -
If you don't have a PL place then it makes sense to allow NL riders to guest irrespective of their average - the sport or rather promoters complicate a simple replacement scheme. Draft riders will only work providing they don't increase their average considerably otherwise we will get into the situation where promoters will cry 'it's not fair' your rider is averaging 6 in a reserve position.

Rockets V Somerset Sun 31st July 4pm Double Header
GWC replied to waco's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Some good points!! Come off it Shads the bloke is a serial pessimist. We have ridden 4 matches against Somerset and did OK in 3 of them not thrashed. The Lambert and then Klindt farce made the team under strength and that's been our lot but have to say I've not enjoyed a season like the current one since the Tai Woffinden era. -
Rockets V Somerset Sun 31st July 4pm Double Header
GWC replied to waco's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
As Shad's stated there was no gamble with BWD he was always going to average 5 and Allen was better developed rider since he couldn't get into the Berwick team a few years ago.I'm pretty sure a lot of clubs would have liked those two, certainly Rye did! Would also say that Rob Suttleworth was impressive and gives notion to the number of good young riders there are in the National league who should be getting more chance in the Premier. As much as we like a strong Premier it is holding up these guys development I feel. -

GWC replied to waco's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Considering the Somerset team are mostly Elite riders I think Rye can feel a bit hard done by especially taking on the top team with a huge gap in home meetings. Once again a double header produced a super sick track that didn't suite home riders - Likke especially. Tungate takes after his name Tun-gate! Reminded me of Eric Gunderson in his hey day! -
Indeed and that is what I said so why the sarcasm!
-
BSPA using this as a cash cow to improve their dwindling funds maybe. Dislike these events as seems to favour the home sides riders. As for Ed he was busting a gut for Lakeside on Friday so if he was 'going through the motions' I would stick a big club fine on him - not impressed!

Glasgow V Rye House Pl Sunday 17 July 2016
GWC replied to SharpenRake's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Yes - a team of 4 heat leaders against a team of 2 so unless Rye's reserves have a stormer this will be our away performance. still, makes for some good home meetings this season. -
Ben has improved a lot under the management with more speed and aggression. However against Cradley it was back to the old Ben so consistency still eludes. I saw him at Eastbourne and he was terrific on a grippy track so perhaps that's where he feels confident. Raiders novices, and I call them that because that's where they currently are at,need more track time ...simples!

Actually Locke reminds me of Danyon Hume last season as he has a good style but has not yet mastered the art of staying on his bike - Hume had the same problem as I recall...
