  1. Time was when ice hockey authorities in this country realised the sport doesn't have too big a following and tried reducing travelling costs. For example Peterborough would play at Edinburgh on a Saturday and Dundee the Sunday to cut down on trips up & down the country. When the Scottish clubs came here they'd play Peterborough one day and Milton Keynes the next. There are several posts on this forum mentioning low attendances and even some stating speedway is dying. Now I realise clubs have "historic and traditional" days of the week when they host meetings, but would it work if there was some overview? Under this clubs would travel to (say) Edinburgh and Berwick on consecutive days whilst Rye House and Ipswich might host the same team on successive days. This idea might not be popular at first, but if it cuts down on long distance travel, that's a cost saving and if the riders stayed at the same Travel Lodge/Premier Inn etc, that might even engender better team spirit. This was just a thought, but I'm interested if anyone else agrees with it, or why the idea's a nonstarter.
  2. Some friends went to Truckfest yesterday. I asked them about standing in the seated areas. Security immediately told anyone who tried standing to sit down. Some people at the back sat on the backs of their seats to be a little higher and they were told to sit down properly as well.
  3. Caught the tail end of a radio interview yesterday; "I'd love to become Manager at Peterborough, but the BSPA rules don't allow this as I'm the promoter at Kings Lynn".
  4. "Business and family commitments" was the reason given this morning.
  5. Just heard on the local news that Panthers' Team manager has stepped down. They have a stand in for the next four meetings by which time they hope to have found a long term replacement.
  6. Listening to the interview on Radio Cambs this morning; "One or two of our riders need to have a good look at themselves after that showing".
  7. OK folks, a simple query. The British GP is always at the Mill Stad. In recent years we've hosted World Cup semi finals at Peterborough and King's Lynn and this year the Final itself will be staged in Manchester. What are the criteria for deciding which track hosts prestigious events; is it track length, ground capacity, ease of access for spectators, or a combination of such factors please?
  8. Just after the 4' mark it appears to me Yellow hit Blue whilst overtaking. As Orion posted, you can see it from both sides.
  9. Fully agree with you there. Yes there were some top riders there, but riding for made up teams was neither a GP nor a club match. Given the selection of riders, it might have made better viewing if they had ridden as individuals like a GP.
  10. In an interview broadcast on BBC Radio Cambs this morning Ged sounded puzzled by Scunthorpe's performance. "They just weren't at the races, but I don't know why". Coming on the heels of the draw at Sheffield, it's been a good start for the Panthers.
  11. On today's 6.30am Sports News on BBC Cambs we heard "There are five potential number ones in this team" and spectators were asked to "just trust the Management team".
  12. Interesting list of names from across the years in this thread. I thought Emil Saifutdinov was at different times; aggressive (totally acceptable), and either foolish or dangerous by some of his riding and on other occasions actually "dirty".
  13. I found a link to an unofficial site referring to 1928 stating how speedway and greyhound racing shared the circuit. http://www.greyhoundderby.com/Carlisle%20speedway.html
  14. Surely the Team of the Year will be the tennis players in plural. Our swimmers and gymnasts won a shoal of medals earlier in the year so already out of the public consciousness. Individual personality (due to allowing the public to vote en masses) either Lewis Hamilton or Wayne Rooney.
  15. I feel play offs in any sport are there so that if your are 7th with a few weeks to go, you can still make the play offs and become Champions (speedway, ice hockey and both codes of rugby), or get promoted (football). This keeps interest up and thus fans coming through the turnstiles. Then the play off matches have so much hanging on their results, more fans than usual are likely to attend, so yes, play offs are all about generating revenue.
  16. Good news; having watched GPs and Elite & Premier League meetings on TV, my Grandson wants me to take him to Peterborough's meetings next season.
