well that just about sums up our season ..... our number 1 couldnt be arsed so thats that i feel sorry for george and alan ......... badly let down im a lambert fan ............ but this is totally unacceptable newcastle should sack him now congrats to glasgow ..... deserved winners for us ..... just a typical replay of our season ......... just not good enough all 7 riders can look at themselves morris sadly typical 2 lasts when we needed a 7 point haul from him robbo and luddo couldnt gate for toffee reserves ... less said wells .... worst meeting at brough in years and what on earth was the thinking in heat 15 .......... geez we get a 5 1 in heat 13 off gates 1 and 3 ........... so of course we pick 2 and 4 .... defies belief perhaps we didn't fancy the fixture congestion and conceded the tie to Glasgow
-
well you would have raced on the 6th may but a bloody replay needed to be done ...... I still fail to see how this is newcastles fault .......... and frankly guys I have no sympathy for you ............ in the last few years we have been impacted by the series of bizarre rulings if you want to blame anyone blame the bspa who allow this farce they should do what they do in football ............ have a dedicated week set aside for knock out cup matches still workington and Newcastle might not be around to ruin your cup campaign next year ............
-
MANSE - don't let the facts get in the way of a good story the replay was done by end of June so both teams are responsible for the delay .............. don't pin it on Newcastle

trying not to !!!!! but it is has a debacle of a speedway season ..... and I don't mean results wise for us everything has felt wrong about this season (as was predicted by many before the league started) FOR ALL TEAMS its been a case of just lets fit meetings in when we can !!!! hence we have a cup competition started in april only in the quarter finals by October !!! and we have the playoffs done and dusted when only 3 of 10 teams had completed their fixtures !!!!!!!!!! ive seen 1 speedway meeting since mid August .........and theres still potentially 6 to go !!!!!!!!!!!!! sorry for all the !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but really it does beggar belief
-
the fixture list is a joke - I have never known so many meaningless meetings in October cup - again bspa a joke ..... why teams were not ordered to play is beyond me of course if it were Newcastle we would be ordered to field a weakened team who can forget last years utter disgrace of Newcastle being ordered to ride v redcar with 3 riders so the league cup could be completed in july .... final is October as rest of league rode when they wanted !!!!!!!!!!!!!1 league - why wasn't the league deadline set as 30th sept with play offs down as per in October just another brainless decision every year the league gets into a mad rush to finish ..... they have only had all year to plan ..... it just defies belief actually - I cannot remember when the fixture list was incomplete............. normally when you start the season all the fixtures are set .......... our fixture list has even up til august had at least 8 meetings not scheduled and of course the crowds for meaningless fixtures in October will be much lower than competitive meetings in the summer and we wonder why speedway is struggling crowds will be even lower in October for what are now end of season friendlies (bar Glasgow)

dare I ask but why is Robert not riding in the pairs this Saturday so I reckon for various reasons but in 6 potential meetings fours pairs and riders in 16 and 17 .......... Robert has made it to just 1 ........ that's poor I went to 4's to be disappointed, went to Glasgow for it to be rained off and now with no Robert .... I doubt I will go to the pairs now and why is it robbo not the skipper .............

What Would You Change In Speedway Next Season?
mauger65 replied to 4thbender's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
where would i start !!!!!!!!! -
Steve apologies for the rant but my reply still stands ........... common sense is in very short supply from the ruling bodies ... whether it be the bspa, fim or whovever i feel heartily sorry for the likes of george and alan who have to try and work with other promoters who are more obsessed with what suits them rather the greater good of the sport
-
unbelievable .............. that reply just about sums up why speedway is where is it is so who is stopping Newcastle fielding a replacement ? have the authorities thought about implementing a simple rule change to allow such a facility eeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrr nooooooooooo lets just stick our heads in the sand lets serve up .... utter garbage and hide behind the rules ....or sorry there isn't a rule for this situation ....... utter crap ..... use a bit of intelligence and common sense for pitys sake it is utter crap ............... boy does this sport need a Bernie ecclestone to knock together the heads of promoters and give this great sport of ours a chance to survive for the last 5 years ...everyone is banging on about falling attendances yet every winter the promoters say we are listening to the fans and do sod all as the good promoters are overruled but the selfish ones I defy anyone (apart from Sheffield - and congrats to them) to say that this debacle of a league set up has been a success after 4 weeks we could all have predicted the top 4 ... the debacle of the pairs ......... rained off when it shouldn't and then put at Sheffield (what imagination) .... why not redcar, Berwick, Scunthorpe or dare I say Newcastle the joke of the 10 team no 8 team no yes its the 10 team 4 team tournament ............... although it was a cracking meeting ......... the bspa covered themselves in glory........ not the riders championship awarded to the most northern track in the league .... beggars belief .... and at a track with the worst parking facilities ..... even worse than ours
-
this utter farce of a season cannot come to an end soon enough no wonder speedway is dying in this country as the bspa stupid illogical rule book defies belief speedway is in the entertainment business.... and if the promotors of this country think embleton v cook is entertaining then it is says it all the leagues, the replacement rider rules and team building all need looking at in the winter I for one am fed up of seeing only 9 teams - with guests and nl reserves standing in I will be there tonight but I understand why many wont whether I am there next year I don't know and I have been going since 1975 I'm not blaming George and Alan - I'm holding all speedway promoters to account .............. the garbage of the league drummed up this year is unacceptable and at this rate the country will be down to 8 teams within 5 years as club after club will fold

A cracking meeting which at last saw the real diamonds turn up - brilliant Yes the meeting was too long - but there 3 delays for injuries and 3 for our ever-infuriating tapes !!! As expected plenty of whining from Workington I find it hard to believe a Newcastle official would tell the ref the comets were ready and the ref would say ok ............... fake news perhaps from Mr Jackson That aside ............. regardless of the fact that Craig Cook is British champion ...... he's not entitled to endless time to get his bike repaired and his gestures to ref were quite pathetic The referee had given plenty of time to both riders to get the bike repaired OR GET ON A 2ND BIKE - a fact that seemed to have missed the Workington fraternity Im a huge cook fan - but when his team needed him his attitude was frankly very poor ............. is he incapable of riding another bike Instead of bleating on, Workington should look at the own riders performances ............... we should have not been in the lead by the last heat Yes you were unlucky with sarjeant (and would have won with him) but injuries happen however proctor and Jorgensen were poor and as for Williamson - he hardly put himself out on heat 14 ........... he only had to beat hopwood and the comets were favourites as heat 15 had 3-3 written all over it Its a pity the heat 15 debacle is masking a fantastic meeting and great fight back Simple fact was when the pressure was on in the last 6 heats, the Diamonds riders wanted it more .... well done guys for fighting to the end ..... the best team over the 2 legs won
-
Congrats to redcar ... superb team performance...u outgated us and were more aggressive... potentially playoff contenders and the best 2.38 avg reserve in the league As for diamonds a real eye opener ... already changing my mind ... thought we would be 3rd but can't see us getting anywhere near the playoffs 3 away defeats where top 5 are not cutting it .... our gating was shocking and we were weak around track and only looked like being passed ... exc 3 pts doubled ... 10 points from our top 2 is shocking in 9 rides .... only Lindgren turned up .... and as for our reserves... sadly the weakest pair in the league and I can't see any signs of improvement Apart from berwick I can't see where we will get an away point ... not win ... I mean point...... scunthorpe is our bogey ground and heaven knows what Edinburgh ipswich and Sheffield will do to us
-
Apologies - I thought Richie was 3rd in their averages ........... replace Richie with Richard Lawson and its the same logic ............. the point Im making is apart from Sheffield I think the rest are unable to adequately cover r/r for their 3rd-4th or 5th riders with the lower limit, most teams have squeezed the bottom to keep a strong top end because of heats 13 and 15 ... the downside is most r/r are covered by the lower riders sadly its not if and buts .... the only thing that is truly guaranteed in speedway is injuries .............. sadly
-
the mid point of those averages only come to 42.75 .............. they will need to be a damn sight higher to challenge for league and cup the averages will increase because in an ideal world and all teams are equal there are 42 points available in 14 heats (I wonder how this be factored in over the season) title winners invariably have a 'rolling' average of 45+ and a cma of 50+ Anyway, I think Robert could be 10+ as I only see the Cookie monster averaging more than him ............. just will he be available enough to win us honours
-
I wasn't comparing Richie with Lewis and Ashley Glasgow have 3 heat leaders and 4 strong 'reserves' ........... all im saying is if Richie goes down injured, instead of 8.5 rider taking 4 rides they will have 3 rides taking by 4 pointers ............ Likewise if Lewis or Ashley get injured they have 2 or 3 three rides covered by our 2 pointers I just fear we could see some awful meetings ..... and by we I mean the paying public anywhere The average lowering will lower the quality of the product and too many rides will be taken by NL riders struggling to make the grade
-
well 8 teams built ... heres my prediction so far 1 Sheffield 2 Glasgow 3 us 4 Ipswich 5 Workington 6 Berwick 7 redcar 8 Scunthorpe assuming we are allowed to field our riders this year ......... we should have in good chance in plrc, pairs, fours and as we will be strong at home no one will fancy meeting us in cup or playoffs mind you I think there will be some wild a wacky results around this season ... I will be amazed if anyone has an unbeaten record at home I know injuries are part and parcel of speedway, but only Sheffield look capable of carrying r/r for any length of time if Glasgow lose Richie they lose a heat leader for 3 strong reserves taking 3 rides if we lose rose or morris .... we will be in trouble ... even at home and likewise the rest look incapable of covering injury also looks like kus and robson are 2 of the casualties of 40 limit and only 10 teams ... very sad
-
good looking side - my favourites for title so far with Glasgow 2nd and my diamonds 3rd Bjerre and Brandford could make a mockery of their averages ............ brandford best reserve in this league will make mincemeat of most the reserves the key to most league winners...... an out and out number 1 and a high scoring reserve at 6 .... you have both
-
nearly all the teams will have 'poor' reserve pairs all the promoters are taking a gamble for a few - it will be a success ............. for the others it could be a nightmare especially if you have to use r/r for your 4th or 5th rider for any length of time 10/11 rides per meeting by a weak reserve pairing ...... could be some painful hammerings .... home and away still think the bspa have got this all wrong on cost cutting to restrict team limits to 40 .....
-
well really pleased lambert is back question is .... can we arrange meetings to avoid needing guests 1-5 is solid and looks good for pairs and fours reserves is a gamble and r/r could be a real issue ......... but its gonna be the same for most teams think promoters have done the best they can - well done ...another good team Glasgow look the team so far with smith signed and if sissis rides at 6 ..... they will walk away with the league
-
cos I don't think we will get the 'star' reserves likely bewley....... we didn't do very well with our 7 this year ......... that's all im saying ........ personally I thought the promoters assembled a cracking team this year ..... but with just 40 its gonna be a darn side harder ..... imho
-
your taking more of a leap of faith with inexperienced unknowns ................... I think my real point is the weakness of reserves in this years huge 10 team league ... means that a team whose 2 reserves could click - could walk away with the league easily I can easily see a decent reserve pairing picking up 10 points per meeting (say sissis and ayres riding for Glasgow) whilst a few others with 2 danny Philips (a little harsh I know) will average 3 points per every 8 races in a meeting - a 7 point differential is enormous and I can see that happening so far - teams are packing the main body and the its reserves being squeezed............. I just think the 40 point average will create a runaway league champion (and sadly not us)
-
looking at the team building so far ... it appears the reserves pairings are all going to be a lot weaker .... the strong number 6 reserve - recently critical to winning a title looks like an endangered species atm 2 issues I see 1) races becoming more predictable ...... one the joys was watching the no 6 (rose, morris, sissis, bdw etc) beating the away star riders at home ............. looking less likely 2) potential league winners will probably come from some young rider almost doubling his average as he picks off weaker reserves (someone like a bewley could cash in big style) more worrying could be if both reserves in your team are stars you could dominate whilst if you have 2 duffers it could be a long old season .............. at least previously with most teams trying to field a decent number 6 .. it kept a relatively level playing field.
