Speedway in the UK is going to end up dying up it's own exhaust pipe anyway. Walking away from it being on TV will just hasten the end. They have never considered Pay Per View streaming which could bring in another revenue stream. The "dinosaurs" are not us old grey-haired fans lingering on the terraces.
-
It is these amateurish attempts at "getting the message out" that many fans condemn them for. Why would a major sponsor ( without previous knowledge of the sport ) approach them with a UK speedway wide deal? It's just laughable. The BSPA must hope that they have, with these minor tweaks , held on to as much of the existing fanbase as possible. The longed for newbie hordes are unlikely to pop in as as result of the nonexistent marketing campaign proposed for 2018.

Or as is much more likely, Buster decided against it when he realised he would have to give up some of his Iron Grip on his club? Not having things done "his way" IS Buster's biggest problem and unless and until he allows someone else to have responsibility for some areas of how the club is run - not much can change. Especially the area of communication with the fans so that they don't feel like mushrooms ( you know, kept in the dark and fed on bullrubbish). I am OK with that except for MPT because he has gone about as far as his ambition and talent ( and machinery ) will take him.

Over the last three or four years 75% ( or more ) of races ended as a race ( or a motorcycle sport spectacle ) after the second bend exit - first lap. Open your eyes because it is mostly true and has been a big part of nearly driving me away after more than 60 years. Processional racing where even the minor points are not being fought over ( or hardly convincingly pushed for ). That is down to the riders - either they don't believe they can pass or challenge closely on that track OR they are well paid enough for being in that race ( or from a match guarantee ) AND they might gate better next time and get in a decent 2nd place and settle for that. If the faster bikes and less capable tracks are the cause of the motorcycle parade in too many heats - something must change if you want newbies to be excited, aroused and eager to come back! Or even for some the silver haired, die hard "dinosaurs" to be convinced enough to give it "yet another go" ( not that we feel very welcome according to some posters on here - jealousy because we get a couple of quid off? Or that we do not present a good image for the 20 - 40 year old newbies about to turn up in droves? Triple.H wrote " I know the promoter is unfortunately disabled but in this day and age couldn't a Skype link have been set up ?" re the Workington Promoter attending the conference. Skype? I can't see the BSPA being able to handle that, when their Live Facebook " Chairman's Address" was a debacle technically and and ill prepared rambling on performance. I teach students English in Japan three times a week via Skype so it can't be too difficult.

Indeed I did misunderstand - a rush of blood to the head. But as you said very likely no Iversen because of Weds. Woffy and Robert Lambert would bring me back to my bench at the AFA.

They truly need to rest from their demanding weekend of negotiations, before adding anything else that might be useful, into the public domain. Being "wise and farsighted" is draining in the extreme - just ask Eeyore.
-
We will see if the "moaners" or the Well Done BSPA brigade are right, by the simple method of looking at if these proposals bring some old die hards back or even a decent smattering of newbies who attend a few times and build up the UK fanbase. Hmmm. Proof of the pudding and all that....

GRW123 wrote " No, this AGM has done nothing for me " And nothing for me either. Crowds ( sorry - large groups of supporters ) will continue to walk away, bit by bit until this time next year that will have to continue in one big league. What is so much more "elite" in the Premiership for 2018?.

What Would You Change In Speedway Next Season?
waytogo28 replied to 4thbender's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
As the Championship is now going to be THE place for better speedway, I need to move to Peterborough ( from King's Lynn ) as I have no transport to get to Alwalton otherwise. Can anyone lend me enough to finance the move at a low interest rate? -
Buster promised us a few weeks ago that he wanted more guests, as and when possible. So there is bound to be a new "rule" which permits them to fly in from somewhere ( or perhaps be cloned ).
-
What! You expect the myopic speedway promotion at KLS to have any awareness at all of what goes on in the rest of the world? As for making meetings run much more crisply - Buster is the Maestro of the 120 - 150 minute meeting! And that is without anything that is actually out of his control. It is going to be a season of same old, same old - with more support falling away.
-
No Niels now then, so if RL stays he is THE man in the new Under 8 team. Much as I like Robert I just cannot get "excited" about any of this New, New Dawn. Can't see how new fans would be attracted to it , or return even if there was a Free Admission meeting early on in the season.
-
Imagine how much a rider on 7.75 - 7.99 can demand and get for his services.
-
But at least the admission price is now going to fall below a tenner - isn't it? And a fiver for concessions.
-
£99 per meeting or £999? Can't see it being worth much more to the BT Sport portfolio of motorsport. And let's hope they have insisted on a £9.99 ticket for those who prefer it live!
-
That's what seems to be a missing ingredient within the BSPA and those they choose to work along side of them - very few "people" skills ( no "bedside " manner of any kind ). And sadly that is what is most needed to bring in new fans and even woo a few of the die hards back.
-
I am confident that 100% of supporters still interested in attending live matches in the stadium especially a KLS agree 100% with you. Your Big Task is to drum it into the club owner and who is better positioned to do that than you? He might say that is what he wants or intends. If it is so why does he get even the basics of it so so wrong at club level never mind at the BSPA?
-
From his hint a few weeks ago The Chairman was eager for there to be plenty more guests - whenever they are needed or seen as necessary. Let's hope that famed majority , actually controlling things ensure that that will be firmly knocked on the head buy saner views! Or will Buster get his way and end up with a casting vote on the issue of guests?

The last two days of posts on here truly deserve to be re-posted in the "Jokes" thread! They really have given me a good laugh and there are one or two more days to go ( before we get that correction on Tuesday ) LOVL! And that mikebv should be banned from the Forum for consistently coming up with excellent ideas that might help revive UK speedway ( but we'll let him off because we know that no-one in the BSPA bothers to read what we long serving - sorry - long suffering fans think )
-
Uhh? You are really having a laugh. Multiply the existing fan base for those sports (cricket, snooker darts and rugby ) by 100 if you are feeling kind or 1,000 if you are bring realistic! If there are no more than 30k speedway fans in the country ( or lets say 50k because it's near Christmas) . We are all confident that it needs to be promoted better / properly - THAT is the problem. The only worthwhile comment is - "Ha Ha Ha" Sidesplitting.
-
No, only season ticket holders would be ( and should be IMO ) other visiting fans would of course pay.
-
Only one person posted that they were expecting some news as the AGM got going, all the others - including myself voiced our hopes in anticipation of hearing genuinely positive things as soon as possible. Of course we knew we had to wait until near the end of the weekend ( for a leak ) or just after, but we have been waiting for at least 5 years for positive outcomes for AGMs over the years. Only a Promoter would say the fan's are delusional in any way or is it a trend developing from Somerset?
-
mikebv wrote " I think it would be far better to do 'Mini Season Tickets' whereby you purchase say the next five matches for the price of four" Fabulous idea but it would take an Almighty Rush of Blood to the Head of those in Tenerife, for it to catch on! Somebody give me Buster or Godfrey's text number and I will pass it on as constructive proposal from Lord Sugar ( because if they thought isa s speedway fan it would not make the agenda - even under the Agenda heading of " Adding VFM to Fan's Attending Meetings" ).

Speedway ... A Way Forward
waytogo28 replied to PHILIPRISING's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Euthanasia to empty the terraces of the boring old farts? Will the Exiting New Era for 2018 ( filled with terrific on track close racing & passing ) really then bring in hordes of 18 - 30's who can Do It Their Way? No problem then just give all fans over 40 years old a live feed to their computer or TvV for £5 a match . I will happily walk away with that and in fact "snap their hand off".
