Time For A Revamp Of The Gp's?
dtc replied to dtc's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
The money could be easily found 2 ways. 1 Say for the first year there would be one Maximum prize all season Frist come First served. First prize is curantly 11000 US$, which would be 13000 to find per year which is under $1100 per gp and less than $70 per gp per rider so the prizes could be re jigged or just not increaced with inflation next year. 2 Get a sponsor on board, For example "$24,000 for a MONSTER of a meeting", an extra 13k from Monster for sevral verbal or visual nods to the thousands/millions of viewers over 12 meetings over 6 months to a brand is cheap advertisng. -
This year I've gotten back into my speedway after a couple of years not watching it. I am enjoying it but i think it needs to learn from other sports to make it more exciting and bring the new riders through. 1 A bonus prize for a maximum (or the prize topped up) to 24000, pounds, euros, dollars, złoty etc dependant on the host country. I've looked thru the results and a maximum has happened around 6 times since the currant format was started. This would make the riders fight for each point rather than settling for second place, especially in the semis. (Snooker and darts both have bonus structures similar to this and they make the players try to to achive the maximum when they are close.) 2 A GP2 seriies to also act as qualifier for the GP,fully televised maybe on the friday night before the gp in new countries or the host country near to the GP, similar format to the gps with rotation of 16 riders from 24 ish with bias towards the host countrys riders. So in the uk it could be in Somerset. A final at the end of the season for a qualification for the GP with the bottom 7 GP riders from last year and top from GP2. 3 Involve more countrys this year there are 3 in Poland I know speedway is huge there but 3 is too many. Bring back Germany, Slovenia maybe add Australia, USA etc.

This is probably the way forward. My local cricket club has to provide a match report with scores and photos unless it is a "big" match. The same could be done for the local tv, rerun videos could make their material avalable to ITV/BBC even if is only one camera angle even if itsjust heat 15 of the best 5-1. I'm sure ive seen this when down the inlaws for Lakeside.

Threat To The World Cup
dtc replied to TwoMinuteWarning's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I personally loved the events in one country, i went to all the meetings in eastborne and poole a few years ago, it also meant that people followed the whole series. I'd like to see a test series maybe over 2 years with 6 or 7 riders 15 to 18 heats as well as the SWC. -

The Steve Shovlar Kareoke Experiance -
there was a artical in the Echo on Saturday. The stadium and SGP managment were saying that hotel prices in cardiff are a big rip off on event weekends. On a normal weekend there's plenty of choice arround £50 per night and probably a lot cheeper if you go to a B&B. As for hotels in cardifff near to the stadium the Big sleep is good clean but basic

they could have borrowed the GP air fence. its in bits to fit any track
-
Right now its nice and sunny here in ccardiff, it will jumper weather thisevening though probably
-
There is nothing to stop the BBC, ITV, C4 or even five getting the rights. Sky have the rights to the domestic and GP's at the moment a new tornimet would mean a new package for tv.
-
I would like to see a 5 torniment. With GB, australia, poland, sweden and denmark similar to the rugby version. meet each other once alternate home and away. (australia playing "away" for all matches".
-
cant see a gp in cardiffn march. th 6 nations will be on,the WRU will not let anything get in the way of that.

he's already there, even if he did fall on his butt!!!! ) -
So Mr BSI has told us the new GP format 15 riders plus one wildcard 20 heats with race points being GP points. Then 2 semis and a final. sounds like a lot more exitement than the curant format, and a lot more compatitive. Any thoughts??? Dave

The question i was rasing was when was an amarican or an aussie (or anyother natonality that does not have its own GP) last a wild card in the GP (excluding the aussie one a few years back). I was not asking if Wato would do well or not. I do wish people would stop making snide comments on their belefs in riders and answer the questions rased in the original Post.!!!
-
I was looking at the reslts table today and i have noticed Wild cards tend to be from the country it is in. I was wondering when was a Wildcard used that was NOT from the country it is being held in (Europians count in the Euro GP and Scandanavians in the Scandanavian). The reason i am wondering this is there are many Aussies such as Craig Watson who would do well in a GP as a wild card but dont get entered because of their Place of birth or Adoptive Country (so no Antonio does not count as a Brizilian ) TA DAve
