Will British Speedway Survive ?
pleasureboy60 replied to old bob at herne bay's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Speedway has been on a rapid decline for years and personally I cant see how it will survive all of this. Unlike Footballers and other sports people. Many Speedway riders only source of income relies on racing week in week out, whether it be in the UK or Europe. If this coronavirus escalates as experts seem certain it will, then I can foresee many riders hanging up their boots and quitting. I also think that if by some miracle we are able to race this season, then I fear crowds will dwindle and disappear, because of the constant fear the public has for contracting this dreadful virus. It is going to change peoples mindsets for a long time to come and I worry whether speedway will ever survive this both financially and publicly. -

I'm sure the wonderful owners of the showground will be putting the repair of the grandstand high on their agenda. Just unfortunate they have waited four days before the start of the season to announce this. Not like the showground authorities to be so inconsiderate!! -

For the second consecutive year I thought the racing was poor and boring. A typical makeshift track which offers dull, possessional racing, very little passing, no racing lines and did nothing to get me excited about. I attended the Wroclaw GP and this was speedway at its finest on a permanent track with passing in every race. Personally speaking, I would like to see the British GP moved to Belle Vue, but I can't see that happening. If 40,0000 fans are happy to pay extortionate money to watch boring racing, then I imagine Cardiff will be the preferred venue for years to come.

Peterborough Panthers 2019
pleasureboy60 replied to Flappy's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Personally I would sooner see the Panthers in the championship. next season, preferably without Chapman at the helm Better quality racing, more teams and let's face it, virtually the same riders we currently see in the premiership only cheaper!! -
Peterborough v Belle Vue 5/9/2019
pleasureboy60 replied to Bald Bloke's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Not awful at all! No disrespect to Simon Lambert but he's never ever developed into anything but a second string, average rider and I think it's because he's backed and sponsored heavily by his father's haulage business and doesn't need to prove himself when he's got such a generous backer. It's not like he's having to make sacrifices like other less fortunate riders. -

I think you will find that Lambert is financed by his dad's haulage business. Win or lose it doesn't really matter to him. -

Does anyone really care anymore who rides for us now. The wooden spoon is already in the trophy cabinet. -

Despite Chapman's plea for fans to turn out in force. I reckon there will be more track staff and medics there than supporters. Interest from the majority has long gone!!! -

I hope Buster Chapman was watching that. That's how to prepare a proper race track!!!!! -
As much as I don't like budget Chapman and his monopoly over British speedway. What are the other options if no one else wants to buy into a sport that's outdated, non profit making, poorly supported and governed by promoters who can hardly see beyond the end of their own noses? Let's face it, speedway is sinking fast and the warning signs have been illuminating tracks for years. I'm just pleased I'm able to witness speedway at Alwalton, all be it not the most exciting at present. You can't blame anyone for wanting to invest money into a sport that is still surviving by the skin of its teeth. I'm afraid to say that I'm going to make the best of a bad job, because I fear in less than five years time, speedway will have dried up completely as a spectator sport and then we really will have something to moan about!

I've almost given up with British speedway. Its been in decline for years and despite all the concerns about how to improve its popularity, here we are years later still in the same predicament. I've been a Peterborough supporter since the track opened in 1970. I've witnessed the good, the bad and currently the down right uncertainty. I sadly fear that unless someone takes a grip on this sport in less than 5 years it will be virtually finished. Having a man running 3 promotions is definitely not the way forward and should never be allowed to happen. Whatever his intentions, Buster is only in it for the money. I imagine the tracks that are currently losing money are being financed by those that are! Its obvious where Buster loyalties lie by his current ability to improve certain teams when they are not doing so well. Unfortunately it appears that the riders who are not performing for his other tracks are being used as fodder for Peterborough. Can't blame the riders, they simply are not good enough. I will continue to support my team for as long as they are in existence, but given the choice I would have sooner we stated in the lower leagues whereby the racing was far superior and more competitive. -
I'm looking for an avid Kings Lynn programme collector who might be able to help with some match details which i am searching for.
-
Im trying to complete fixture and results for the 1981 Anglia Junior league whereby i understand 7 teams were involved. K.Lynn, Ipswich, Leicester, Milton Keynes, Rye House, Mildenhall and my home team Peterborough. I've managed to find dates and results for Peterborough's matches against kings Lynn and Rye House, but not the others. Could anyone please help? Also likewise with the 1979 junior league. Would anyone have any possible fixture dates and match results please? I would also be very interested to find out if Peterborough were involved in any other junior leagues between 1979-1990. I know they had a junior team in 1983, but I have an inkling that they may also have had a team in 1985? If anyone can provide any information, then i would be extremely grateful.

Please could anyone provide me with any information with reference to the fixtures for the 1983 Central Junior league. From what i understand Coventry withdrew partway through the 1983 season and Peterborough took over the remaining fixtures. Which fixtures these were is not very clear and i would really appreciate any information to update my records.

2nd leg play off final
pleasureboy60 replied to scaramanga's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Farcical. The real champions are the team from Cambridgeshire. Peterborough Panthers. The sooner they scrap this unfair play off system in speedway then the better for all concerned. You finish top of the league then you are crowned champions. Simple! -
Unfortunately speedway in this country is governed by people who should have seen the warning signs years ago. It could be far too late now to suddenly rectify the problems that we the fans have been concerned about for some considerable time. A big change is needed starting from the top and people who fully understand and appreciate what the sport has to offer should be put in charge. I fear that may now be too late.
