  1. Couldn't agree more Saddlebow some excellent promoting by Plymouth. Each signing announced with enthusiasm and positivity and good explanation from Promoters about what their aims are with the build up of the team. Good luck to them, they are flying the flag for the South West and deserve support. As the saying goes "use it or lose it" and hopefully they will attract good Crowds and keep going.
  2. God does that mean the UK could have been spared the moaning whining whingebag that is Jack Holder...
  3. Somebody mentioned CW Someone else mentioned a veteran Last heard of moved to the South Coast to work Its Carl Wilkinson innit?
  4. I generally agree with your posts and always respect them but I do think this is a bit disingenuous. The NDL has always provided opporunity for riders who enjoy riding, have neither the ability nor in some cases the aspiration to go higher but who are more than capable of competing at a decent level. To think of a few recent examples, Danno Verge a loyal servant to IOW who was never going to be any more than a 5 point NDL rider. Tom Spencer, who I watched riding and struggling on lawnmowers in his early days, who has steadily developed and hit a very decent NDL avergae last season and has got a deserved bash at CL level this year. In this Plymouth team is Kai Ward who I watched a few years ago when he could not do 4 laps without falling off. He's gone to amateur racing, learnt and steadily improved and last year proved he could be a competitive reserve in the NDL. There will always been Brennans, Kemps, Flints etc, the likes of Cairns and Boughen and some other newer riders look well capable of aspiring to a full time careeer in the Sport. However I do agree with your general train of thought. As a Brummies fan I felt the NDL of 2016-2018 was excellent, when Brummies moved up to CL in 2019 and struggled unable to compete i realised that the BSPL attitude was to neuter the NDL by making the better clubs move up. The supposition that it was to support Clubs like Buxton, Stoke, IOW etc blown away by the fact that those Clubs left for varying reasons. There are 2 ways forward really... (1) make the NDL totally amateur and assist the amateur tracks and providers to have a more sustainable footing (2) to remove a lot more of the big earners - cream off possibly the top 16-18 over 30's and to make the CL the equaivalent of what the NDL was up to circa 2019-2020. But of course we go back 20+ years to the Sky TV cash cow that was blown, spaffed up, secreted away don't we?... The legacy that 30-40 riders have to ride PL and CL to generate the 40 + meetings to make Speedway pay and stuff the rest. Too much water has gone beneath too many bridges I fear to rectify the issues now. No disrespect to them but thats why i see the likes of Bomber ; Scott ; Lawson, Masters , Worrall ; and many more riding well in to their late 40's and early 50's. A few classy kids will arrive and join them, a few might by-pass them (like Brennan) to join Lambert and Bewley but the model is utterly BUST I'm sad to say. NORA may be the way ahead for MANY of the current lower tier Championship Clubs but if they don't own their own stadiums and generate as much income from anciliaries like food and drink sales as a result, the future looks very bleak
  5. Haven't seen any??... You would think a BIG SPLASH signing would be announced Christmas Eve??... Obviously it might be more of a small ripple and less of a splash! Wonder it it might be Worrall and Worrall ? Nothing would surprise me... R Worrall and N Morris (dear god) ??... What's Josh Auty and James Shanes availability??..
  6. Would imagine Trigger is a definite Wonder if to boost his track time that Joe Thompson might just do another season, he doesn't need to for development but just testing and track time between CL might make sense (would make sense for Bowtell too but he's not eligible is he?) That would use up a load of points but highest rated top 2 in terms of combined average if so! Not sure who else.. Rhys Naylor? Kai Ward? (Atkins and Andrews have retired now so not available)
  7. Hancock doesn't exactly have a great record as a mentor! He has a great record of getting significant financial benefit from those he has mentored; with very little for the recipient of his knowledge, gained from it. To coin a phrase, no doubt he has grinned all the way to the bank. The Cairns family clearly have the means to give their clearly very talented son the very best chance of success he can have. Sport shows though that in the heat of battle, in that brutal first turn, no amount of coaching, mentoring will help you, it's brutal , its survival of the fittest and hungriest. It will be interesting to see how Mr Cairns develops.
  8. If as many are suggesting Worky move to the more northerly based NDL and someone else moves in the the Trophy or they just leave that as 4 Clubs then YES, I'd expect VJF to ride NDL for Worky and NDLT for Kent.
  9. The 2 Rugby Clubs whose bases might have been worth a look a decade or so ago were Dudley Kingswinford or Stourbridge. Both accessible with services and utilities in place and plenty of land around. Sadly fairly affluent areas where the noise would have been an issue even for a few hours and week. I always thought "The Dell" next to the Athletics Track in Pensnett or strips of land off Level Street adjacent the old Round Oak goods yards would have been another place. Similarly the "shelf" of land by Netherton Cricket Club opposite the Reservoir? I'm sure everyone involved looked at those areas but go absolutely no encouragement from the Council?
  10. VJF signing for Kent though logical due to his roots suggests to me that Workington wont be in the declared "Trophy" league. If Worky have a home match on a Saturday why would VJF consign himself to being in Kent by noon the next day? Suggests that Worky will be in NDL allowing VJF to ride for Worky in the NDL and Kent in the Trophy

  12. Its the glimmers of hope and expectation, which then fade that kills the enthusiasm. One slight glimmer long term (may be 4-5 years) Knighthead who have pumped tens of millions in to the dark side (Birmingham City) to develop 65 acres on the East Side including Wheels Site for a new 65000 seater stadium for 2030 have been announced as main bidders for a second Cricket 100 franchise to run out of Edgbaston. They also have indoor arena plan at Wheels to attract Basketball (Birmingham had very successful Basketball team under Nick Nurse (now NBL) a few decades back playing out of Aston and other locations and they also want to use it for Ice Hockey. A few rumours they are sniffing round the once legendary Moseley Rugby Club - one of the top 4-5 in UK pre professional game. They want all branded "Birmingham" Sports. Tolley and Rogers really need to get their backsides in to some meetings with these guys as no reason surely why an Oval Raceway can't be part of the plans, it's a huge site and getting bigger as they acquire more and more and Council who are strapped for cash are selling off on the cheap with provision Knighthead clear out all the contaminated land - which will cost tens of millions.
  13. Pearson has turned down a few CL Clubs insistent he's riding in Poland where he'll live. A bottom 4 of Fredriksen, Cluff, Bowtell and Thompson ensures they always have 2 strong reserves and decent heat 8 and 14. A solid top 4 compared with several - always top end problems though? I think Barker will be 3rd highest average , he's capable of getting back up to 6.5 you'd think. Problem for him and Bowtell is lack of regular rides. Would one of Bowtell or Thompson slot in to their NDL Team just to get extra track time? Might be a canny move. If MPT is going there allows one other Heat Leader to join him and Barker. Might suit a PL second string whose average fits who is not in Polish U24 (if they ride some home meetings on a Tuesday) or Polish 3rd Div - Saturday nights and no decent flight link to POland without a very long drive (Bristol / Birmingham Airports?) Keep reading Covatti is still crocked, a shame as MPT / Covatti / Barker and that bottom 4 would surprise more than a few outside of Poole / Glasgow.
  14. We might need this team to gve us the enjoyment of a win!
  15. My guess-: Michael P Toft 7.80 A N Other 5.96 to play with?? (6.96) Ben Barker 5.87 Joe Thompson 5.63 Alfie Bowtell 5.07 *A N Other 5.00 / (c/b 4.00) Lasse Fredriksen 4.67 Total 39.86 Hearing something imminent! at Fans Meeting tomorrow perhaps
  16. I wonder if the likes of Seth Norman (is he 15?) , Cooper Rushen , Billy Budd may be included. How about Joe Thompson - lives locally and give him extra meetings? William Cairns at least until he's 16?...extra track time fairly local? Long long shot if his average in CL last time he rode was under 6 -- Ashley Morris - be a great mentor? Monday nights will restrict options a little although I would expect School Holidays may be used - boost for some younger riders and parents and get some local kids in for reduced prices too.
  17. Any news on the Brummies NDL Trophy Team? Back to PL Thorsell would be a decent second string IF he could recapture his Monmore form but not sure wheres he's at now form wise?
  18. Answers please Clive.... When will this be announced and what is the reason??
  19. The failure to secure VJ-F just doesn't add up? He was IN when limit was 38 points He would have FITTED in a 40 point Team We know that Danny boy spat his dummy out at the AGM to the degree some teams voted 40 just to wind him up! Now we get the "throw away line" from his Andrex sponsor and monitor Clive - that "Danny is no longer on the Management Committee" THAT throw away line needs EXPLAINING Clive as it does not appear to have been announce anywhere???... So the question is.. Why no VJ-F Was he pushed out? Did he pull himself out? Why no transparency ??.. Answers please
  20. Well if it's Ablitt it suggests Arnies interpretation of the vvery confused rules is right, if not, the jury is still out. Although I'd expect them to want to announce Ablitt of they are allowed to use him.
  21. Well someone of that sort of ability indeed! But magic and a little bit of coercion that other Clubs don't posess gets them on a 4 point average to fit in their Poole team!
  22. If you say so, and I suspect you know...😉
  23. West has been touting himself around all Promotions in the CL for 18 months. I don't think it's him but someone with compatively better form in Oz over the past few years My hunch is that Poole have collared an Aussie who has not ridden competitively in the UK before; who was very close to signing for another Team in the CL; and who Poole unlike the other Team involved have successfully argued a case for to be on a 4 point average and not a 5 point average based on pulling strings with the Management Committee, based on some form elsewhere in Europe. It's not a name I've seen mentioned anywhere so I'll keep stum on it for now but it'll all make sense when it happens!
  24. Now confirmed...Jeppesen (who to be fair Saddlebow had spot on) I have a hunch he'll double up with a CL Club too and thy may have been waiting for Brummies to announce. Might not have to wait 2 weeks for confirmation on that one though!
