  1. Belle Vue has lower capacity than Ipswich which has been significantly upgraded by Spedeworth in recent years. Ipswich is in a low rate Covid area. Manchester is focal point for a significant regional lockdown, that's only now being slightly eased in some parts but increased in others in the general area. The meeting is in approx 4 weeks time. The decision has nothing to do with Speedway, tracks or favouritism etc. It's based on Covid 19 and common sense. It seems to me to be a rare bit of lateral thinking. The most suitable venue in the safest area at this moment in time. More important to get the meeting on, get Europsort some coverage and some domestic top class Speedway. Hopefully Belle Vue will be ready in 8 weeks time for SON.
  2. There is a degree of "Rugby League" in Poland. Parts of the Country it is a religion and by far the biggest Sport. Other parts it is not popular at all. It is known by most Poles though
  3. Destined for 3rd place I think. Danes strong too. I always wonder why Dan Gilkes gets overlooked. Got a lot of time for Leon Flint since his spell at Brummies, but he has seemed right off the pace in U21 and U19 individuals. I'd have taken Gilkes over Flint on a Danish type track
  4. Read somewhere but can't find now that there was some kind of U21 Training at Somerset today with a lot of likely candidates invited. Assume the Final is being held at a similar track. Poles and Danes must be favourites. Are Bewley and Brennan going to be fit enough?
  5. Dog track twitter feed says trials resume tomorrow after sickness and a staff bereavement. Shows schedule for trials Friday 21st August
  6. Anyone who thinks Adam Ellis has peaked needs a medical check! Constant and consistent improver, already better rider than Worralls, Cook has great ability but seems to have vanished off media, Charles Wright probably deserved spot but other than that Adam surely the next in line. A few names in there would struggle to be 2nd string in Championship - indeed Broc Nichol has struggled to be 2nd string in CL 5.16 average!!! (identical to Simon Lambert and Kyle Newman - they must be aggrieved)
  7. Not being run on that basis as matches are at amateur (ndl or below) level. Pilot will be at professional PL/CL level. Only track authorised by BSPL - whose Chairman is????
  8. One big issue not mentioned. Lambert has carried a poor team. Holder is shielded in a far better team. Basing comments on Polish League matches far less relevant than SEC in terms of pressure of riding as an individual. Jack Holder is a hot and cold gater. Robert Lambert is an all round racer. No doubt in my mind that with fair luck Lambert will be a far better global rider than Holder.
  9. Well done Kemp, great effort from Palin, good experience for Flint and Edwards. Not easy going there cold, no racing against mostly track specialists.
  10. Lucky if they get a tyre. Most rely on sponsors and parents. Bit strange only track bspl have authorised for crowds is Scunny?
  11. Yet again complete and utterly inaccurate generalisation. Go ready what Barry Bishop has said. Go to places like I did last season like Swindon, Birmingham, Eastbourne, Redcar, Somerset. There are others i'm sure Lots of kids, lots of things organised for kids, lots of new faces and families being welcomed. The old timers who are in denial are the ones perversely most likely to moan about the kids. A new family appeared next to me at PB last summer, well behaved and friendly and excited, some die-hards moaned as they had to move a few feet from the "place I've stood for years". It was embarrassing and undoes what some Promoters are actually doing.
  12. It's a credit to those who built it. However, go to a big meeting like the CL Pairs, stand on the grass banking, in the dark like a sardine, with barely any extra toilet or catering facilities and it's horrific. It's quite frightening on that grass when it gets damp and little or no public lighting. It's great for their normal crowds up to high hundreds, even then lack of toilets and catering can be an issue. Not suitable for big Events without massive increase in portaloos and catering.
  13. According to the Speedway Star the week after PL + CL were cancelled for the season very few committed to actually trying to run something if possible Belle Vue, Kings Lynn, Ipswich; Berwick; Eastbourne ; Leicester; Redcar, Scunthorpe, Mildenhall; Plymouth indicated they would not rule out Meetings and of those, Belle Vue; Kings Lynn; Eastbourne; Leicester; Scunthorpe, Plymouth seemed most keen.
  14. What kind of crowd is expected / there. Be good if the initiative paid off with a few hundred there at least.
  15. The 80's were that last peak and that peak was filled with mostly Americans who were flamboyant and sold the sport and the Danes who were marketable and professional. By the late 80's the rot set in and despite a few positive times that feel-good factor has never returned. The GP formula moved the power outside of the UK and many will still yearn for the old WC format, starting in Australasia early in the calendar year, rounds in dozens of countries culminating in a final in UK, Sweden or Poland. Sky came along, threw previously unseen sums at a cabal of around 10-12 Promoters and they did the drinking equivalent of peeing it up the wall. Paying over inflated sums to average riders from various parts of the Globe, NOTHING was put back in to the grass roots of the sport. The recent move to take Team GB and GB Academy away from the clutches of the BSPA, staffed as it is by a majority who to this day want to stuff their teams with foreign riders at every opportunity, is a positive first step. Woffinden and Lambert now lead the fight back, we can but hope that Ellis and Bewley can join them and then hope that the likes of Brennan, Flint;Rowe and Kemp can step up and attain those levels, behind them the likes of Palin, Edwards, Thompson twins etc. There is a glimmer on the horizon but still the nagging doubt that the idiots at the top table will do everything they can to look after the interests of their own small circle before they look outside the window and see the bigger wider picture. The Sport is ruled by the equivalent of the flat earth society, in complete denial of the real speedway world. Painter, Blackwell, Sinderson, Cotton, Adrian Smith (speedway fans but also successful businessmen prepared to put their hands in their pocket for the sport and not their own ego;s).....let them take over the Sport, run it with independent governance and line promoters in to them, not Godfrey and his cohorts.
  16. There are some new bright thinkers out there who have appeared in the past 3-5 years. Some have Business backgrounds. The structure and system though dictates that the "top table" is a combination of "dead mans shoes and cronyism". Until that is blown away the bright thinkers will only impact locally. Adrian Smith, perhaps the brightest of them all has hit the nail on the head. The Sport needs independent governance. Look at what's being achieved by Team GB and GB Academy since it was allowed to be run independently.
  17. This is the most frightening bit coming from an elected politician Any Council has to optimise it's income and mitigate potential losses within its declared plan. It's prime real estate as everyone says and knows. It may well be best option for BCP therefore to develop the Site and to find an alternative site within the Borough for Football and Speedway. That would be a tumultuous and significant upheaval for Speedway. I wish everyone at Poole well. “If a third party lodged an application to redevelop the site, planning officers would assess it by reference to the current Poole Local Plan, which provides for ‘approximately 430 homes, a modern stadium facility capable of accommodating a variety of sports/events, including exploring the opportunity for providing a home for Poole Town Football Club and speedway, and a mix of other uses that could include offices and other supporting commercial uses.’ “As freeholder, the Council would have to approve any such redevelopment.’’
  18. Would be ideal model for Poole to follow. Make the stadium a community hub. Poole stadium is perfectly placed to do that.
  19. Anyone who has been to Isle of Wight Speedway will laugh with derision at that ridiculous statement.
  20. Not sure what responsibility BSPL can have for a classic Landlord and Tenant issue?? By all means blame the BSPL for problems in their area of responsibility but this is strictly linked to a Stadium, The Council and the Landlords and Tenants and sub tenants
  21. every sane Speedway supporter will hope Poole do come to tapes in 2021. Dogs and the betting levy will have been a huge proportion of the overall stadium income. If Gaming International do relinquish or are removed as Tenants whoever takes over will have a huge black hole to fill in terms of income. The Council cannot just take on a black hole of debt. There would need to be massive cost cuts and savings or a viable plan to optimise the income of the stadium. Covenants mean nothing other than the old parchments they are written on. Fingers crossed as it's a venue that the Sport simply can't afford to lose. Matt Ford of any time up to a few years ago would have been the ideal bloke to champion this, have to ask, is his heart really in it any more. Poole have also sadly lost a couple of outstanding backroom staff in the recent past and their passing will be ever more cruelly felt at this difficult time. I wish them all the very best of luck.
  22. Birmingham Wheels and Hednesford stage lot of Bangers..you get 50 to 70 drivers, many bring family, friends , backers, so 70 drivers each bring 30 to watch, then add similar for rods and you suddenly got 3 or 4000 maybe 4 or 5 times a year at local tracks. It's a family and friends day out that's it's unique pull
  23. Leon rode very well in his NL debut season for Brummies in 2018. Brennan impressed me very much at PB last year before his injury. Well done both lads. I understand Kyle Bickley was offered the slot but turned it down as he hadn't had any racing. That's not the attitude anyone wants to see. Hopefully Leon and Tom will be in U21 Team for Team Champs and not stay at home Bickley.
  24. I'll make a prediction now. Half the current Championship will be looking very closely at NDL for next season if there is no guarantee 2021 starts on time. I would think likes of Berwick, Birmingham, Eastbourne; Kent; Newcastle and Redcar might consider NDL as better than nothing at all in those circumstances. Sit out a year in 2021 in NDL to keep their ships afloat. NDL could save many Clubs
