Couldn’t have said it any better. We’re in a position that we are because there doesn’t seem to be a massive amount of thought behind the teams we put together. In terms of riders exceeding their average, the comets very rarely seem to find anyone who can do so. Thomson, Loftus, Klindt, Wood, Hagon, Flint, McDiarmid were all riders at the start of the season I would’ve loved comets to sign, as they have clear potential to exceed their average. As proven. Regarding Batchelor, The ‘new engine’ has been an issue for a while as he hasn’t been buying any new equipment allegedly. That can’t be helping performances. The mentality at Workington is now to basically expect to get beat at home as it is a ‘fair track for all riders’. Sod that, you set a track up so it suits your team and make it a struggle for the opposition. Workington 1-7 this year has been nothing short of a disaster. Losing Cook hasn’t helped and as mentioned NHJ is a failed experiment. Batchelor is finished. Tate I think has been great at times but still not consistent enough. Jonas has been a breath of fresh air, loved having him in the team. Vinnie has a limit and that’s a 4 point average. Couldn’t really understand why they had him back on something close to that. Max has done well picking up points and if he had been there start of the season (Unlucky to just miss out on average), Workington may have found themselves sitting in a more promising position. There is so much to be sorted for next year including a stronger team that looks like it has been put together by a strategy and a vision, rather than picking convenience. I for one hope that starts with Nicolai Klindt. Without knowing what the constraints were with team building, he should’ve been nailed on for this season anyhow! Hoping that Workington Comets speedway are around next year, and that the team they construct is a lot more competitive than this current one.

Not absolutely sure. You may be correct. Anyone have any guesses for who the rider Workington are bringing in? Troy Batchelor said in an interview yesterday that there’s going to be changes.

Looking at the current averages, Wright wouldn’t be able to fit into the team. That’s as of right now though so not too sure how Redcar average will be when he’s back. I’d assume they’ll drop next month.

I suspect you’re correct with that last line. 2 pointer or low 2 average with 5.00 from the continent is my best guess. I suspected it may be Max Perry but not sure he would fit in with the numbers. Anyone have any guesses on the potential second string?

Going to go with Max Perry. Think Cookie n Perry are tied down with 1 left to sort out.

I’m pretty sure that Workington have their team sorted or almost sorted for 2026. The fact that Jacob Hook announced he won’t be back shows exactly that. That could mean one of two things. 1. The team is fully complete and it doesn’t include Jacob 2. The team has 2 riders still to sign, and it isn’t possible for Jacob to be one of them as his average is too high. For this to be the case, the 5th rider to have signed must be between an average of 7.68 and 8. Can only think of Drew Kemp and Craig Cook who fit that criteria. If there was still a chance mathematically that Jacob could come back, they wouldn’t give him a definitive answer like they have done. Interesting.

I thought the exact same. Can’t really think of anyone above Batch average and below 8 who I could imagine at Workington. Drew Kemp, Zach Cook, Villads Nagel are the only 3 riders who fit that category from last season. Norick Blodorn😂?

Yes, that’s unfortunately the way speedway works sometimes. Hooky was excellent last year but when you do well in the sport, occasionally it can go against you. The promotion obviously believe there’s more room for improvement with the riders they’ve brought back than there is in Jacob (not entirely sure about that) Tate should definitely improve back to 2024 levels and hopefully last year was a learning curve for Vinnie and he can kick on, he’s never short on effort. Certainly makes things interesting for Workington, should see some new faces. Have to feel big time for Jacob, hopefully he gets a place next year.

You make some excellent points and I definitely think Batch is valuable on a 7.10 average. I personally don’t believe batch will be back but we don’t know yet. Kye Thomson is definitely one to consider and enjoys Workington. As for Grahn, he’s fantastic at Workington and can become a top, top rider round there. His away form is average but with a seasons experience in the bag that may lead to an improvement this year. Tate obviously has a lot of talent but it’s so hit and miss with him, that may be down to mechanical issues (I don’t know) Really hope he gets back to the form of that first season because he was sensational.

Looks a pretty mediocre team to me.Next seasons team in an ideal world should be based off riders with experience and understanding of away tracks, something that has lacked in previous 2 seasons. The newcomer is a constant issue, having that lack of understanding of Berwick, Scunny, Edinburgh, Plymouth(the more unique tracks) I think Workington would benefit from having a Kyle Howarth sort of rider who gives you a solid performance at every track. New riders will get used to the GT Tyres Arena fairly easy and would perform to a level that Hook, Zischke and Etheridge are at IMO. It may be time for change at Workington, would love to see Klindt and Grahn in there in 2026.
