    Charlie Monk

Charlie rode for Glasgow 1964-67,69-72.He rode for Sheffield in 1968 after asking and getting a transfer. He went on to ride for Halifax,Barrow and finally Edinburgh.

    Bobby Duncan

I'm sure Bobby Duncan was Scottish!!!
  3. He was the first ever Glasgow captain in 1946!!!
  4. Try posting on this site:http://users.boardnation.com/~easy_tiger/index.php as you will probably get one or two of our older supporters!!!
  5. I think Ivan Blacka was born in Southampton but did have links to the USA(parents possibly?).That Test match in 1981 will always be remebered for Blacka tapping Steve Lawson on the arm while they were racing to let him know who was with him!!!
  6. 1500 fans!!! If Glasgow had that, we'd be looking to run EL never mind PL!!!!!We rarely top 800 adults!!!
  7. Possibly his continental bookings meant he wasnt available to tour?
  8. Crump was unlucky,he didn't touch Andersen and I thought he was left with no room in the Hancock/Rickardsson race(should've been all four back).Norris was victim of a "professional foul" by TR as I think he would've stayed on if he had to!!!
  9. Yes, I think that's right, which makes him the longest serving team captain so far. Well equal with Super Steve!!!

    Dream Teams

Quite a few of the Scots rode down under for England!!! The 2 MACs,I believe Tommy Miller in the 50s and I'm sure George Hunter rode at one point as well. Scotland had a great World pedigree at one point.McKinlay was a multi World Finalist ,indeed if he hadn't fallen off one year he would've been in a run-off for the title! Jimmy Mac was a reserve in the 1972 final at Wembley(and rode),while Scotland were regulars in the World Pairs Final. I could've added others such as Brian Collins, the McKinnas,Colin Caffrey,Harry MacLean,Benny Rourke,James Grieves,Kevin Little,Ross Brady, etc.Yes even Charlie Monk who qualified for Scotland on parentage. With the exception of Martin McKinna,MacLean,Caffrey and Rourke, every one of the above were regulars at one time in the top league. I believe Scotland will come again and maybe the football team with it!!!

    Second Halvers

Who could forget Jon Jon White,"The Black Knight"?,Glasgow also had a second halfer called Kelvin Jelaca in 1986 who used to scrape the boards at Craighead Pk.

    Who was it?

Guglielmi rode in the Scottish Junior League in 1977 under the name Williams, didn't ride for Coatbridge(Glasgow) that I can remember. Mitch Shirra rode in 1974 at Coatbridge and was banned when it was discovered he was underage,of course he still was in 1975!!! Another Tiger was Robbie McGregor who rode at the start of the 1980 season underage, the same year I'm sure, NEIL Evitts started illegally!!
  14. Cant be often that the away team has two non scorers and the home team none and it's an away win!!!!!! Some interesting Glasgow names there.Mick McKeon and Merv Janke would both ride for Halifax a few years later.Graham Dawson was badly injured at Barrow just a short time after this meeting, while Nicky Hollingworth(note spelling!) was the younger brother of the still riding Rob!!! Also Chris Julian who rode for Glasgow in 1964!!!!
  15. Glasgow actually were the first team to lead the league when the first official table came out, after early away points at Halifax(draw),Belle Vue(win) and Edinburgh(win). Injuries took their toll and we lost a number of home matches, including the KOC semi-final to West Ham.
  16. Thomas was superb around both Blantyre tracks, didn't do so well around Shawfield.
  17. Monarchs rode there until 1967 before moving to Coatbridge for two years. The Games were held in 1970(and 1986)
  18. If it was 1965 , Long Eaton must've been racing Glasgow, as Scott rode for them that year.
  19. Glasgow: 1.Steve Lawson 2. Ken McKinlay 3. Charlie Monk 4. Tommy Miller 5. Jim McMillan 6. Bobby Beaton 7. Brian Collins
  20. Kjell Gimre,Jon Jon White,Gary Guglielmi(AKA Gary Williams,I think!!!),Phil Disney,Junior Bainbridge,Bat Byrnes,Kelvin Jelaca and Miles Evans all have had Glasgow connections at one time.
  21. 1992 Division 2 winners:Peterborough KOC:Peterborough 1993 Division 2 winners:Glasgow KOC:Glasgow 1994 Division 2 winners:Glasgow KOC:Glasgow 1995 Premier League(leagues amalgamated) winners:Eastbourne 1996 Premier League:Wolverhampton 1997:Premier League(2nd Division):Reading 1998:Premier League:Peterborough 1999:Premier League:Sheffield 2000:Premier League:Exeter 2001:Premier League:Newcastle 2002:Premier League:Sheffield 2003:Premier League:Edinburgh I hope I've remembered them correctly!!!!
  22. Strange we were told it did every week in 1996!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. I would add Andy Galvin as well,he was worth watching at Shawfield cause everybody hated him!! Others who fall into that category were Mick "dodgy teabag" Poole,Jamie "God" Luckhurst and Martin Goodwin. Tigers worth watching were Merv Janke, the McKinnas at Blantyre 1 and Shane Bowes.
  24. Certainly Les Collins did both types of tacticals last season at Berwick. I wonder if people also realise that the reserves MUST take a minimum of 4 rides next season(as reported in Glasgow Evening Times). So quite where you would fit a golden tactical sub in, is anyones guess!!! As I mentioned somewhere else, you will need 3 good heat leaders and a couple of good reserves, you won't need second strings!!!
  25. Having thought about it for a few days,I still don't like it!!! The promoters wanted to save money so this is their way of doing it.Why pay your top man extra money to replace a reserve when all you do is double his points in one heat at no extra cost!! Their official reason seems to be that they would have to change the race format, something that hasn't bothered them before. What was wrong with just increasing T/S after being 8 points down(I know they tried this before and was equally unpopular but...)? It will be interesting to see why they voted for it.
