  6. Weymouth speedway staged the third round of the Great British Under 15s Championship last weekend which saw eleven year Robert Lambert land the spoils in the 250cc class and fifteen year old Ashley Morris was victorious in the 500cc class. There was some very lively action from the future stars of British speedway and several race times were on par with the National League times. Phil Bartlett, Wildcats promoter said “All the lads rode their hearts out and should all be very proud of themselves. There was some cracking racing and all the riders conducted themselves admirably and were a credit to themselves and British speedway. It was nice to see local lad Daniel I’Anson who did very well coming third in the 500cc Class.” This Friday the Bournemouth Buccaneers visit the Wessex Bus Raceway for the first leg of the second round of the Knock-Out Cup. After the Wildcats disappointing display at Wimborne Road last month, the Wildcats will hope to avenge their twenty point defeat and put themselves in a strong position for the second leg. Team Manager, Jem Dicken said, “This is going to be one of the meetings of the season with a big crowd expected. Bournemouth are one of the favorites for most of the National League competitions along with ourselves. However, I am confident that we have enough strength to build up a big enough lead to take to their place next month.” Dicken added “The league match at Bournemouth was a one off for us, you can cope with one, maybe two riders having problems, but we had six of the team really struggling. Only Lee Smart rode anywhere near his potential, but take nothing away from the Buccaneers they did their job and did it well.” The meeting sees several old faces return to the Wessex Bus Raceway. Jay Herne, Kyle Newman and Danny Warwick have all donned the Wildcats race jacket in the past so will be looking to use their knowledge of the circuit to their advantage. 7. The Weymouth Doonan Wildcats suffered a total washout last weekend with both their home meetings against Plymouth , and the away trip to Mildenhall falling foul of the great British weather. After basking in virtual wall to wall sunshine for over a week, the heavens decided to open around an hour before the Wildcats were due to take to the track against local rivals the Plymouth Devils on Saturday night at the Wessex Bus Raceway. The following day saw a bright and breezy morning in Weymouth with the previous nights storm clouds now on their way towards Suffolk resulting in the postponement of the meeting against the Fen Tigers. The restaging date for the meeting against the Plymouth Devils will be Saturday 18th July with the meeting at Mildenhall yet to be arranged. This Saturday sees the third round of the Great British Under 15s Championship at the Wessex Bus Race Way (7.15pm start) when the stars of the future take to track in what promises to be an entertaining meeting. Several of the riders have been getting in some pre-season practice over the winter months at the WessexBus Raceway training schools, with some showing great improvement under the guidance of some of the sports top names. One to watch could be eleven-year-old Robert Lambert. He hails from Norfolk and took the opportunity for a second-half spin a couple of weeks ago at the Wessex Bus Race Way . Robert was very impressive recording times not far off those from the previous National League meeting. The 500cc Class is currently led by Josh Dingle who has recently been signed by the Plymouth Devils, and will surely be out to show that he deservers a place in the Devils 1-7. Also taking to the track is Local youngster Daniel I’Anson who is in his first full season of speedway, having spent the winter practicing at the Weymouth Training Schools. The 250cc's have the first round winner, Brandon Freemantle and the afore mentioned Robert Lambert who both look to have a great future in the sport.. Phil Bartlett, Wildcats Promoter said “This meeting looks set to be possibly one of the most competitive under 15s meetings we have seen at Weymouth. Young Robert Lambert took a spin here a couple of weeks ago after our League meeting and received a round of applause from the supporters who had stayed to watch the action, not something that happens too often when a rider is just having a couple of practice laps!” Wildcats team manager Jem Dicken ,commented that he had been watching the progress of Josh Dingle, who has looked very impressive recently, with next seasons team in mind. But Plymouth seem to have beat us to him. He was in fine form at the Moonfleet MCC Open Grass Track where he looked very impressive and I am sure he will be hoping to cement his place in the Devils team with a good performance here.” Line Ups – 250 CC Class 1 Adam Portwood 2 Jack Cornes 3 Brandon Freemantle 5 Robert Lambert 7 Steven Archer 9 Daniel Sibson 11 Jack Jones 13 Nathan Stoneman 15 Reece Downes 500 CC Class 4 Josh Dingle 6 Daryl Ritchings 8 Ashley Morris 10 Daniel I'Anson 13 Camerson Hoskins 16 Adam Kirby 17 Kyle Howarth 19 Tom Stokes 20 Jack Butler Official Press Release by Julie Martin Weymouth Wildcats Press Officer Tel 07967221475 Wildcats Weymouth Limited www.wildcatsweymouth.co.uk Main Team Sponsor - Doonans Sand and Gravel Supported by Wessex Bus
  8. What a shame it doesn't seem to be organised any better than previous years Personally I would have been phoning round eligible riders as soon as the dates were confirmed. Always one of my favourite meetings at Weymouth I just hope we have enough riders to make it competitive! If some of the lads who have been at our training schools are anything to go by there should be some fantastic racing as they were really getting to grips with the circuit, fingers crossed someone in charge pulls their finger out pdq. Jules
  9. This months training school at the Wessex Bus Raceway, Weymouth will be held on Saturday 28th February. The training school will be conducted by Coventry Bees star and England International, Edward Kennett, and follows on from the hugely successful sessions held at Weymouth Speedway under the expert guidance of Davey Watt, Phil Morris and Adam Shields. The morning classroom session commences at 10am with tuition from speedway mechanic, Del Rowe, who last year worked for Poole's Freddie Eriksson. This year he’s working with Canadian International, Kyle Leguelt, who is plying his trade with the Pirates this season. The lesson will demonstrate the basics of bike maintenance and preparation. Del will be on hand throughout the day for any further advice or questions. Numbers for the training school will be strictly limited and allocated on a first come first served basis, so anyone wishing to attend or requiring any further information should contact Jem Dicken on 07775 645 655. 12. On Saturday November 22nd Weymouth Speedway hold the first of their renowned winter training schools at the Wessex Stadium. There will be five training schools open to all up and coming trainee riders. The training school will consist of a morning of class room based instruction on bike set-up and maintenance and then this will be followed with an afternoon of track time instruction. The first training school will be conducted by Eastbourne Eagles star and England International Edward Kennett. Phil Bartlett Wildcats Chairman said, “We are delighted to be able to hold training schools this winter as youth development is very important to the club. We are aiming to have five training schools all held with experienced riders there to pass on valuable experience to the youngsters. Another aim of the schools is to provide those that are new to the sport the opportunity to learn about bike set-ups and maintenance. On the whole it’s Dad or Granddad that doubles up as mechanic, team manager and driver and unless they have previous experience of speedway its often a matter of learning by trial and error, something which can be costly both on and off the track.” Numbers for the training schools will be strictly limited and allocated on a first come first served basis, so anyone wishing to attend should immediately contact Jem Dicken on 07775 645 655. 13. I thought that this was one of best meetings I have seen at Weymouth all season. I would rather see one of these meetings than some of the challege matches that we have had to put on this season due to the lack of teams. Its a shame there aren't more of these meetings the lads all did very well with some great racing. Its also a shame that the powers that be can't find some spare cash to put towards some of the expenses for these youngsters even if its just a bit of travel I am sure it would be appreciated. I look forward to seeing some of the lads at our training schools which will be running this season. Jules

  15. The Weymouth Doonan Wildcats proved to be tough opposition for Premier League side - Wightlink Islanders on Saturday at Radipole Lane, only finally conceding defeat in a last heat decider. The Islanders were forced to use the black and white helmet cover in heat 10, which was won in fine style by Cory ‘Concrete for Breakfast’ Gathercole, who made an impressive return from injury and remained unbeaten by an opponent on the night. Both Jason Bunyan and Cory Gathercole soon got to grips with the contours of the tight Weymouth circuit and showed that they did indeed come from a different league. Heat 13 saw Jason smash the track record and slice almost a second off the time set by Lewis Bridger to record a lightning time of 51.3 seconds. However, the Doonan Wildcats weren’t to be outdone and the capable reserve pairing of Kyle Newman and Brendan Johnson put on a sterling performance. In an enthralling heat 7 Johnson refused to be intimidated by a determined Richard Sweetman in a race that saw the awesome Aussie closely pursue the 16-year-old reserve for four thrilling laps. Johnson held his line along with his nerve to earn a well deserved point much to the delight of the home crowd. Kyle Newman also impressed with a breathtaking blast around the boards to pass Andrew Bargh going on to top score for the home side. The Wildcats went into heat 15 one point ahead, but a predictable Islanders 5-1 courtesy of Bunyan and Gathercole sealed victory for the visitors. Weymouth Chairman, Phil Bartlett, was delighted with the Wildcats performance, “I was really pound of the lads and they certainly put up one hell of a fight. I am very grateful for the Isle of Wight promotion for stepping in at such short notice to provide us with a meeting that turned out to be one of the best of the season so far. Which is saying something, given how many thrillers have already been served up this season so far already!” Last Sunday’s league fixture against the Buxton Hitmen fell foul to the atrocious British weather. The Buxton promotion thankfully took the decision to call off the meeting early on Sunday morning saving the Wildcats team the long trek to Derbyshire and will now be run this Sunday 14th September. In a very busy weekend the Doonan’s Wildcats face three meetings in as many days visiting Boston on Friday, Redcar on Saturday and Buxton on Sunday. Wildcats Team Manager Jem Dicken is confident that the Wildcats can pick up six points on their travels which would give them an unassailable lead at the top of the Conference League. This Saturday’s action at the Wessex Stadium will see many possible future stars of the sport take to the track in the third round of the British Under 15 Championships. The meeting will be divided into two classes - 500 cc and 250 cc and will include the largest turnout this season with 21 riders competing. The meeting starts at 7.15pm and will feature 22 heats of racing. 500 cc 1 Ashley Morris 2 Scott Gibbons 3 John Resch 4 James Sarjeant 5 Chris Bint 6 Joe Jacobs 7 Cameron Hoskins 8 Scott Day 9 Jason Garrity 10 Jack Butler 11 Marc Owen 250 cc 11 Marc Owen 12 Connor Dwyer 13 Nathan Stoneman 14 Daniel I'anson 15 Lloyd Barrett 16 Daniel Sibson 17 Rhys Naylor 18 Tyler Govier 19 Ben Morley 20 Jack Cornes 21 Matthew Allitt Official Press Release by Julie Martin Weymouth Wildcats Press Officer Tel 07967221475 Clubcall Hotline : 09068 664663 For All The Latest Wildcats News & Results Weymouth Wildcats Limited www.wildcatsweymouth.co.uk Main Team Sponsor - Doonans Sand and Gravel
  16. Not sure where George is but when I watched them in 2005 there was a Lewis Bridger and a Joshua Auty there, they haven't come to much have they? Hope the lads enjoyed their day and look forward to seeing them in the CL soon. Jules
  17. Good Luck Brendan, and to all the lads and lass hope for a safe and entertaining meeting, would have liked to come to this one. Lets hope there is a few more fixtures for the under 15s next season as although I tend to watch these metings through my fingers its always exciting and they often improve with each heat. Jules
  18. I am sure I have seen it somewhere but does anyone have the remaing fixtures for the under 15s? Jules
  19. I think its more of a tounge in cheek than a criticism Christophers Dad although I think the 7 falls by the hen party maybe an underestimate. I would however like to see DBS on a speedway bike maybe we could have a Back Straight gang vs the hen night race during the interval I am sure people would pay to see that! I too am looking forward to this one although I do tend to watch it through the gaps in my fingers as I do worry about the young ones more than the oldies. I hope for a action packed meeting with no disasters and not too much of a hangover on Sunday. Good luck to all involved and may the best boy or girl win. Jules
  20. Thought I would add this to the topic: Weymouth Wildcats Press Release The Doonans Wildcats sensational victory over the Buxton Hitmen last week, has put them in good stead for this Fridays clash with south coast rivals – the Plymouth Devils. The Wildcats travel to the St Boniface Arena for a meeting that is a must win contest for both teams. With a place in the play-offs hanging in the balance there’s no room for error and the Wildcats narrow four point victory in the first leg, leaves the bonus point up for grabs but vulnerable. Phil Bartlett, Wildcats Chairman is confident of an away win in this highly charged local derby: “The Devils have lost their last two meetings and, after our awesome performance last week, confidence runs high in the Wildcats camp. We have a strong team to take to Plymouth and I am confident we can turn them over on their own shale.” Weymouth’s home meeting this week switches to Saturday when they host the first round of the 2007 British Under 15’s Championships and so giving supporters the chance to see the stars of tomorrow. Always a highly competitive and exciting affair, fans are guaranteed thrills and spills aplenty. Amongst the line-up is talented local lad, Poole based Brendan Johnson, who goes into the meeting as one of the pre-meeting favourites. Ex-Wildcat Gordon Meakins progeny - Scott Meakins will be hoping to follow in his fathers footsteps, and Dad is sure to be on hand with help and advice on the Wessex Stadium circuit. Weymouth Wildcats in conjunction with media partners – The Dorset Echo - are offering reduced admission for this fixture with money-off vouchers inside this weeks editions of the daily newspaper. The Wildcats hit the road again on Sunday when they head to Kent where they will come face to face with the Sittingbourne Crusaders at their Old Gun Site. Wildcats away team manager Jem Dicken said, “With a thirty five point lead from the first leg we are confident of returning with all three points. However, a spirited one point victory over the play-off chasing Oxford Cheetahs earlier this month, shows that nothing can be taken for granted in Kent. Danny Warwick and hotshot Jerran Hart are both a force to be reckoned with and I would imagine that the Cheetahs were also confident of a comprehensive victory beforehand!” Saturdays Under 15s meeting starts at 7.15pm, gates open at 6.00pm Plymouth v Weymouth Line-ups Friday 31st August 1.S Stevens R/R 2.N Glanz 3.T Brown 4.R Smith 5.J Westacott 6.T Webster 7.B Hopwood Weymouth 1.L Smart 2.N Irwin 3.J Herne 4.K Mason 5.D Giffard 6.S Hurst 7.T Day British Under 15s Line up Saturday 1st September 1 Danny STONEMAN 2 John RESCH 3 Shane HAZELDEN 4 Richard FRANKLIN 5 Scott MEAKINS 6 Daniel GREENWOOD 7 Brendan JOHNSON 8 James SARJEANT 9 Kye NORTON 10 Jack BUTLER 11 12 13 Reserve 14 Reserve Qualifying Race R Montana JOWETT B Michael BOVIS G Chris BINT Y Winner goes to number 11, second to number 12, third to number 13, fourth to number 14 Sittingbourne v Wildcats Sunday 2nd September Weymouth 1 Lee Smart 2 Nathan Irwin 3 Jay Herne 4r/r 5 Karl Mason 6Sam Hurst 7 Terry Day 8 Kyle Newman Official Press Release by Julie Martin Weymouth Wildcats Press Officer Tel 07791998656 Clubcall Hotline : 09068 664663 For All The Latest Wildcats News & Results Weymouth Wildcats Limited www.wildcatsweymouth.co.uk
