Speedway - Cardiff Pubs For Monday 30th Sep
SimonB replied to SimonB's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Cheers will check it out earlier in the day to see if they can manage one TV for me! -
I am in Cardiff on Monday and was just wondering if anyone knew any pubs that would be showing the speedway? I know its up against premier league football but just hoping for one place!
-
Real shame that I have to miss this one as I was looking forward to the fixture, ah well sometimes work does get in the way!

Mildenhall Vs Coventry Sunday 28 April
SimonB replied to WembleyLion's topic in National League Speedway
I enjoyed the meeting and it was good to catch up with friends. The racing improved as the meeting went on, I thought initially some of the riders struggled with the grip on the track but overall a very good meeting. The storm lads did very well and I was hoping that they were going to hold on to at least a point. As pointed out above it might have been closer had Jacobs been able to ride. -
The problem for promoters with this is that cutting prices in half means that you would need to double your attendance to make the same amount of income. And that just wouldn't happen. Is it overpriced as compared to the alternative forms of entertainment? I pay £20 on average to watch Leeds United at Elland Road, £15 to watch as many films as possible every month and £10 to £15 to watch university theatre in Cambridge or £17 to watch Elite League Speedway. Apart from when I go to Peterborough (which is about 200 yards away) the cost of running the car is generally more that the cost of the entrance ticket. To me the issue is costs primarily the riders wages, so you have to do something to bring these down if ever you are going to bring admission prices down.

Mildenhall V Dudley - National Shield 1st Leg - Sunday 7th April

I fully agree with your points and yes things like starting gates in particular should be reliable. I wasn't aware until Halifax pointed it out above that similar problems has happened previously. Still it can be very difficult to achieve reliability when you only have access to your stadium once a fortnight and can only afford to use volunteers. Difficult to justify the lack of communication though. Not sure what the answer is for the sport, I have been following it for nearly 40 years now and I have always seen these delays and difficulties. The hardcore of the support seems to accept the issues and keep attending but attracting and keeping new paying customers (or even attracting back those lost to the sport) that is the tricky part! -
Mildenhall V Dudley - National Shield 1st Leg - Sunday 7th April

Although I totally agree that the presentation of a speedway meeting needs improvement and the greatest effort must be made to ensure that each meeting starts on time, finishes within a reasonable amount of time and is presented by someone who is clearly spoken and adds enjoyment to the event sometimes it can be totally beyond your control. As examples - All lighting is tested before the meeting and then a fuse blows just as you intend to start the first race Ambulances called to an emergency just before they are due to arrive at the stadium Tapes working perfectly well for three races then decide to fail In the above cases there is an agreed work round for number 1 using flags but clearly you would rather get the lights to work, not a great deal you can do about number 2 unless you always book additional ambulances which isn't financially viable and for number 2 you can use a manual system but again it is better to try and get the tapes repaired or replaced. Of course promoters must do everything they can to ensure the meeting is timely, entertaining and send everyone home happy, unfortunately though that is not always possible. -
I am also surprised that Taylor has not got a place, although I am sure he will shortly after the season starts as team places become available. If he is the UK that is of course

The meeting last year was appalling, surely this year cant be even poorer, can it???

Who is Olive then?

With me it was always the other way around lol thank god for the day job! Cynically - its not going to make much money in the future and needs to take some money out while he has the chance? Optimistically - wants to involve fans in decision making, making them feel really part of the club and increase loyal support? No idea really (still never stopped me posting before) was there not a press release explaining the reasoning?
-
Your cynical view point is correct, if that is indeed what transpires! In terms of using the submitted accounts information to come up with a valuation personally I would not recommend it for smaller companies. As an example the owner may decide to pay themselves a salary, large expenses etc. to reduce the profitability (or create a loss) and for small companies that information does not have to be made public. You are right mate in that most business transactions are based on a valuation linked to the existing or expected profitability. Currently in my business sector we are looking at valuations that are around 8 times annual profit. So of £100k is the valuation profitability of about £12.5k per annum would be expected. Although of course if the business only has a short term lease then the profit multiplier would be significantly lower.

Legally I think the only major requirement would be to have an Annual General Meeting with all shareholders invited to seek approval for the annual accounts (and they would be relatively detailed). How Mr Bowden actually manages the relationship with the shareholders would be a matter for him to decide.
-
I agree, as Malcolm pointed out I was suggesting staggered age groups competing against each other on appropriate levels of equipment.
-
Motorsport by its very nature can be dangerous. However I think speedway should be looking at getting kids involved in the sport competitively at a much younger age on suitably sized bikes with suitably sized engines, how many kids take part in other motorcycle sports at young ages? Could we get them into our sport instead? Perhaps then we would eventually find the next British world champion, the broader the base the higher you can climb!

Motorhead Song On World Cup Advert?
SimonB replied to longlivefrankie's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I must have seen Motorhead live over 20 times now seeing them again at Knebworth on Sunday and again in Norwich later in the year, fantastic band -
Anyone know any pubs in Manchester that will be showing the GP? I will be there ready for the Posh Vs Huddersfield play off final he next day!
-
No disrespect to Jack Hargreaves but I would have rather have seen the team look like this, if it had ever been possible - Brundle Evans Jacobs Halsey Rayson Heeps Blackbird That team would be seriously challenging, as will the existing team I am sure if Jack can produce the quality racing that he is no doubt capable of. I cant really get the last time he rode at MIldenhall out of my head though!
-
I for one don't agree. Rayson showed real talent at Mildenhall last season and was improving week on week. Dropping him was a bad move in my opinion particularly after he had been presented to the fans as a tigers rider already.

Not a matter of making Mr Coventry see sense just a matter of working with him and Pete to get the best track we could. Obviously any shared facility will have issues but for me there was never any problem of working with Dave. Indeed on more than one occasion his support was vital in getting meetings to go ahead and at that time there was no financial incentive for him to do so just the fact that he wanted to help when asked.
-
Personally I never had any problem with Dave when asking for track prep time and in my dealings with him he always expressed his support for speedway. Still what do I know
-
didn't even know they existed anymore!!! But all credit to Andy he did at least put up the numbers we needed and I am sure when he has time they will all become neat and tidy. or fools seldom differ isn't it great to be thinking about team building though
-
Only one difference to mine although it would be good to give Adam a place I did also see some great signs of improvement in Nick last season that might initially be worth seeing if it can continue? Would be great to have the proper second half races again to really see the new riders against the reserves that have a team place!
