Vintage Speedway World Champions Nostalgia Night
shazzybird replied to jblanch69's topic in Years Gone By
Why not just wait till the VSRA dinner and grab a couple of unsuspecting Riders/ex Riders and collar them whilst "Tipsy" about you event and tell them in the morning "but you agreed last night! The fans will be really disappointed if you don't turn up now. I've already emailed the speedway forum" -
Hey Gibbo back in '75 didn't Maggie and Cliff sponsor the final race and donate one of their coats (the ones with the stripes down the arms) Blimey how old am I!!!! Maybe even just before your era that may have been too and that makes me feel even older as I can remember them having a stall just by the main gate toilets! Next to Vic Hollingsbees' Ice Cream van!
-
Will have to dig out my crusader coat out from Dick Searle era! Still got it in the loft as I'm sure a few others have too!!
-
Nice to see you found your way in here Dick, Lets hope Barneys' not too far behind you! Gutted as I stayed in all day I could have gone to Iwade :'(

Shazzybird, like I told you I know very little about British speedway. I do not support a team and I do not go to any tracks and I don't buy the speedway star. As you have pointed out the above, one thing puzzles me why go to all the expense of this event when you have hardly any interest in speedway? Why not leave it to the powers that be to organise and pay for it? :? :? -

Thanks for the explanation Jim. Maybe they should pay for their own accomodation though! -

Blimey you are worse than me for arguing with Steve! Just a small pointer though Jim.. for someone who admits to knowing very little if nothing about British speedway you don't half get on your high horse over it! How much per ticket £25? and what exactly do you get for that apart from a meal? -

If your travelling by car get the aa road map off the net it gives you directions and tells you how long roughly it will take -
The year you had your arms in plaster at the dinner/dance, you probably saw him walking around with his dark glasses on!

Same here Pammie will find out where we are staying soon as my cousin has booked us all up, but will meeting lots of forum members on Saturday afternoon as long as they don't mind me meeting up with them....... trust me I'm nicer in person! -
For me the fun turned to horror @ Canterbury end of season .... when some clever person decided to rather than throw flour went into the garage out the back of the main stand and grab handful of powder (which was used for lining the gate) and throw it in my Uncles' face... result was he ended up in Kent & Canterbury Hospital and had to walk around like Roy Orbison for weeks on end not knowing whether his eyes would ever be right again. Fortunately his eyesight was fine after a while. Other than that the end of season "Frolics" were always fun.
-
lol I was gonna go on and say you couldn't do that these days else you would end up in court! thought it might open up a can of worms so didn't bother lol
-
I only wanted the answer! anyway Steve is the biggest culprit he's a born leader

Anyone remember the Mail seller @ Canterbury used to give me sweets every week!

Hurriken ... thank you for taking time out to reply to our postings on here, it must be hard for you being so far away from home and your family. I think when I say send regards to your family, it goes for everyone on the forum you are in our thoughts xx I was not lucky enough to meet your dad, but as my dad said earlier he met and watched your dad ride and he was the perfect gentleman xx

what next for Aussie speedway?
shazzybird replied to a topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Theory ok but not really as there are two many other events that go on inside the Millennium stadium to take the pitch up for a one off meeting in the middle of the football season they would just be laughed at, that is why the grand prix is at the end of the season after the FA cup has been played there in May (ish) in fact last year they only had a little while to prepare the track to due another sporting event there close to the grand prix. I think anyway -
My dad has just come round and he likes to catch up on what is going on in the forum have just read this thread to him and he would like to add some comments: Ken was a gentleman always had time for his public, rode as a true professional always immaculately turned out and well liked by all who rode against him. It was a pleasure to have known him and actually watch him ride. That was what dad had to say!
-
Bugga Kev thought you had forgotten and my dad has just come home and as soon as he came in the door I was straight on him and he told me the answer straight away! Good though kept us guessing all week ty xx

How do you spell Knutson in as in Bjorn. Correctly?
shazzybird replied to jblanch69's topic in Years Gone By
Well obviously you know nothing about British Speedway and the man who bought it to the UK, or else you would know more about Canterbury than the Cathedral wouldn't you ............. Touché -

Matty that is so sad. You will have to invest in SKY when you get there !
