  1. "Free" did someone mention my favourite word here Is there a "Free" return flight available as well
  2. Was with my Dad yesterday morning and we were chatting about speedway in the 70's as we do :!: Found out that Dad was introduced to speedway by being a mechanic for Tyburn Gallows , when Tyburn had a serious accident JH found dad a job as Starting Marshall @ Kingsmead. Dad worked for Invicta Motors at the time, who JH approached to purchase a tractor for the track, Invictas (being a local firm on the Sturry Road) lent a tractor each week for track grading (If ever the tractor broke down Dad being a mechanic @ the time, was the one called out to go and fix it :!: ) anyone who had an interest in speedway was given the opportunity to go and help with the track preparation, interest slowly dwindled off but two people remained keen, my Dad and "Uncle" Paddy Patterson who became JH's Trackman eventually becoming Clerk of the Course. After a number of years doing the start, Dad went into the pits as Machine Examiner & Pit Marshall, One memory of this is when Dad had to strip the bike of Mark Courtney after he had won the Under 21 Final @ Kingsmead, which he did so in front of the stand for fans to watch and answer questions regarding the mechanics of the bike. Happy Days

  4. Good Luck with the site 121, will have a word with family members and see what we can come up with our end for you
  5. Honestly.... I was sat in the pub watching the GP with another speedway fan and about 12 non fans and too be honest I was hoping to win a few of them over for the sake of the sport, alas not, they still think it's boring, in their words "first out the trap wins" which as I watched each race that was exactly how it looked, Holte, Pedersen...well done... Tony Rickardsson .... hurts me to say it but he was pure class! Every inch a World Champ again!
  6. Never far away Ian you know me just been having a browse, some photos there brought tears to my eyes as I'm sure they will my Dad when he gets here for breakfast in the morning and I show him the site, Team Managers name missing from a couple of team photos : Russ Osbourne Picture 23 : Don't ya just love him Sidecar 121 many thanks for all the memories there xx
  7. Spooky whilst you was writing the above I was @ my Aunties asking about the starting traps, she also said they were used @ Canterbury in the second half of Canterburys programme and the idea was improve starts, tapes were also used, in the picture it does look like the tapes are already up. So another theory was to stop each rider seeing when the other had let the clutch out.
  8. Too memories to mention, mainly from the 70's/80's Rye House on a Sunday afternoon was always a good day out :!: Especially if the River had burst it's banks (Again!!) when the pubs new dance floor that was illuminated got waterlogged and fused!

My m8 at the mo is reading over my shoulder, now she is not a speedway fan of any way shape or form, so when she saw this thread she commented on how this thread would be most suited to her, until I explained that it meant Speedway Rider some people :!: :!: Just had to share that little comment with her

  20. Thought so, there is no way on this earth 20,000 Scots would part with their money to come south (oh well with that comment I will no doubt be meeting a lot of Scots @ Cardiff this year , but I bet it's not when it's their round
