  1. Jimmy Squibb was born in 1920 according to the Cradley web site.
  2. Mylor,i only wish. I know you were joking about Dudley Wood, but the guys behind the return of Cradley have everything in place except for LAND. No what we have in mind may be an opportunity that may or may not be there, and it arose during a conversation we were having about the plight of Dudley Wood. Cheers Deano. Deano e,mail me at paulhtromans@freeuk.com
  3. Could someone possibly help me with some costings please?. What would be a ROUGH cost to take up some turf, and put down a Speedway track of some 280 mtrs, with drainage, safety fence, starting gate etc, providing they would not be to prohibitive,i intend pursuing a possible opportunity that may be there. Also what guarantees have to be lodged with the Conference league prior/on joining?. I realise that i can find out most if not all of these things by going directly to the BSPA,but i would prefer not to involve them at the present time, until such times that we have progressed matters further.
  4. No9 Jan O,No 10 The Black Country Dane Eric,No11 Phil,No8 Sean W ?,No 13 Shawn, but could be kelly,No14Simon,No16 Rick, the two Cradley riders in the other photograph the No 1 I,d say was Phil the other rider?.
  5. Howard Cole?,yep he did,i also believe he used to be known in his earlier days as Kid Bodie, yep just checked it out on the web site,he did not want his parents or teachers to know he was riding,Any Cradley facts can be checked out on the web site;www.cradleyspeedway.co.uk
  6. Jan Steachman for wolves, but was it the seventies?
  7. Frigbo don,t insult Eric by suggesting he rode for the wolves, how they would have wished. He only ever rode for one British team "CRADLEY".apart from the guest appearances
  8. Hi Gemini i Know the question was not directed at me,but to Mark, but since we <Cradley>closed i have been to Coventry say 5 times, and Wolves about the same, but i am a Cradley fan. I still live in hope i only had a reply from Dudley council this week about a prospective site, this was a tentative enquiry, and they asked for Amplified details, and a business plan,so as you can see they are being Helpful.
  9. As a matter of interest which of the following Cradley riders out of the following would you drop for a team of seven, all the riders are post 1980;Simon Wigg,Phil Collins,Bruce Penhall,Jan O Pedersson,Billy Hamill,Eric Gundersson,Greg Hancock,Simon Cross,Peter Nahlin,Lance King,Alan Grahame. Please No the riders in your 1- 7, appologies to riders not included.
  10. Well unless my memory fails me <thats all we have at cradley>,Peter never seemed to ride the Cradley track very well <i am sure someone will prove me wrong>for what reason i dont know,as it was far from a gaters track.Phil was the same as the other brothers could not gate to save his life.
  11. I think Phil was the most naturally gifted of the brothers Collins,i think he was to nice a guy,had he been mentally tougher then he would have been world Champ.
  12. No 3,could be Terry Betts,In the red cap its definately Ole Olsen, and the kings lynn rider No 3 is Dave Jessup.
  13. There are people actively seeking a new site in Birmingham,my money is on Perry Barr greyhound stadium, leased by the GRA,freehold held by the b,ham city council,Oxford, belle vue, wimbledon, are all combined greyhound speedway sites owned/leased by GRA,I feel sure that if some business man/Promoter came forward "The Brummies"could be added to that list, for those of you that don,t know the location it is across the walsall road, from the old stadium, and is the OLD alexandra athletics stadium,so come ON forward PROSPECTIVE promoters.
  14. Hey i have,nt given up but WHAT are the fans doing???,we cannot just sit back, but thats whats happening,No one is going to knock anyones door and say here is a track for your speedway team. It looks to me that is what they are waiting for, cause NO-one is putting any sort of pressure on Dudley council. How many fans do Cradley have, seems to me there must be less than 50 of us,the rest are in the woodwork.
  15. I will say it now we will never see the return of Cradley Heath in Dudley again, the council just don,t want speedway. The supporters should have got together years ago and put pressure on the council not left it to one or two men, whenever i have tried to get supporters together it has failed,RIP Cradley Heathens.
  16. Don.t know about a speedway track, but Highgate is a current greyhound track, who may be interested in speedway if its not to close to sheffield.
  17. Ian rode for Cradley for a short while, generally was lucky to score a point.
  18. Arnie Pander when he was scratching around in second halves at Cradley.
  19. You can look at www.cradleyspeedway.co.uk a very informative site and you will see we are still alive.
  20. Deano Norton Cannes, and Chasewater have i think both been lost due to the M6 Toll road, but i may be wrong on that, don,t forget Leicester also have a horse race track, would they be interested in staging speedway on there land?,there must be room, and a horse race track is only used about 12/15 times per year,so i would think any additional income would be very wellcome.
  21. I did not say they would be ideal for speedway <planning, facilities etc> what i meant was they are not making millions, and would most probably wellcome the added income from a speedway team,Warwick is not much worse than Stoke, and the river generally floods in the winter,i have not known it flood in the summer,However i dont think the planners would wellcome Speedway,to toffee nosed.
  22. Dekker i agree with the working together, and no them and us,we are in it together. Sean,Bedwelty in Gwent,Valley is in Tredowen<Hengoed>both Wales, Easington is Durham,Highgate is Rotheram,Kinsley is near Pontefract Yorks,Pelaw Grange is Durham <Chester lee street>,Stainforth is just north of Doncaster,Thornton is Fife Scotland,Westhougton is around Wigan, and Wheatley Hill is again Durham, also there may be Hartlepool last i heard the stadium was Derelict, and maybe ones for you would be Bury St Edmunds, and Wisbech Do they still exist?,plus you have the place around Northampton/Corby area that has the big Oval track any chance there?.
  23. Dog Tracks that may wellcome Speedway,Ayr,Bedwelty,Corbiewood, Easington,Gretna,Highgate,Kinsley,Pelaw Grange,Swansea,Thornton,Valley, Warwick,Westhougton,Wheatley Hill,Sunderland,Harlow,Henlow,Nottingham, Stainforth,Swaffham.Excepting Sunderland and Nottingham these are for the most part small independantly owned tracks not making great money, and should wellcome the income, and if you add the horse racing tracks the potential is quite large.
  24. Hackney stadium in 1992 was owned by Brent-Walker who went <boxing brothers Billy & George> crash, and obviously sold on the stadium. Walthamstow Stadium is owned by the Chandler Family, and in 2002 produced profits in excess of 1 million pounds. I know for a fact Newton Abbott would wellcome a speedway team, has anyone in the country approached horse race tracks <maybe Leicester/Nottingham,Lingfield,Aintree, who have plenty of land, and would most likely wellcome the added income. By the way guys i would not slag of the dogs to much, cause if it were not for the dogs i can think of a couple of tracks at least, and probably several, that would not be here. The current elite champions would be one,you must realise Speedway is NOT that profitable. If anyone wants info on speedway dual dog tracks 1992 ownership ask as i am only to pleased to help.
  25. Cradley,White city,Hackney. All these tracks were GOOD to race on,and ALL of them had greyhound tracks outside of them. Its not relevant whether or not there is a dog track there,we like our dog tracks to be RACEABLE to you know,in fact were it not for the speedway, the dogs would have more racing room,so it works both ways you know.
