  1. That drives me crazy!!! Particularly at the start of a race, when they list each rider's current points - which are usually wrong...
  2. Hmmmm... As I said, I will keep looking.
  3. There is a sidecar driver called Chris (drove in the early 80's), and another driver called Joe from 2010 or so. They are both from Helston, so I would think they're related.
  4. Google didn't pull up anything... You sure it was "Trewin"? I'll keep looking...
  5. That's what I mean; you just go back and edit it, and nobody is any the wiser. I do it quite a bit!
  6. Ah, but that's different (or so the "experts" on here will try to convince you...)
  7. EVERY sport has it's own quirks. Take my own sport of darts. Are there any other sports where both players/teams don't get an equal number of turns to finish the game?
  8. Try looking at the World Cup. Round-robin groups with a points table, which are then wiped out in favour of a knockout...
  9. I agree with you as far as the 20 heats, but modern sport is all about sudden-death and play-offs. A straight 20 heats WOULD be easy to have all race points counting, but with semis and a final, that alters things drastically. Overall, I preferred the previous system, but I never liked the way that a rider could win a GP, and receive a much lower score than the guys he beat. To me, that defeats the object of sport...
  10. No. Race points are only used as the qualification criteria for the semis; championship points are awarded STRICTLY on finishing position. The guy who finished 3rd will ALWAYS get more than the guy who finished 4th, who will always get more than the guy who finished 5th. This is the problem, as people seem to intertwine and confuse the two. Race points aren't included in the championship standings. It doesn't matter that someone scored 15 points, and finished last in his semi; the 15 points just secured a spot in the semi - NOTHING ELSE. WHether he got a 15-point max, or scraped in with 6, it doesn't matter. If he finishes last in his semi, he will get the same points. It's no different to the old World Final system. Somebody could win the Overseas Finak with 15, and another could scrape in with 7. The important thing is that they qualified for the Inter-Continental Final, where they all start from scratch again. That's what the semis are now - it is "another round" where they all start from scratch. In what other forms of motorsport do they have no brakes? In what other forms of sport do they have 16-man round-robins?

    Fave Progs

Aamazing how many progs used cartoons of other riders in the home team colours, eh? We had Bruce Cribb in Dons colours...
  12. More in line with ANY sport - the higher you place, the more points you get! Crazy concept to a lot on here, though...
  13. Is it really that crazy when the points reflect your finishing position in the event? At least this way, the winner gets the most points, the second-place man gets more than the third-place man, etc... That didn't always happen with the old system.
  14. You mean, ANOTHER semi-final for Lambert, the guy who isn't good enough to even be in the GP's???
  15. It's hard to say, but I can tell you that the TV companies aren't always interested in what would actually be best for them...
  16. Unfortunately, while TV dictates to the sports these days, they really have no idea what the participants or spectators want/expect/deserve. It's just about ego...
  17. Can you take a hippo into a hippodrome???
