New Points System For Gp 2007
barrow boy replied to tomazpozrl's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Nothing to do with being proud. I just expressed an opinion as to why he keeps getting back in. Doesn't matter to me whether he does or doesn't -
New Points System For Gp 2007

They obviously feel that GB must have at least 2 riders in the competition and with Scott Nicholls being our national champion and provided he remains competitive he will always get a place. -

I wouldn't and I agree back to the original 4 finals it should be. -
World Final Memories
barrow boy replied to barrow boy's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
But it may have been more popular in General, just like all the others including yours about 1986. Mine covers world finals in GENERAL. Get it, general? Incidentally as suggested I sent a PM to a moderator seeking an explantion but to date I have not yet received a reply. -
World Final Memories
barrow boy replied to barrow boy's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Oh Yes.... I do seem to remember us always heading South which would be down. Told you I had gone senile. We also used to go to Wimbledon for The Laurels and The Internationale....which would be down again I suppose. But on the other hand we regularly attended the Riders Championship thingy at Hyde Road, Manchester, when we would be heading North. See...I'm getting the hang of this now. Great day out at Belle Vue with a trip to the fair afterwards. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thank you. -

If this topic should be in years gone by so should a lot of other topics that have been allowed to stay in General. -

I put this topic in General Discussions because I thought it might attract more interest there and I hoped it would interest the older fans and advocates of pre GP days. However the powers that be thought otherwise. -
I have just watched one of my christmas presents from my son a DVD of the 1981 Wembley World Final. At the time he was 7 years old and due to him needing the loo I missed several races whilst having to take him. Ever tried getting through thousands of spectators twice right from the front behind the starting gate to the very back at the top and back down again holding the hand of a little one. When I eventually got back to my original place I found out that I had missed probably the best ever race which was of course Bruce Penhall's hunting down of Tommy Knudsen in heat 10. Now I've finally seen it and boy what a race but there were several other fine races to in a meeting consisting of Penhall,Olsen,Knudsen,Gundersen,Neilsen,Carter, Lee, Morton,Jessup,Muller etc.Certainly seems to have been a bit better standard than todays standard of finalists don't you think? Would anyone else care to share any World Final memories with us.

Who Will Be World Champ In 2007?
barrow boy replied to a topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
AJ only does well on the tracks he likes. Same goes for TG. JC,NP,GH invariably do well on all types of tracks. That's why they are the top 3. -

He was still better than Lee R, Pepe P & Nils KI but they got in and gues what they all under performed as we all knew they would so Hans A under performing didn't come into it. Money talks I suppose. -
I think it's worth trying for a season. It used to be done but in conjunction with the old TS rule.

New Article On The Cradley Website
barrow boy replied to BUDGIE's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Do you know that I too didn't expect to see Hans Andersen at 6. Should this mean therefore that if 3 qualifiers are entitled to take part that only 2 in fact do so and that the next in line i.e. PK should be in. If this had happened then only 4 places would have been available and one from Jarek H. Bjarne P, Antonio L, Scott N & Chris H would not have got in. -

Very good. Just about sums it all up perfectly. Just one query though. You said the top 10 all requalified by right. I thought it was the top 8 excluding Hans Andersen. -

Here are the average placings SCB JC-3 GH & HA 5 NP-6 LA & SN & MZ & AJ 7 TG-8 AL & BP & JH 9 NKI-12 LR-13 PP-15 You're correct. It proves yet again that SN is worthy of another go. -

Isn't having the best 15 in the world against all of BSI's principles. No one should be invited. They should all qualify on merit. -

In support or otherwise my theory that the losing semi finalists be rewarded for reaching the top 8. I took the librty to award the highest qualified third placed semi finalist 14 pts, the second highest qualified third placed semi finalist 13 pts, the highest qualified fourfh placed semi finalist 12 pts and the second highest qualified fourth placed semi finalist 11 pts. If any of these riders actually qualified with more points then their qualifying score was retained. Just for the record the outcome is:- 1st Jason Crump Australia 193 2nd Greg Hancock USA 151 3rd Nicki Pedersen Denmark 137 4th Andreas Jonsson Sweden 124 5th Leigh Adams Australia 122 6th Mate Zagar Slovenia 114 7th Scott Nicholls England 104 8th Tomaz Gollob Poland 97 9th Jarek Hampel Poland 96 10th Antonio Lindback Sweden 92 & Bjarne Pedersen Denmark 92 12th Hans Andersen Denmark 61 13th Niels Kristian Iversen Denmark 58 14th Tony Rickardsson Sweden 44 15th Lee Richardson England 42 16th Piotr Protasiewicz Poland 31 Not much difference at the very top end but interestingly it would seem that Scott Nicholls is worthy of another chance when it is also considered that he had one less GP than the others. His GP average is in fact better than Mate Zagars. It would also confirm that the riders down to 11th place did well enough to warrant another chance. -
Have a look at my topic 'More To The Point' (Making The GP Series More Competitive) that I started on 26.06.06. This was viewed 833 times and received 27 responses that were the thoughts at that time. However now that this year's series is almost finished who knows opinion may now have changed. Nice to know that someboby else is thinking along the same lines though.

British Selection For 2007
barrow boy replied to Gaz W's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Agreed Hans Andersen did not finish in the top 8 but neither did Scott Nicholls, Antonio Lindback & Jarek Hampel and they were all invited back in. It wouldn't have been so bad though if Lee Richardson who finshed behind Hans Andersen got back in. Total travesty. 2 of these 3 are not in the top 8 this year either. -
2006 World Champion: Jason Crump
barrow boy replied to -DelBoyRodders-'s topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I don't think that Greg, Niki, Leigh, Andreas, Bjarne and the rest of the boys will appreciate being called weak. There are always riders not included that should have been but no one said that Tony won so easily last year because the rest of the field was weak. Could it be that like most everyone else has said. they won it because they were much better and more determined and more dedicated that most of the rest? -

barrow boy replied to Shortcrust's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Anyway it's not really being gifted points. The actual points gained doesn't change. All I am saying is that if it is apparent that by being unable to ride it costs a rider a top 8 finish, this should be taken into account when giving out the wild cards.
