  1. PC has given more to the sport and its fans in memories alone than any fly-be-night promoter. They come and go. It is sad that some are now smearing him for the comments in this week's article. But that's what speedway fans do, when they don't like what you say. The way the sport has gone, PC must be glad he has an excuse not to attend.
  2. Quite depressing that I witnessed the start of many of these riders' careers.
  3. Got rid of most of my memorabilia but not all the reference things - mags, progs, yearbooks etc. Probably always keeps these. In fact, need the last few years of the Peter Oakes yearbooks, if anyone has them to offload.
  4. I am of the opinion that British speedway will always race seven days a week. Just as I think the stay-away riders will return once the likes of Sweden and Poland can no longer offer that pot of gold. Concentrate on making the product here better before we try to persuade guys back here that left the sinking ship... a ship that began sinking when these same sort of riders were actually racing here.
  5. Thought end-of-season shindigs had seen their day, to be honest. Aren't they from a bygone time where we all sat at the table to eat our meals? Are they from an era when riders actually cared who had been supporting them all that summer?
  6. I also believe not much should be read into the gulf in scores. The so-called Promotion-Relegation match is merely bait for punters to hand over a few more quids. If Sheffield wanted to come up, I suspect there are easier ways than winning a two-legged speedway match. If Leicester wanted to go down, they wouldn't have to lose it. They could just apply. Really... to be honest, there was nothing to race for.
  7. We're getting closer to the American form of racing than ever, individual events. But when there is a complete lack of personalities, how can you foster a fondness for any one rider? I'd watch Tennis, Golf etc if I liked the man and not the team. I got into speedway because, unlike other motorsports, it was primarily a team sport... with individual events thrown in for good measure. But now it seems to have gone the ways of putting the team ethic second, what riders can come together on one day for the "team." I feel torn. I can't watch a team match because the team thing is no more; I can't do the GPs, as I see no one in it who I see firstly as my club rider, as they have so many clubs. Loyalty to my team is no more. So why should I be interested in these riders racing individual events? I know I rarely have anything positive to say about present-day speedway... but, come on, I am not the only one judging by many posters on here. In fact, many are from fans who know the rulebook cover to cover (yawn) and yet miss the point that it should be, firstly, a simple sport with strong foundations. Another winter of promised dreams will lie in shatters come next Spring.
  8. On nights like this that I wish we still had Oracle.
  9. Thanks for that! I can wait, if you don't mind digging it out for me! Then again, somebody else might provide in the meantime. Thank you.
  10. Does anyone have the full scores for this meeting. Lee Edwards won it after beating Glenn Hornby, but that's all I have. Thanks in advance.
  11. Can just see it now... the slowest matches in speedway history, neither team wants to win. Bruce Penhall 1982 Overseas Final all over again.
  12. It's the Grand Finale man! Yet it is completely now a one-horse race without Lindgren for Wolves. Swindon should win easily. This year's Play-Off Final has turned into that Christmas present you didn't want. Wouldn't get this anti-climax scenario pre-Play-Offs..... Just saying, like....
  13. Isn't any team manager restricted by the rule nowadays more than the pasts? For example, the old tac sub meant you had to use your noggin more than you do with the double bubble rule. I am not fully wised up with this week's rules, but I know the old tac sub rules could be utilized straight from heat four, as long as the team was six or more down.
  14. There you go... another one. When you lose patience... keeping up with all the silly rules, some of the point in attending speedway goes West. A long-time fan, another one, disillusioned. Used to be a time when speedway fans died before ever thinking of walking away. This winter, there must be a drastic shake-up. Mustn't there? Also, BT Sport, after two rain-offs already, may be a little cautious of throwing decent money away, setting up cameras and the like for the second leg Belle Vue v. Wolves. SKY used to do it, got burned, got wise, and then we now have BT.
  15. Looking for Belle Vue scorers for matches in other countries. I know they raced several times in Russia in the 50s etc and Hungary (1991) and need the details for my records, and details of any other trips in other countries the club undertook. Thanks in advance...

  17. The Play-Offs have merely replaced the importance of the Knock-Out Cup. I doubt very much that attendances actually increase for a table match featuring two Play-Off candidates any differently than comparing figures when two title-challengers met before the pre-Play-Off times. On the other hand, clubs without a chance of making the Play-Off cut probably have attendances comparable back in the day to also-rans in a proper league system, if you go on percentages. But now, revenue must be lost as practically a month is wiped from the season in October, as all other team competitions seems meaningless. From a personal view, I remember the feeling in 2005 when Belle Vue played Coventry in the PO FInal. The next week was the KO Cup Final, an anti-climatic feeling, after the Lord Mayor's show... and that, despite Aces winning the first KO Cup since 1975 (that's 30 years)!
  18. Speedway's rule makers just cause confusion. I knew I couldn't keep up, 12 years ago when a fan beside me asked rule-linked question. A fan of of 30 years then, feeling embarrassed because I had no clue to the answer, I just pointed to someone with chips. "Those chips look nice," I said. Thankfully I swiftly kicked the question into the long grass. But I felt a fake in not knowing the answer. By the way, it was a Golden Double question.... Simple is best... aggregate bonus points, 4 points for a win over a certain amount of points, 10 if you use all your own riders... keep it simple.
  19. Agree. I doubt it... as teams usually increase support when they are successful.
  20. If they charge more for the Play-Offs, then what about some of the weakened line-ups and the early cancellations they offer from March-August? Surely they should drop some of the prices.
  21. You get more for your money.... You see speedway fans who haven't been all season standing beside you... least you know they are still with us and haven't kicked the bucket. And you even have someone standing close enough to you that makes you realise what speedway with a crowd is really like. God, some people.
