Not seen him ride, but reading about him he sounds a very useful prospect. The last rider I saw dominating races at this level the way he seems to be was Darcy Ward.

When I saw the title I did think of Andrew Silver, although in his first few seasons at Swindon he was brilliant but seemed to see it ad a bit of a hobby. Thinking of others, Mike Ferreira was more of a disappointment than Andrew.

It might not be the reason, but it should be. Again, the race formula is throwing out averages that make heatleaders able to drop down. That, to me, should not be allowed. You could never have had, say, Chris Morton dropping down to the second division. Also, of course, we have the likes of Charles Wright and Adam Ellis on 'heatleader' averages, yet there is a clear distinction between them and Craig Cook. The PL is a lower league for a reason. It's crazy to start allowing top line riders in just because the averages are messed up. Anyway, no doubt Cook will soon drop down and then maybe the floodgates will open just as they did with overseas riders when Jens Rasmussen signed for Rye House. And a lot of PL sides can't compete with that which is why they are in the PL. If teams can afford international quality riders they should be riding in the top division. That's my opinion anyway.

Adam Ellis is not a bonafide header and everyone knows it. Cook is.

If any of those were on the heatleader list then I don't feel they should be in the PL either, apart from Lambert maybe who is still effectively a bit of a young newcomer.

He's an EL heatleader. EL heatleaders do not belong in the lower league.

It's not ridiculous. You talk about World Class riders. World class riders have no place in the lower league. If Peterborough want to sign 'world class riders' then they should move up.

I'm not aware of facts, but, for me, no rider on the EL heatleader list should be eligible to ride in the PL. I'm making an assumption here that none do and that Cook is on it. I'm pretty sure that would be of more benefit to Gorzow than it is to Zmarzlik.

Would be harsh on Tungate, but if that is something that is a possibility it is certainly worth considering.

There was a track in 1929 in Gorse Hill, behind the Duke of Ednburgh public house. I think it just staged a handfull of meetings, but every time I drive past the pub I've tried toimagine a speedway track being there behind. If you look on Google maps there is a road called "Tiverton Road", which is where the track was.

I'd like to see tracks I never got to see. Reading Tilehurst and the original Swindon would be fascinating for me. It would also be great to take a trip to West Ham or New Cross. Not so bothered about specific meetings. It's experiencing the old stadiums that I'd love.

I agree. The old race format created heroes and the crowd want heroes. I'd even suggest taking the nominated riders race out of the averages. Give us back out 10 point number ones.

I think there were several times that Reading had to do things to their stadium to comply with the lease, and rather than get them done they sold more and more years off the lease each time. Then, with not many years left, they got out.

If you can include Stenlund, then presumably you'd be able to include Milan Spinka too.

The very first meeting I went to at Swindon was Swindon v Wolves in 1974, and it was announced that Graham Guthrie had died. He was named in the programme as anouncer for that meeting, but I never got to hear him announce. I also remember Bert Harrison announcing at Swindon in the 1980s.

Calm down Sidney. Nobody is having a go at Martin Ashby. I think the whole point here is that Martin was a great great rider for his clubs and, as mentioned, would go out on a limb to ride for them. Maybe he never had the true determination to translate that ability into World Finals. Remember that in 1975, all he had to do was block out Ray Wilson and he would have been in the world final, but he rode fairly and missed out. Woffy has tat single determination, and puts his championship aspirations first. That's what has put him where he is.

I think that was his point. Martin was one of those riders who was just too mild mannered to become a real World star despite having the ability.

It's totally pathetic. Poor Charles Wright tonight. It's so bloody obvious that reserves should only move up to second string and heatleaders only down to second string. Or just revert to the proper race formula with proper averages. A total cock up.
