  1. IMO, one of, if not the, most important ways for speedway to go ahead in this country is for more tracks to (re) open in the major conurbations such as London and Birmingham. I know that opening new tracks in the capital is especially difficult for many reasons, but having tracks in cities like Brum is I feel essential for the sports survival. The Brummies were always a well supported club (except perhaps the Bordesley years)and took many supporters to away fixtures thus providing revenue for those smaller clubs. All we need is for our our go-ahead City council to get their collective finger out and get voting. Watch this space.
  2. Unfortunately, my lasting memory of EPG is seeing poor Joey Owen's career finish before my eyes at Bordesley Green in 1985. A truly awful sight and such a shame for a the bloke.
  3. Thanks WW. It was my good self who asked about Mal C. I managed to track him down last year. I think he also still has a tool hire business, or did have until recently. Here's a link to his caravan park, http://www.woodlandwaters.co.uk/. Cheers again.
  4. Does anyone recall an event called "Superbike 6" which took place I think in 1978 or 79. It featured riders from road racing, trials, motocross and speedway. I recall Peter Collins representing speedway along with another rider who I can't recall. We at Brum always thought that Arthur should have been entered in it as he would probably have ran away with the competition. I remember the speedway leg was held at Muckyhampton with the rest being held at Donington.
  5. Spoke to a few people at work who watched this meeting last night and they were all well impressed. None of them have ever seen a live meeting yet, so I'll make sure they all come to Brum next season...........fingers crossed.
  6. Chris Harrison, Hec Haslinger, Terry Shearer and Ian Wilson because they are the riders from Birmingham's 1971 season that we haven't tracked down yet.
  7. As I didn't see my first meeting until 18/07/70, it's difficult for me to pick anyone. So my pre 1970 hero has to be Derek Timms, because I've known him for 30 years and he's such a bloody great bloke.
  8. We had an Aussie at Brum around 74-5 called Terry Brett. The original full throttle sheep farmer, He had sold his farm to fund a crack at speedway but was, well, hopeless. He'd coast down the straights and whack the throttle wide open on the bends. I think that Perry Barr was a bit on the tight side for him, maybe he should have joined Crewe. I don't think he rode any league matches though. Anyone else remember him?
  9. OOPS, sorry Mr Berthoven, I'm a bit late now. I have taped the programme and will transfer it to my PC in due course so some parts may well end up on the Brummies site, I'll keep you posted.
  10. Zdenek rode for Brum in 1980 and then again in '82.
  11. Zdenek Kdruna started out as a mx rider before turning to speedway.
  12. The Brummies supporters website is still trying to track down a couple of riders from 1971, the year when Perry Barr reopened, namely Chris Harrison and Ian Wilson. I know that Chris may still be in Oakengates near Telford. Any ideas?
  13. Great site Bomber. Please let us know if you dig anything up on Terry Shearer.
  14. Is there anyone out there who has any photos of ZK that we can use on our website, www.brummiespeedway.co.uk ? Personal photos would be great and we would respect peoples' copyright and protect all images from being downloaded. Our site only has one pic of "The Demon" , it would be great to have a few more. If you can help, pm me and I'll supply an email address to send them to. Thanks.
  15. As twilson (who he?) has forgotten to update everyone on the whereabouts of Mal C, I'll do it for him. He is still in the Grantham area has 2 business ventures at the moment. One is a plant hire company and the other is a fishing and leisure complex http://www.woodlandwaters.co.uk/. He says he still has a love of bikes and racing but as you can see he doen't get much opportunity to ride these days. www.brummiespeedway.co.uk
