I can remember paying that much too! A considerable lump out of my pay back then and probably why I have so few I was researching a piece for the Mildenhall programme on their early history in the 4 Team Tournament last evening, and in the 1981 programme from Peterborough was an advert of K M Videos offering meetings they had filmed between March 28th and 14th June. In total there were 38 meetings so they certainly kept busy back then. Some of the tracks featured included Barrow, Ellesmere Port, Canterbury, Weymouth, Crayford, Wimbledon, Boston plus three Mildenhall meetings Ive never seen! I'm surprised that the owner has not seen a niche in the market here, as I'm sure these defunct tracks would be highly sort of by collectors! For the record 30 minute meetings cost £22, League Cup/16 heat meetings £23 and Test matches/Open meetings £25!

Many thanks for the information on KM Videos Rob, and your kind offer of a copy of the Hackney v Mildenhall meeting! It is much appreciated. Backwards DAF racing and Dutch Kick Boxing hmmm, and some say Speedway is a minority spot The commentaries certainly were very good on them and leave todays excitable shouting style of commentating in the shade, also there were excellent interviews. One meeting I have features interviews with a young Michael Lee and the late Billy Sanders who at the time was a mentor for the young Aussie Dave Jackson, great memories! A PM is on the way to Ken!

I take it you didnt take up there offer to visit their warehouse? Where were the based out of interest?

Does anyone have any information on what happened to this excellent video company? I have a number of their meetings recorded at Mildenhall from 1982 - 1987, and wondered if they were still around as I'd like to obtain some more. I believe Rob McCaffrey who posts on here used to do some commentary work for K M Videos, and they often featured excellent mid meeting interviews with the like of Billy Sanders and Michael Lee. Quality stuff Any info greatly appreciated

Gollob - 2010 Race Suspension?
PhilK replied to a topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Exactly Dekker, never has never will! Gollob wants everything his own way and clearly spat his dummy out. I wouldn't ban him though that would just give him another excuse to use when he doesnt become the 2010 World Champion -
Crumpie World Champion
PhilK replied to Midland Robin's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I'm sure that bothers him every minute of every day A thoroughly deserving winner, Congratulations Crump -
Slightly off topic I know, but I haven't been to Lakeside bar the U21 final this season. Are they still doing the junior second halves and mini meetings before the main meeting?? I remember Douglas and Cook being big on this, but it seems rather quiet this season!

Under 15 Round 3 --weymouth . Sat 13th June
PhilK replied to Main Man's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
Of course you are right Malcolm! Improvements have been seen I believe this season with youngsters being given more track time, especially at National League tracks. Following Scunthorpe's lead Mildenhall, Kings Lynn and Rye House have all had full second halves or Academy matches whenever i've been in attendance, but this must only be the start. At Mildenhall now these second halves are a regular event more people are staying on to support the youngsters and this can only be a good thing. The question the BSPA should / must be asking themselves is why there are only 18 riders in the two U15 events this season! This Championship should be over subscribed not scratching around looking for enough riders to compete? Why is it that the seven rounds of the U15 Championships this season are all held at tracks with National League teams, bar Northside training track?? Ipswich for example, have had a recent fixture gap, but did they show an interest in holding a round, no of course not, their interest is elsewhere, Poland mainly! Perhaps a little harsh, but the point is there! Late last season Kings Lynn put on a junior fixture against a Rye House team, and I can honestly say it was one of the best meetings of the season. There was alot of discussion at the time that the BSPA should strongly encourage every track to hold one of these meetings each season, sadly what followers of the sport could see the BSPA could not. Surely this would not be too much to ask? Some clubs would be concerned that they may lose money due to small crowds but surely this is where the BSPA could support the clubs with a little Sky money to put on such events. The value to the lads who competed was clear for all to see, and maybe youngsters thinking about taking up the sport would be more encouraged if they could see regular opportunities on the speedway calendar. If anyone has any doubts of the value of such meetings or second halves, I'd put forward Adam Kirby and Tom Stokes, two young riders who I have seen improve considerably through receiving proper track time in a racing environment rather than the odd spin after a meeting. Too many tracks seem happier flying in a young Aussie or Pole, than making a real effort to seek future team members from their local area. Already after only 2 months we are seeing National League team/s seeking young Commonwealth riders with patriality, so they can bring them in as 3 point reserves . Surely the reserve slots in National League sides MUST be for young british riders, because if those positions are blocked what chance have the youngsters got entering the sport!!!!! -
Well although there may not be an 'official' league, Academy fixtures are taking place. Mildenhall have a team and have ridden against Kings Lynn and Rye House this season already, also I have seen a Scunthorpe side race against Kings Lynn.

Fim Team Under-21 World Championship
PhilK replied to PhilK's topic in International World of Speedway
Excellent post Bob, leaves little for me to add. I too would like to send my very best wishes to Sonke Petersen, and his family at such a difficult time. Like you I was nothing but impressed but Lewis and Tai, two very professional, dedicated and driven young men, and I can assure everyone that although the result was dissapointing, the team spirit was excellent and the lads stuck together as the afternoon just got tougher and tougher for them. As Bob said Rob Woffinden too was tremendous, a true gentlemen, quietly having words with Brendan on more than one occasion, offering suport and guidance as the going got tough for him. As for the track, when we walked round before the meeting it wasn't great, very loose in places, but by the end it was terrible. I am a few inches taller than Brendan but one hole I stepped into left us at the same height!!! There was ruts everywhere and some very deep holes, and it only increased my respect for all riders who put on entertainment for us supporters in such difficult conditions. As I said Bob has posted most of what needs to be said, but I like to say what an excellent job Dave # Name Removed # did in very difficult circumstances yesterday. Dave is a larger than life character and probably because of that easy to have a pop at by those so inclined, but he really held the show together and was doing everything he could to get the best out of the riders and extract the best result possible from the situation he and they found themselves in. His love and passion for the sport shone through The last three days have really opened my eyes about speedway, and I would like to thank Brendan and Dave Johnson for giving me the opportunity to attend with them and view the sport from a totally different perspective, and Dave # Name Removed # and the riders and their teams/families for reminding me that speedway people really are a different breed, they all have my total respect. -
