How dare you? How can the music of Glenn Miller, Bill Haley and Roy Orbison possibly be called dull?

Phillip Rising can probably dig out some articles written in Speedway Star from 1976-77-78 bemoaning the costs rising astronomically since the introduction of the 4-valve engines such as the Weslake and before that the Neil Street Conversion, not to mention, ultimately the new JAWA 4-valver, the Weslake SOHC and the Weslake DOHC engines, twin spark plugs, twin carbs and all the other developments that were going on at the time. Same symptoms, just someone / something else to blame for it. Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose.

Ask 10 people and I suspect you will get 11 answers to that question. To me it's a bit of two things. Firstly, from a "micro" perspective, it's what value do I gain out of following the sport, and on a "macro" perspective, it's about the standing of the sport within society, compared to other sports, and here you go from a sport that once touted itself as the second biggest spectator sport in the country to being one where 25% more people go to see Usain Bolt for 10 seconds than go for 3 hours of an SGP in Cardiff.

You mean the Leicester 2nd VII? :-D

Can anyone actually dig out a calendar, and put their finger on a date, at some point in time, when speedway was at it's "height"? The sport is said to be in decline new, it was in decline in 1981, according to Phillip Rising. According to Rob McCaffrey the sport has been declining since 46 years ago (1972) and according to Moxey63 it was just as bad in the 1950's. Just as a thought, the 1940's couldn't have been all that good either, what, with the war and all that. So, if you plot this line of decline on a graph, where does it begin and how close to zero are we now?

So we've signed Luke-Sky Walker, or whatever his name is. This is the National League. What did you expect? Tai Woffinden?
-
Not necessarily, but it does confirm that Brummies_Ste has been retained as official copier and paster of news onto BSF.

No he's not. He started well for a couple of months then tailed off. Went two steps forward then three steps back. He seems to be surrounded by a peer group (judging by his Facebook friends) who are the typical "Eye-beef-ah crowd" and his dip in form seems to have coincided with the time his mates were getting Brahms & Liszt and laid in the flesh pots in the sun whilgt he was getting bored washing his bikes at home.I don't think he's got the attitude and determinatioin to progress.

Does that apply after Cardiff too?
-
OR they look at the city of Coventry and think, "if this city can't house it's football team (that had to seek refuge in Northampton until Wasps Rugby Club gave them a lifeline) then what chance does speedway have in that city?" A spot of politically correct, multi-ethnic, all-inclusive, equalities and diversity appeasing "culture", anyone?

Tell that to Cradley fans.

Wow, that amazes me. Tax payers money being used for property speculation. Obviously no schools or hospitals to finance in those parts of the world then.
-
Stoke Potters, probably. They are usually the specialist receptical for old crocs.
-
Exactly why Cradley are the answer. If they can arrange for Richard Hall to get a 6.00 average then they will find a way to sign Liam Carr for a 1-7 that they don't have. This is British Speedway, after all.

All well and good the ACU requesting 2 places. The big question is whether the BSPA have reveresed their policy of handing out 28-day suspensions for riders taking part and only allowing teams with missing riders to use a NL guest in their place? There's nothing really connecting these two organisations, so whilst the ACU could be dangling a nice juicy carrot, the BSPA could yet wield a big stick to anyone who takes a bite. Still, maybe that won't affect those two really British riders, Tai Woffinden anc Robert Lambert, eh?

Went to Daugavpils a couple of years ago for a Lokomotiv fixture. Flew from Birmingham to Kaunas (Lithuania) with Ryanair and hired a car from there. It was about a 2 hour drive and the road was fine. We were back in Kaunas for tea. You nay find that the Kaunas flights have now been replaced with flights to/from Vilnius, but that's no great shakes. At £35{ish} each way, you can't argue. Weekend deals on car hire are also very affordable and diesel is cheap. The stadium is good and the racing is usually excellent there. Latvia and Lithuania have come a long way towards being up to western standards, and my two travelling companions and myself had a great time out there. Have fun

Is Hailsham financing the development itself though? I think you'll find that it'll be giving the green light for a private developer to do the donkey work. And if speedway was seen as such a big region regenerator then how come the sleepy hamlet of Brandon hasn't been transformed into the Las Vegas of Warwickshire over the past 50 years?

I'm sure that Rugby Council will love to have all the attractions and amieneties that they don't have to pay for in their area. I suspect that if you asked Rugby council to stump up THEIR tax payers money though, it would be a different story. There would be plenty of people on the Northampton side of the borough who would ask big questions about why their cash is being used to prop up a Coventry team rather than supporting the local health service etc. As for the date of the confirmation, I asked the same. Who knows? It might take as long again this time around as it took last year.

Get Cradley to sign him.

How's this for a new rule book then? Rule 1 - Poole can cheat. Rule 2 - Everyone else can play by the rules. Rule 3 - There can be no more rules.

We'll burn the bridges that the spilt milk flows under as we come to them...

Life's too short...

What you are basically saying is that you have to crack some eggs to make an omelette. The reaction you will get will depend on if a fan supports a team that makes up the egg yolk, or of it a fan of a team that makes up the egg shell that gets thrown away into the bin.

Use of Stadium/Speedway and it’s failing to win support

Wow. That's more than even the top Polish teams attract. OR do you mean it takes 18 meetings to accumulate a total of 20,000? If so, you're cheating as most will be the same people week after week.
