The tapes were the standard type at Peterborough last night.

You are not alone in feeling this way about rye, there are quite a few of us in the same boat. The lack of urgency in running meetings is a major irritant to me, along with the one line race track that has developed over the last couple of years. I enjoyed it more when Len was running the show!
-
The. Whole set up at rye has a 'take it or leave it' feel about it. If it's a repeat of last seasons 'racing' on concrete, I will be leaving it.

Charity Shield 2nd leg 22/03/18 Swindon - Belle Vue

Bloody freezing at the shabby Abbey last night. Still, a visit to the back straight bogs made it all worthwhile! -
You'd need a pneumatic drill to generate some dirt on the start line at rye house!
-
They should never have let wells go. He was decent last season.

I used to love the conference league era at iwade. Some excellent meetings, I rarely missed a match.
-
Quite possibly.
-
This is nothing new. Crayford used iwade for similar purposes back in the 1980's.
-
No chance of me going either. I'm more tempted to go to Eastbourne the following night.
-
Me too sid, one of my all time favourite tracks.
-
I used to have a 1998 Oxford race suit in my collection. It was so light and flimsy, and not really suitable for a whole seasons racing.
-
My first memory of Vaclav, was seeing him take on the concrete safety wall at Romford, and win!. A real tough rider who entertained us with his all action style. RIP Vaclav.
-
I used to have a few West ham and Wimbledon home meetings on tape from the 1970's. The commentary wasn't brilliant, but it was still listenable.
-
Nor can I. Who is going to foot the bill to bring the stadium up to scratch, for a sport that seldom makes a profit.
-
Ronnie made team riding an art form.
-
Ronnie Moore posted an impressive 10.34 average in his last full season for Wimbledon in 1972. Mirac was a real hero of mine, in my youth!
-
I remember reading that the series had been wiped years ago, and only short clips survive. How accurate this Is, I don't know.
-
Possibly to give fans plenty of time to get to lakeside in the evening, if they fancy it!

I used to love the annual do at high beech, it was a real pilgrimage. Paradise park is bigger with better facilities, but kings oak was the real deal. -
Steve was you one of those fans with the hose pipe at Wembley in 1975!. The British finals I went to at West ham and Coventry in the 70's were really tough meetings with top class line ups and massive crowds.

Romford's pre war team were a nomadic team, just like Boston and the current cradley. It doesn't give the sport a lot of credibility allowing made up sides to enter league racing.
-
In 2002 saddlebow road was the home to Boston, King's Lynn stars & kids teams. To update the topic, I have just picked up a silver 1936 Dagenham speedway trophy, won by the king of the 'daggers' Frank Hodgson. It will go nicely with my original badge from the same period.

Why didn't stadia UK build two new grandstands at smallmead, like what is being planned at Swindon. It had good road links and a perfectly shaped track. Surely better and cheaper than relocating to the proposed 'racino'.
