I'm surprised, but I can see the reasons. Keeping the regular race night is a must, plus having an all British team to keep the costs down is vitally important.

I agree, you have to specialize otherwise you will need to build a loft extension. The trick is being able to let go of stuff you have collected. I've found downsizing easy, but I can understand how difficult it can be for some collectors to let go of some of their treasured items!.

or the paramedic or ambulance won't turn up.

Going off topic, wasn't taffy Owen's track shop at Hyde road, the biggest and best in speedway. He certainly used to have a massive selection of stuff for sale in the grand old stadium.

I went to the IOW meeting at the Abbey. I thought the crowd was pretty decent for a NT match.

	More staff and more punters!

This Sums Up The State Of British Speedway For Me...cityrebel replied to Gresham's topic in Speedway News and Discussions in the 1970's and 80's, Wimbledon used to run a weekly supporters club night throughout the winter. These events were very well attended, and included a darts league and quiz nights. It's hard to imagine this kind of thing ever happening again.

the clocks go back as well. That means that the first match will be starting in near darkness.

I'm glad I don't have to make those decisions. The sport is in such a bad place, who knows if it can recover from years of neglect.
-
badges, race jackets and photos are my thing. I only collect programmes of meetings I go to.
-
Not too keen on a 4pm start for a double header. It could be going on until late evening!
-
Midweek meetings at arena have never been well attended. I can't see Monday or Thursday evenings being very popular either.

Yes, speedway collecting is still very popular, and some items fetch really good prices, especially on eBay. I have a very large London speedway collection, but I have been thinning it out since moving house a couple of years ago.

This Sums Up The State Of British Speedway For Me...cityrebel replied to Gresham's topic in Speedway News and Discussions My speedway career stems from 1968 to date. How would i sum up the present state of our sport. Two words, bloody awful!!!

I never saw any of it. I couldn't get out of the stadium quick enough, after what was, a very uncompetitive meeting.

I have to agree. I've been going for well over 40 years, and this has to be the worst season ever. Nearly every meeting i look at on updates seems to be a farce. I was at Eastbourne on Sunday, where mildenhall couldn't find a decent guest to ride at No.1 in a cup final. The problem is, I'm used to it now, and don't expect anything better.

No local derbies, no away fans, no TV money & a vastly increased outlay. The 2nd tier wouldn't appeal to cookie.
