  1. We'll make this the last one taken from the same meeting 27/03/1982.............
  2. Actually i was gonna say no Jeff taken from the home straight near the starting tapes but looking again I think you're right!. A great night's speedway always to be had at the Shay. Not for the faint hearted at all. I once saw a junior go over the fence and he ended up losing a leg in the accident. But a great race venue. For posterity's sake Shay#1 is the late Wayne Brown, Shay#2 is Reg Wilson.
  3. For all those not fortunate enough to have experienced the delights of the Shay, here and here are a couple of trips down memory lane, 1982 vintage.
  4. My pleasure; I just can't help myself............ Don't put the Hovis away just yet. An excellent summary, for those who didn't have the pleasure of seeing him ride Making me feel old now, but I guess there's no escaping reality. I took many photographs in the early-mid 80's and had the privilege of getting a bird's eye view from the centre green. Those were the days........
  5. ......and here's a picture of Mr Moran in typical full-throttle action, 1983 style. Entertainment+
  6. I quite agree. They were fun to watch and certainly have their place in a meeting like that but the meeting did go on quite a while. I wondered if the track was a little over watered at the interval but it was great to see a track with some dirt on! I'd never seen the track before last night but was quite impressed. Not sure of the size but it made Eastbourne look big in comparison! Looking forward to the WA State Championships on 6 December!
  7. I was also at Pinjar Park meeting AST, and said Mr Rivett certainly was spectacular and very eyecatching in his 'skeleton' kevlars. His riding belied his age and he seemed well at ease on the small circuit - a far cry from the vast expanse of the County Ground. Frank Smart also mastered the tight turns in spectacular fashion and it was good to see Dave Cheshire too.
  8. I'll go with White City too. I'd go a year earlier though at '78 (but a pure guess). I think I can see Ila Teromaa hiding behind Mike Lee. Some famous faces from years gone by there.................
  9. Why thank you. Taken at the mecca of speedway, the legendary Hyde Road............
  10. Shawn Moran - worker of miracles. Entertainer extraordinaire.
  11. Doug Wyer. Well they did used to call him Doug 'Flyer' Wyer............
  12. Couldn't agree more. Here's a picture of Mr Moran taken early (1981 I think!) in his Sheffield career.
  13. The long seats, typically used by riders from the old Eastern bloc countries.
  14. No he wasn't. He was much better than that.
  15. .......and here is a picture from said meeting of the victorious Mr Nielsen.............
  16. I believe Sheffield picture 76-1 is in fact Reg Wilson and not Arnie Haley. I seem to recall Reg had some red and white leathers like these around the time ('76). Also his right arm seems to bear the name "Bufton", being Reg's long time sponsor Bufton Electrics. I also think Arnie missed most of the '76 season after a horror smash at Owlerton against Belle Vue, one of the nastiest looking smashes I can recall seeing.
  17. I certainly do as he put in some sterling performances for the Tigers and I would have loved to have seen him back the following year. From memory I think it was the travelling that made this a non-starter.
  18. Indeed! - and here is said Mr Yeates leading the way at a dusty Hyde Road click here
  19. I believe Bob Paulson died in 1982
