Everything posted by south coast robin

  1. Seems a pity there are no teams in London now where it was a hotbed after the war pulling over 100,000 fans weekly
  2. The Robins team of the 6os/70s contained mostly British AND local lads who were proud to wear the Robin . Nowadays with the exception of Leigh Adams they don't seem to have the same commitment . There is very little passing after the second bend as well .
  3. Agree.. a massive catchment area , there is no speedway team in Hampshire.
  4. As Crumpie was born in Bristol we will have to make do with him as the only English born world champion for the foreseeable future !!
  5. The Millenium is an excellent venue for the Grand Prix
  6. yep Sotonian ,The Clash were the first punk band to hit Swindon in '76
  7. My favourites were Jimmy Squibb the only decent rider New Cross had when they closed in '63, Bjorn Knutssen at West Ham, and Barry Briggs at Swindon with Martin Ashby .Fundin and Mauger were 2 class riders but not faves as they were too good at beating the above !
  8. Paid 29 quid for Cardiff ticket..decent seat..decent view..decent fireworks..decent refreshment / toilet facilities..half decent entertainment..so will not be paying 25 quid to attend Reading final. Watched the semi-final at Blunsdon last year only 4000 turned out compared to 40000 at the Millenium..no comparison. Perhaps this is why crowds are dwindling at the league tracks ?
  9. Middlo is doing a good job as England were rated 3rd favourites in the qualifier, expected the Poles to win at home, and the Aussies have the BIG 2, Crumpie and Adams.Nicely poised for the home soil final. Was working in Sturmy last Friday popped into the warehouse for a chat ,you were out playing golf
