  1. Great photo and still no contact details for Hans Nielsen who may remember his Aussie tour in 1986 when he left the Godden max motor behind!!!!

    Will James

Will lives over here in Perth, Aus in winter(our summer). He has a cornish accent so must come from that part of the Country. He organises grasstrack meetings when in the UK and can be contacted on grasstrack.net web site via the forum. Hope this helps!
  3. Tony yes would like to come over but due to the gold mining boom here there are lots of jobs available which I would never have been selected for 5 years ago!! I have been in touch by email with ex Canterbury Bob Spelta who was touring Aus in a Camper van and also spoke to Steve Koppe a couple of years ago. Not sure if ex Hackney Steve Schofield is in Brisbane or Perth!
  4. Tony, I am extremely jealous as not mutch happening on this side of the Continent! John always looked like a hard man in black leathers and with long side burns, and with excellent riding skills! I,m sure he has mellowed and lost his hair like many of us! Interesting photos of Gordon Kennett though on Retro speedway site (photo sales) astride a Ducati road bike and looking like Bruce Willis!!!
  5. Hi Bryn , Is this happening in the West of Aus, where I am, or the East or somewhere else in the World. where is the Ekka track? I remember seeing John at Wimbledon and he was spectacular!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. I have seen a few Aborigine speedway riders in Australia. We have one here in Perth, called Sooty Pigram, who came from Broome in the tropical north and he is great entertainment value and a real tryer at the local track. He was quite a sensation at our last National Meeting.
  7. Or Peter Collins or even Sam Ermolenko! Maybe selectors should look beyond the square at Danish, Swedish, Polish Managers. (Not that disgraceful Polish man who ruined the Cardiff GP he was a ref of course!!
  8. I would really appreciate it if you could get contact details or give Hans my email address... absturmer@bigpond.com I,m in Perth, its the most isolated City in the World, any speedway restorations that can be guaranteed are always appreciated by the locals!!
  9. If anyone out there has Hans Nielsen contact details or can give him my address to contact me I would be grateful having restored one of his old bikes in Australia. Posting in years gone bye!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. I own a Hans Nielsen Godden Max number 4 engine 1986, which he must have left behind after an Aussie tour around that time, and the motor ended up with Guy Wilson in WA. It is now fully restored in a Jawa frame for exhibitions around Perth! If you are out there Hans or if anyone has his contact details please let me know. I have tried to make contact without success as I wanted to ask a question about this motor. Godden engineering did not respond and Mitch godden did not respond so Hans Nielsen, please make contact if you are there!!!!!!!!!
  11. One of the most entertaining riders of the 70s and early 80s .kept speedway firmly on the map in Canterbury.

  12. Roger Johns or his Brothers Alan, Peter. Roger was a good rider and a loyal Wimbledon servant! I havent heard anything about him since mid to late 80,s!!!!
  13. Have you featured Robert Henry the Mildenhall rider who was a good rider over 10 yrs . He had fun at Canterbury once when the referee refused to exclude a Canterbury rider for touching the tapes. It took a few helpers to stop him attacking the referee and he did have just cause for getting fired up. On that night in about 1984 he outshone Barney Kennett on and off the track!! He is currently the youth development officer at Mildenhall. He was an excellent rider!
  14. Derek Harrison with the specs and teddy boy style haircut. He rode at a number of tracks, mainly National League. He was very good at Mildenhall as top points scorer in 82 and 83 I think!! He also had a number of injuries.
  15. I will pass on your regards, Hec is one of the most approachable people I have met and he will be pleased that others remember him. He enjoyed his time in the U.K.
  16. He is Australian from Perth of Austrian parents. Hec is a really nice bloke who runs a garage business with his adult son in Perth. I meet him every so often, usually at international meetings in Western Australia. I can pass any info to Hec as its easy for me to pass by his place. Andrew in Perth WA.
  17. I remember Barney having punch ups with Kelvin when Rye house visited . Later as team mates they were polite to each other! Barney could take on all comers due to his size and strength, and the presence of Barney at a meeting meant there would be fireworks on and off the track ! Without Barney, the 70,s and early 80,s at Kingsmead would have been far less of the great spectacle it was ! I am of course a Barney Kennett fan and still have all the old photos, rosettes etc!!!
  18. In the crowd at Pinjar Park speedway last night(Saturday) ex stars included Peter Collins, Mike Lohman and Mick McKeon. Both Mike and Mick looked very fit, Peter had gained a few more pounds than the others!!! The Individual meeting was won by 43 year old Dave Cheshire, sorry dont have other results!
  19. I had a chat with Phil at a recent speedway meeting in Perth. He runs his own electrical business! He arrived on his Honda fireblade and has not changed since the 70,s and neither has Bob Humphreys who was with him at the meeting.
  20. Its a different intensity of heat here as the sun burns in 5 minutes and you should come to Perth on a 40 degree day to understand how it feels! I used to think it was hot in Spain till I came here! It drains you so much if working and even when not working you dont feel like doing anything! It has been 40 degrees centigrade still at 7 p.m. when racing begins! Thankfully on many days we have the fremantle doctor wind which blows up in the afternoon and cools things down, but the suns intensity remains!
  21. Hi Tony, have replied by email with details! Barry is still renovating houses around Neath in South Wales!
  22. For those who were unaware, Barry Thomas got married again on 1st November 2007. He is very happy!! If anyone wants an email address to send him a message , please let me know!
  23. I met Mitch Shirra earlier this year when he rode here in Perth at the Ron Johnson meeting at Pinjar Park. Mitch came across as a real character, full of energy as he had re buit a bike until 3 a.m. the night before the meeting, as his bike was stuck in Adelaide. The bike let him down in the meeting itself and with a reliable machine he would have reached the final! Everyone wanted to talk to him and at 47 yrs old he was at home talking to the juniors and the older fans! A true character, he has been rebuiding caravans in the Sydney area recently!
