Sorry to say but this was not true. I did not have an engine failure in my last heat. I had been participating in a touch football carnival all day friday and saturday before racing and I later in the night got tired due to this and made silly errors. I had no engine failures what so ever. -
The Farrell Transport New South Wales Solo team won both Test matches at Pioneer Park and Brandon Sports Reserve against the below strength Queensland team over the weekend. On Friday night the NSW team won the match 64-43 while on Saturday night they won 64-44. On Friday night Mitchell Davey from Townsville was the points hight scorer for the night with 21 points from seven undefeated rides. He should have had only six rides but was brought in as a tactical substitute for injured father, Gary to score the additional points. The father and son combination were being hailed as the team to beat for the locals but Gary Davey did not last a quarter of a lap in his opening heat. He made solid contact with Hugh Skidmore whose foot peg went through the spokes of Davey's front wheel causing a heavy fall. Davey was concussed and on Medical advice sat out the rest of the meeting. Davey junior shone for the locals with his 21 points almost half the total score on Friday night for the locals. Micky O'Connor was next best with 8 points, Scott McKenna 6, Steven Reid 4, Roy Stout 2, and reserve Ashley Cathcart 2 points. While the locals relied on Davey the NSW teams scores were better spread with a more consistent performance showing. Kozza Smith was their points high scorer with 16 points, Michael Slade the NSW Captain scored 12 points along with Daine Stevens, Richard Sweetman from four ride scored 10 points, Hugh Skidmore 7, Luke Slade 5 and reserve Ricky Wallace on 2 points. While Davey(Snr) was a casualty for the Queensland team Ricky Sweetman was a casualty for the NSW team in his fourth heat. He had a nasty fall that saw him unconscious for several minutes and Medic took the protesting youngster to hospital for observation. Long time Speedway followers believe the racing while of a high calibre was run on one of the coldest night ever seen at the Pioneer Park Speedway. Depending on who you spoke to the temperature ranged from zero to 2 degrees. On Saturday night the temperature was warmer and the hopes for improvement in the Queensland team were high but a 4-2 start to the NSW team in heat one was a sign of things to come. Mitchell Davey following a top night on Friday was expected to carry the home team again but machinery trouble a fully switched on NSW team saw him with 11 points from four rides. His own bike failed with mechanical trouble and he then rode his fathers bike with engine trouble also besetting it as well. In the second half of the night however he showed that with a bike that is working well he could get back to winning form winning his last three heats. Better performances by local Micky O'Connor 11 and Steven Reid 10 saw the local points shared around a little better than the previous night. Roy Stout scored 6 and Gary Davey who recovered from his fall on Friday scored 5 points. Davey had one memorable ride where he almost held off Daine Steven for the entire three laps but Steven got under him on the last corner to relegate him to second with Luke Slade in third. Son Mitchell didn't get off the line in that race as the bike cut out on the line as the tapes flew for the start. With severe concussion from the previous night, Ricky Sweetman stood aside for the NSW team allowing James Bevan into the team. Bevan and Captain, Michael Slade were matched together and claimed 20 points between them in the NSW total of 64 points. Slade scored 12 and Bevan 8. Kozza Smith proved the top points scored again for the NSW team with 16 points while his partner Hugh Skidmore scored 11 points. Daine Stevens and Luke Slade were the final pairing for NSW and them totalled 17 points between them with Stevens on 13 points and Slade on 4. This now gives the Peter White Managed teams with three series clean sweeps in three years. The Farrell Transport NSW team proved this year that experience at a higher level is of benefit to the team, with one of the Team being just signed to ride in England and another signing to ride in Europe. The Queensland team was missing Ricky Barney with a broken collar bone and Josh Grajczonek who was on holiday in England. Scott McKenna was also not at his best still recovering from a trip home from England, having arrived home on Thursday. Local officials are confident that the Young Queensland team with more experience can match it with NSW next year. Heat Results for teams match is as follows: Pioneer Park Speedway QLD - 43 1. Scott McKenna 0,3,0,1,0,2 = 6 2. Steven Reid 1,1,1,0,2,1 = 5 3. Mitchell Davey 3,3,3,3,3,3,3 = 21 4. Gary Davey Fell, Did not compete anymore 5. Michael O'Connor 2,2,2,1,0,0,1 = 8 6. Meeting Report - 16th June, 2007 - Posted 20 June, 2007 The crowd at Pioneer Park on Saturday night were treated to some very good racing with over 55 events run and won. The night was the first for two months and top class nominations saw the competitive racing that followed. While Sidecars were the top shelf, the battle for spots in the Queensland team in the upcoming Solo Test match ensured that the Solos were full of interest and did see some very close racing. A slip on turn four in round 4 of the "A" Solos saw Ayr's Ricky Barney come down in a spectacular crash which will see Barney out of action for at least 8 weeks. The oldest Solo rider on the night in the "A" section at 19 years old, Barney will now miss the Interstate Test match series between New South Wales and Queensland set down for July 20 and 21 at Pioneer Park and the Ayr Motorcycle club complex. Barney and Mitchell Davey had been the dominate riders on the program in the "A" Solos with Davey beating Barney in their first clash and Davey again ahead when Barney crashed. Barney was in pain even though it was initially thought he was winded, but closer examination by the Medical staff saw Barney taken to Ayr hospital. With Barney out of the final it was expected that Mitchell Davey should win. Josh Gracjzonek had other ideas as while Davey lead for the first two of the four laps, Gracjzonek took over into turn one on the third lap and looked set for a good win. A chain came adrift on the last two turns allowing Davey to pass and claim the win with Steven Reid in second and Ashley Cathcart in third with Gracjzonek coasting across the line for fourth. Aaron Stewart who has just turned 16 was having his first ride as a senior in the "B" Solos and won his first heat ride and then the "B" Final. Stewart was a busy rider on the night as he was passenger for Rob Patterson in the Sidecars as well. Australian Sidecar No 2. Gary Moon had to over come an indifferent night and was lucky to qualify for the final but once there was very impressive in winning the event. The Final which was equal to any major final saw current Australian No 2 in Moon and Dennis with Current Australian no 3, Scott Christopher and Trent Koppe a former Australian No3 in Dave Bottrel and Ayr pairing of Jason and Joel Aldridge. Bottrel won the start but Moon was out wide with The Aldridge combination diving in to the pole line to be in second going down the back straight the first time. Moon took over the lead on the bottom turn and while Bottrell and Christopher challenged Moon had their measure to win from Christopher and Bottrel in third. A lot of interest was created with the appearance of two 350cc Solos ridden by youngsters Clinton Dennis and Jesse Tuffin. The bikes are similar in all dimensions to the 500cc machines except for the smaller 350cc engine. Dennis has in resent times been campaigning the bike in New South Wales where there are greater numbers of the bikes, with good results to his credit. Dennis got into early trouble in the "A" Final of the Juniors and had to settle for second behind Tyler Moon and Dylan Blain in third. In the "B" junior Solo final, Michael Detenon looked set for his first major win but a momentary laps in concentration on the last turn allowed Jake McLean under him to claim the win.
