The story of the 1st GP ?
Vincent Vega replied to gillam's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
It seems like Tony Rickardson knocks someone off on the first bend i.e. Gollob and the ref and all the so called pundits reckon it is first bend bunching!!!! rubbish if that was any other rider they would have been excluded. Millard was dead right the REF BOTTLED IT. Cue Mr Shovlar defending the decision. -
Cagey have u any latest developments on the purchase of the Station Rd site??
-
I remember the guy you are talking about. In 1991 when Arena won the treble one of their last away meetings was at Station Rd and Andy Galvin had a coming together with Jan Staechmann. When Galvini beat Stekkers he was popping wheelies after the race and winding the Long Eaton fans up. This geezer was flicking the Vs at the Arena boys so I made a few comments in his direction he gave it back and we ended up shaking hands and agreeing to disagree. Hopefully if Long Eaton are revived again he will be back aswell.

Iris what about a Wimbledon all time fantasy team. Ronnie Moore Barry Briggs Tommy Jansson Todd Wiltshire Dave Jessup Malcolm Simmons John Davis

What fond memories do other supporters have of Station Road. I went past there the other day and it brought back memories of past meetings I have witnessed at Long Eaton. The best was probably Long Eaton v Hackney in 1988 when Andy Galvin knocked Darrell Brandford and Mike Spink on the pits bend and Brandford got excluded!!!!! Do any Invaders fans remember this meeting?

Having watched Wimbledon for many years and seen a lot of meetings at Plough Lane the best visiting riders I saw were Dennis Sigalos in the British League days and Andy Galvin and Steve Schofield in the National League days.
-
London Cup at Plough Lane 1989 Wimbledon 47 Hackney 43. Neville Tatum falls and gets excluded. In the Re-Run Andy Galvin gives Todd Wiltshire a nudge and Todd lays the bike down expecting Galvini to get excluded. The ref may have been Mr Ebdon cant remember excludes Todd and Galvin and Tagg cruise round for a 5-0 and the Kestrels win 48-47

Main Man did you bump into the bundy drinking chain smoking welshman on your trip to Oz Mr B Williams esq?? -
Scoie was another great rider to watch especially his 2 seasons at Hackney in 1989-1990 with Galvini best rider in the NL at that time.
-
Werbie the History of Hackney video which can be purchased from Re-Run videos should do the trick.
-
Has to be Andy Galvin when he was at his best I lost count the number of times he would come out of the gate last and be leading by the end of the first lap around Waterden Road. Come to think of it from 1988-1990 was probably the most exciting rider in the old NL.

Can anyone with any breaking news from the booze up in Tenerife please post them here thanks.

Running before we can walk???

Just got back from Gothenburg completely agree with the sentiments of Mr Hone, Sean etc getting a refund not bothering with going to the restaging. I see Waggy still wants to go ahead with Oxford v Poole next Friday. -
Does anyone else think Middlo will step down as England TM? He has been in the job 3 years and has been unlucky with injuries every time the WTC has come around. If he did decide to just concentrate with being TM down at Poole who would you like to see given the job next year. I think Ronnie Russell would be a good choice.

I see Dave Norris has made the 5 man squad for the world cup congrats floppy you deserve it.

Has to be the King Kelvin Tatum

What is the most unexpected performance you lot have seen by a rider at any tracks up and down the country over the years. I remember back in 1995 Arena v Eastbourne KO Cup. Friday night at Arena Robert Ledwith terrible performance. Next night at Eastbourne his engine blew whilst he was warming his bike up in the pits. He borrowed Josh Larsens spare bike and promptly scored a 12 point maximum!!!!! He beat the master of arlington Mr Dugard in his last race who knocked Ledders off after the race. Never knew if it was intentional or not. Wonder what old Mr Ledwith is up to these days?

It is sad seeing the Great Galvini b4 injury one of Englands best prospects scoring 0 at Reading and Lynn.
-
The best comeback I ever saw was at the County Ground in 1991. Exeter were 27-9 up v Arena after 6 heats. Arena went on to win the match 46-44!!!!

Does anyone know what happened to Ivan Henry. The last I remember was after the debacle at the London Stadium when he promoted there with Terry Russell in 1996 the next season he moved to Kings Lynn and promoted the Stars with Buster Chapman in 1997. I always remember Ivan for his days at Arena when he was still acting as mechanic for Bo Petersen even though he was co promoter. It would be great to see him back involved in the sport.
-
Agreed BA. Who was your fav rider at Hackney?
-
The best ever 1-7 in speedway has to be the Arena 1991 side. 1. Brian Karger 2. Troy Pratt 3. Alan Mogridge 4. Bo Petersen 5. Andy Galvin 6. Paul Hurry 7. Colin White This team won the treble that season. The only other side that comes close was the Hackney 1988 Double winning team.
