2009 Grand Prix Competition
Robbie B replied to ballinger's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Hi Ron, thanks for doing this competition and my team is 4 - Greg Hancock £45,000 5 - Hans Andersen £45,000 6 - Leigh Adams £45,000 (Capt) 10 - Fredrik Lindgren £30,000 15 - Emil Sayfutdinov £25,000 -
Hi Rico, you're right about the colon I didn't see it, I must get some glasses. But I do hate the use 'Team GB' also, might be just me, I much perfer just plain Great Britain If Joonas Kylmakorpi is fit and rides Finland might have a chance, otherwise I think the Czech Republic will do the business.

Thanks for the info DutchGrasstrack, but why can't the teams be called USA, Czech Repulic, Finland and Latvia, instead of having the word Team in front of them I'm not having a go at you, but they the use this word in the UK as well, it just sounds so silly to me putting that word in front of the countries names, we never used to use it, just following the Americas I'm affraid. Shame that there's no Dutch team entered, I remember Rudy Muts and Henny Kroeze from the past, both very good riders.

Got my issue last Friday, excellent read again Tony. Many thanks

Streaming Tv For All Speedway
Robbie B replied to cuorelibero's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
If anyone got problems translating these Polish pages (http://www.tvp.pl/sport/zuzel/centernet-mo...straliga/cennik) Easy solution for you. Install IE 8 with the Windows Live toolbar (which has a translation button on it (at the far right end side), you get a spilt screen, one side of the screen is in Polish and the other side is in English). Hope that this helps anyone. -

Wimbledon main grandstand (child's admission) including the programme 50p, in 1976. It was cheaper at the non-grandstand entrance, but can't what 35p or 40p. Roughly the same price at White City & Hackney, if I remember. Can't remember Crayford's admission price though. Happy days, could go along to two or three meetings a week, somtimes to four venues .
-
Thanks JC, I have all the Backtrack mags, I have a look through them too see. Your right JC from issue 23 there's been 'Taking The Mic' about announcers, I really must get some new glasses.
-
Thanks Ron it must have been one of those days I did mean 'Wright Wood'.
-
Yes Shazzybird, cameramen from all different tracks. And maybe something on the Track Announcers as well.
-
I remember White City's first meeting still. It was my first ever Wimbledon away meeting, and also first sight of Tommy Jansson racing in the flesh. He definitely had some excellent races with Gordon Kennet that night. Shame the 'Dons' didn't win though. I remeber seeing Gordon Kennett on the Blue Peter TV programme racing ariound the track with a camera n his helemt. But one thing always puzzled me, why did they give the race times in the second using 100th of a second, when they use 10th of a second in the main meeting. I went there many times over the years. Speedway was cheap then, and I would often use to go two or threes times a week, to Crayford & Hackney also, but I always was a 'Dons' supporter, but I loved my speedway. I also went to many greyhound meetings there when I was older as well. I still can't beleive that the stadium was knocked down for a BBC carpark .

Thanks also to iris123 who gave me second half details of four Wimbledon home meetings.

Web page has now been updated. Many thanks once again Derek, for the information.
-
I didn't that you were Derek Barclay the former Wimbledon programme editor. Do you want me to use your proper name or the Parsloes name on my site?
-
Many many thanks Parsloes 1928 nearly for the info, will put on website and give you a mention as promised. Brendan's name always strange spellings, at some tracks. Shame that he retired early in his career.
-
Tony Could you do an item on the cameramen of speedway, the people who bring our sport to life, with their excellent pictures (Wood-Wright, Alf Weedon, Mike Patrick, Trevor Meeks, etc). And also how technology has changed the way speedway pictures are now taken, over previous years.
-
Thanks Tony & Suzy, another excellent magazine
-
I do remember the TV cameras being there, with their big Ooutside Broadcast trucks outside the stadium. The meeting was shown on ITV's 'World of Sport' the following Saturday afternoon.
-
Many thanks for looking for the programme for me, Parsloes 1928 nearly.

It would be great to a test series again , against any nation, speedway could do with it. But with the GP series now so long nowadays, I doubt it will ever happen again, mores the pity .

Thursday 1 May 1980 Wimbledon, the very first test match between England and the USA, it ended up 54-54, brilliant racing all the way through the meeting. England 54 Chris Morton 12, John Louis 11, Peter Collins 11, Michael Lee 9, John Davis 7, Malcolm Simmons 4, Kenny Carter (res) 0, Les Collins (res) 0 USA 54 Scott Autrey 15, Bruce Penhall13, Bobby chwartz 8, Ronnie Preston 8, Dennis Sigalos 7, Steve Gresham 3, John Cook (res) & Larry Kosta (res) did not ride A fair result, as much as I wanted England to win, speedway was the winner that day. I was at the meeting on the 3rd & 4th bends in the wooden boxes on the stairs, with my Union Jack (couldn't get a Cross of St.George anywhere) Test series sponsored by 'Durex'. Shame ITV don't repeat the meeting.
-
Glad that you like my website, and for your kind words, Lejon. Did take a bit of work, but well worth the effort. I will be expanding the site, by putting loads more result details about 1976, once I have finshed doing the current pages. Robbie B

Hi everyone on the forum. I have nearly completed a Wimbledon speedway website, deicated to my first season as a speedway supporter, in 1976. I have put loads of stuff on there, for everyone too see, including a special five-page tribute to Tommy Jansson. But I still require scans, if anyone got them of the following speedaway programmes; 1973 & 1975 World Pairs Finals, and the 1976 World Longtrack Final. Please send any items to robert.browne@hotmail.co.uk undefined The website address is www.wimbledonspeedway1976.com Visit My Website Hope you like it. Please leave any comments on the forum here, of what you think of it.

Roger is a true Legend of Wimbledon speedway, giving many years of great service, to the club. I still remember his great cut-backs on the 3rd-4th bends, of the last lap of the race, he caught out many a great rider, including Ole Olsen.
