  1. I like to ask Briggo what period in his speedway career did he enjoy riding in the most, the 50s, 60s or 70s. Also I remember his brilliant piece of action at Wimbledon, on the 19th August 1976, when Mike Curoso fell in front of him going round the 1st & 2nd bends, in the second half, and somehow Briggo managed to not only lay his bike down, but also lift his front wheel over Mike's crash helmet at the same time, thus avoiding a more serious accident. It said in the following week Wimbledon programme, that Mike Curoso helmet had tyre marks on, I dread to think what might had happened if Briggo never managed to lift his front wheel in time. The best bit of speedway riding skill I've ever seen. Briggo is a true Wimbledon and speedway legend.
  2. Why is it , that in this years GP series Poland, Sweden and now Denmark get two GP's, yet in Great Britain we always only have one ?
  3. Many thanks Britmet The 1971 & 1973 programmes came out OK, many many thanks. I forgot to add the programmes below to list of scans required. 1973 World Pairs Final 1975 World Pairs Final
  4. Does anyone have the following speedway programmes, that they could send scans copies of the front covers to me. It' s for a website that I'm buliding and I cannot find copies of these programmes anywhere. 1971 World Speedway Final (Gothenburg, Sweden) 1973 World Speedway Final (Chorzow, Poland) 1976 World Longtrack Final (Marianske Lazne, Czechoslovakia) My email address is robert.browne@hotmail.co.uk Many thanks for any help in advance.
  5. Mike, glad that you won the eBay auction for the Speedway Stars. You'll find that in the Swden vs U.S.S.R. match some heat details are wrong, with regards Tommy Jansson's races. These are the correct details. Friday 29 June (Daily Mirror International Tournament) (Hackney) Sweden 49 Bengt Jansson 12, Anders Michanek 12, Bernt Persson 7, Christer Sjosten 7, Tommy Jansson 5, Christer Lofqvist 5, Olle Nygren 1 U.S.S.R. 29 Vladimir Gordeev 13, Anatoli Kuzmin 5, Vladimir Zaplechny 5, Oleg Dzjadick 3, Gregori Chlinovsky 3, Aleksander Pavlov 0, Georgi Ivanov 0 Heat 3 Dzjadick, T.Jansson, Persson, Zaplechny (ef) 66.6 Heat 5 Persson, Kuzmin, T.Jansson, Gordeev (I don't have time for this heat - someone on forum might) Heat 9 Gordeev, Persson, T.Jansson, Ivanov 66.0 Heat 12 B.Jansson, Zaplechny, T.Jansson, Ivanov 66.8 Cearns & Carol Hawkins in the back of my mind somewhere, just won't come too me. They could do with a tournament like this on national TV now, such a great shame that it won't happen.
  6. Really they should scrap the GP nominations, and bring back the GP Challenge Round (they have one for the World Longtrack GP Championship). The bottom eight riders from the GP series, then race against the top eight from the GP Final qualifier, with the top eight riders into the GP series next season (no Wildcards). All this nonsense that a certain number of riders from each country must in the GP's, makes a mockery of it. If your good enough to qualify, then you should be in the GP's, if your not, then you should try again next year.
  7. In the Final, the number 8s for England & Sweden were Dave Jessup & Bengt Larsson, both riders did not get a ride though.
  8. Hi Mike The 1973 Speedway Star issues, that you require are July 7, July 14 & July 21. Hope that helps. Robbie B Just looked on eBay, full set of July 1973 on there for 70p start price. List is below. ONLY ONE DAY TO GO http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MOTORCYCLE-SPEEDWAY-...id=p3286.c0.m14
  9. What info do you want ?, I do have all Speedway Stars mags from 1973. which covers all details of this tournament.
  10. Nicholls, Lindgren, Holder and Sajfutdinov, will be the four nominated GP riders. But scrap the 'Wildcard' and add another rider instead. Wildcards have been a complete waste of time this year. It's better to have 16 riders competing for the World Championship. Then you could add Chris Harris or Pavlic instead.
  11. Can anyone inform me of the dates that the 1970 Young England Vs Young Sweden test series took place. Thanks for any help in advance.
  12. Your a absolute star iris123 Many Many Thanx
  13. Has anyone got the second half details from the following 1976 Wimbledon home meetings. Vs Ipswich - Monday 19th April (GBL League Match) Vs Birmingham - Thursday 29th April (Speedway Star KO Cup) Vs Sheffield - Monday 30th August (GBL League Match) Vs Exeter - Thursday 21st October (GBL League Match) (this league match was postponed the previous week, but used the same league match programme) I cannot remember why I did not fill in the second half details in these matches, it's a long time ago. Many thanks for any help in advance.
  14. My idea on this forum a few months ago, and printed in Speedway Star magazine a few weeks ago, where the top five average non-GP riders in Britain, Poland and Sweden, along with the reiging World Under 21 Champion, would race against the bottom seven GP riders in one qualifying round would work, bercause it would give all riders a chance of qualifying for the GP series.
  15. It just goes to show what pressure the Swedish team is under, when Rickardsson does something like this. Could not beleive that he was not excluded.
  16. It just seems daft to me that no team is allowed to have a reserve rider. What happens if a rider is ruled because of a injury during the meeting ?. Also this joker is totally biased against the team that is leading, as they have no chance of using one. I think it should either be scrapped, or all teams are allowed a joker to use when they desire. The Brits were totally AWESOME last night

  21. I do have to agree with Andy M, their should be some kind of qualifaction for the GP series. BSI, will just make sure that each major speedway nation has more or less the same number of qualifiers, each season, leaving riders like David Norris out in the cold. I don't think that BSI would pick him to go into the GP's, despite his performance at Cardiff last year. The only other way that I thought would work is, that the top three in the averages in the leagues mentioned above, would then meet the bottom seven riders in the GP series, and then hold a traditional 20 heat meeting, with the top seven riders then going through to the GP series.
  22. Her is a copy of a letter that I sent to Speedeway Star magazine, hopefully it will be in this weeks letters page. With regards the qualification of the riders for the 2006 Grand Prix series. It seems strange to me and other speedway supporters that I have spoken too, that there is no direct way of riders to qualify for the 2006 GP series, with riders most likely being nominated by Benfield Sports International and the FIM. But I have thought of a way that could change all this, and would require just one speedway meeting to give riders a chance of qualifying for the 2006 GP series. My idea is, the bottom eight riders from the 2005 GP series, would race in a meeting like the old GP challenge, with twenty-four riders. These eight GP riders would then meet the top five non-GP riders in the averages from the British Elite League, Swedish Elite League and the Polish Extraleague, with the final place going to the rider who wins the World Under 21 Championship. Eight riders would then qualify from this meeting for the 2006 GP series. Obviously some riders do ride in more then one country; in this case, the British Elite League would take president over the Swedish Elite League followed by the Polish Extraleague. For instance if Mark Loram finished in the top five no-GP positions in all three leagues, he would only qualify as the British Elite League representative, with his place in the Swedish and Polish leagues going to the next non-GP rider in line. To make it completely fair to all riders, a rider must have ridden in at least 60% of his team’s total amount of league matches in any league, by a specific date, for example the 1st September, to qualify for the top five non-GP averages. The 60% mark would allow for any injuries that a rider might sustain, and also make sure that a rider does not ride just six or seven league matches to obtain a high average to qualify. This system would give all non-GP riders something to aim for during the league season, and would ensure that the best riders in the world would contest the 2006 GP series. It would be very interesting to see what Benfield Sports International, and other speedway supporters think of my idea. I did email Benfield Sports Internation, last Friday but so far I have had no reply. Please let me know what you think of my idea.
