It's one of sports undying qualities that after a relatively close meeting where both teams could have won that the losing supporters blame luck, cheating, circumstance and, typically, their own team's poor form. It's always difficult to win away from home in Speedway, to do so you have thoroughly deserved it. I note the same thing is happening on the Leicester v Somerset thread.

Ludvig Lindgren (he's Fine Before You Worry!)
idanthyrsus replied to SCB's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
To quote the rule in full Therefore, at the time of declaration Ludvig would have given absolute priority to British Speedway Fixtures. But at the time that the fixture was re-arranged according to the letter of the rule above then he needn't give absolute priority as Newcastle aren't (re) declaring their team. It is also clearly Wolves who would have to drop Lindgren as if Ludvig were unable to ride for Newcastle he wouldn't "be in a Premier League's currently Declared 1-7". Secondly, I'd argue that the rule above would break EU trading laws as it is clearly a restriction on a person's right to trade and would therefore be considered illegal if challenged. Thirdly, simply stating "FACT" after your statement does not make it true. Bit of a dogs dinner isn't it? just to clarify the bit about speeding, travelling at 71mph you would not get convicted due to the innacuracy of the recording equipment. That is why they have a tolerance of 10% +2, so you have to be travelling at 80mph (i.e. above 79mph) on a 70mph to actually get convicted. Edited due to automated thing which transfers b ) to -
Berwick V Newcastle - Live On Sky - May 21st
idanthyrsus replied to luluthetiger's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Pearson said he was _initially_ signed on a one month loan. I think he then said it had been extended. when "pretty but dim" interviewed him he said he signed for Berwick because one meeting a week in the Elite League wasn't enough. -

If anything, Paul Starke going down seemed to spur on Newcastle. The phrases "Epic Failure" and "Shooting yourself in the foot" spring to mind. Nice to hear unequivocal condemnation from Chris Louis though. Wonder what Kelvin would have said.... Interesting to hear Richie talking about the atmosphere in the pits being a bit quiet, even at that stage it was still close. Not a bad meeting, but unfortunate that easily the best heat of the night in heat 13 was cut short because Kozza went to hot into the slick part of the bend. -

Here's what you should have said to my original question: Blobby, Blobby, Blobby.... All tongue in cheek of course -

Thanks for the deep and thoughtful insight there Mr Blobby I now know exactly why there were no wins from gate one Although, what can one expect from Mr Blobby? Does this mean I can now expect a bucket of goo to be deposited on my head? -

I only followed the match on the excellent Newcastle Live Updates, but it was noticeable that there were no heat wins from gate one and (from memory) eight from gate four. Anybody who was there got any views? Not meant to be a criticism about Glasgow's track, just a query as there have been people following both teams who have said how fair the track was and how it was possible to pass and it seems a bit strange! -

Which is entirely wrong When the green lights are initially turned on they will be under the Starting Marshall's orders. i.e. stationary. If they move at this point then the referee should exclude that rider for not following the Starting Marshall's instructions. The rider is only allowed to move once the tapes have risen. Normally, the ref's bottle it and just give the rider a "warning" for moving at the starts. The clever ones wait until the rider who is moving has to stop to avoid touching the tapes and then raise the tapes. This is a natural way of keeping the riders stationary. The referee is under no compunction to release the tapes at any time and theoretically could keep the riders their for a minute until he releases the tapes. The only requirement is a minimum of 1 and a 1/4 seconds until the tapes rise I believe. -

And here was me thinking that a rider must be stationary at the start. 15.3.2 "Once satisfied all Riders are correctly positioned, their motorcycles stationary and the rear wheel in contact with the track surface" -
So it's Richie Worrall's fault somebody shouted at him "I hope your dead" is it? Ah, it's Newcastle fans fault now is it? Perhaps it would be easier if people stopped trying to defend the indefensible? Sad as it may seem, we are getting closer and closer to segregated fan enclosures. I hope it never happens, but it seems inevitable.

Late 80's I believe. The reason it was done away with (IMO) was that the top riders didn't face each other enough. This was compensated for by having a "proper" second half with heat leaders competing against each other in things like the Silver Helmet. This was found to cause too many injuries to the top riders, so the 15 heat formula was introduced, which was kind of a half-way house with every rider facing every other rider over the course of the meeeting. There has also been 16 and 18 heat formulas (really didn't like the 18 heat formula) but I think the 15 heat formula is the one I prefer.

Don't bring the 13 heat formula back. It was abandoned for a reason. My proposal would be that there should be less change in teams each year. Because of the points values then each team, be it successful or not, has to be broken up each year and new riders signed. It would be surely be cheaper if riders could be brought in for several years, with the knowledge that the vast majority of the riders could be retained without having to break up the team each year. The league winners will have added several points to their team average, so will have to break up the team. Instead of using hard averages, use softer averages, for example, allow each team upto three Class A riders, whose average is above 7.5 or two class a Riders whose average is above 8, with three class B riders whose average is between 4 and 7.5 / 8 and then two reserves whose average is less than four. Allow a team to remain unchanged from the previous year or a rider who remains with his team to remain with his class as originally signed. That way the expense of putting together a new team, signing riders, signing on fee, re-negotiating contracts, etc, etc is done away with. Allowing the promoters to be sure of how much they are going to fork out for the team. Just thoughts, don't get too angry
-
Perhaps the change needed is to stop paying riders by the points they score. Why not just pay riders a salary like every other sport? They could be awarded a "bonus" for points scored on top of that, but the majority of their pay would be salaried. That way it's much easier for promoters to budget for costs in advance as they aren't changing every week. Would also help assemble a team at a cost they _know_ they could afford. It's an interesting idea, but I can't see it working in reality.

If KD has driven fans away then that is the reason why Workington Speedway is now struggling. Most people don't realise the difference between running a business and running a leisure activity. People have to go to work, but they don't have to go and watch speedway. If you treat your fan base with utter contempt then that will come back and hurt you. In essence KD has taken a thriving business and turned it into a loss making enterprise by alienating his customers. He is now blaming the fans for not turning up! Query: Will all those fans he's banned be welcome to turn up at the next meeting?
