He rode for New Cross in the first match I ever saw. 11 May 1960, a Britannia Shield match against Norwich. He won his first race (Heat 4) and became my instant hero. At the time, he was New Cross reserve but, of course, later went on to become one of England's leading riders, qualifying for the 1965 World Championship final. It's a fantastic little feature and really captures how different life was in the mid-70's compared to now. And then, of course, there was his recording career…… Reg was in the first race I ever saw, in September 1960 so a little later than you. I looked it up and he fell in that race riding with Split Waterman against Ronne Moore and Jim Tebby of Wimbledon.
