Happy 90th Reg

Today is Reg Luckhurst's 90th birthday. He rode for New Cross in the first match I ever saw. 11 May 1960, a Britannia Shield match against Norwich. He won his first race (Heat 4) and became my instant hero. At the time, he was New Cross reserve but, of course, later went on to become one of England's leading riders, qualifying for the 1965 World Championship final.

And then, of course, there was his recording career……

Coincidentally I happened to stumble across an 18 minute BBC film of his last ever meeting on YouTube last night.  If you put 1975 Reg Luckhurst speedway rider BBC archive into your search engine you should find it.

It's a fantastic little feature and really captures how different life was in the mid-70's compared to now.

Reg comes across as a lovely, sincere bloke.
