Any idea when an assessed average of 5pts for Lee will be confirmed?

No. It was mentioned early on with his signing that we had something like 7.5 points, and someone mentioned Lee's average would be assessed as 5.00. It sounds about right given the time he has been out, and his capability if he gets his fitness and nerve back. We will see.

The problem I have is that, as far as I know, he hasn't slid a bike competitively in 10 or so years. Things have moved on quite a lot set up and track wise in that time. Whereas James was at least riding grasstrack during his speedway layoff, which made the transition relatively easier. I hope Lee can pick up where he left off, but I fear he might find it tougher than James did.

I think he appeared at Sunny about September,21 time for a practice session. Since then he I think concentrated on weightloss and getting his body fit for racing.  I believe he has two top engines from Sean Wilson. He should now be  getting back on track to get race ready and accustomed to his new equipment for the new season..

I think it's the perfect scenario for the initial meeting on a brand new track, then one or two "open" meetings.

Build up to league racing in 2023 with your official return!

Quite agree. Getting an important meeting under their belt will give them some faith, and allow them to build on that and continue work on the spectator facilities. Great time to have a meeting IMO.

Could even ask the Edinburgh folk if they’d fancy using there equipment to stream Newcastle on sundays..income for both if it were possible .?

How would that work ? Looking at the picture in the Star this week, they seem to use a permanent mixing deck located above the front stand at the Edinburgh track.

The issue could be that alongside a largely unknown quantity at reserve was going ro be James Wright who would be one of the leagues strongest reserves and would have been available to cover rides for any of the 1-5 who are struggling (specifically Complin). Now its an unknown and a returning unknown at reserve which further weakens the makeup of the side.

Conversely if Lee, who I think has been given a assessed 5 point average, if he hits form from the start he will still be very handy to have at reserve for taking others rides. If a 5.00 it make us start understrength again by 1.51.

I haven't noticed the all important parking area on any pics...

....there won't be as many 'walk up fans' able to attend at this new facility...so hopefully plenty of parking space.

I think they are developing the site in the best way. Start with the track, then the buildings, standing and seating areas,  and then the add ons such as parking and services.

I think you will find that the infamous Pirates didn't take kindly to moving off their traditional Wednesday race night, which is I guess almost engrained into every Poole residents calendar.  They will be happy with any night as long as it is a Wednesday.

Too many clubs on a Friday ............ who says ?

We have Edinburgh and Glasgow running on Fridays ( a most bizarre situation )

Do Poland seem to have too many clubs on a Sunday ?

Do Denmark too many clubs on  Wednesday ?

    Do  Sweden  .... etc etc.

Time the blinkered promoters allowed tracks to run on nights where they can make most money , not for the convenience of other Friday night tracks.  Promoting British Speedway  is not the description  I would use for  Rob Godfrey ( unless it's promoting his own club)

    You forgot Redcar.

Must just be ‘cos you’re a Geordie  Our Sunday meeting there just last year couldn’t have been any better an atmosphere where we stood… and that included the Redcar fans saying we deserved more then we got that day!

Sad thing is a few years ago you had a fallout with Berwick, and for a couple of years you were welcomed by us at Newcastle. Rather ironic that you childishly slag off the Diamonds fans which for a short time you were one of them.

Probably only cos you have a common enemy, us at Newcastle. Quite sad.

Depends on where you stand, anywhere near the Bar is asking for abuse from the "supporters" there, notice the word used was not Fans.

Before the lockdowns, we used to stand in the 2nd temporary stand with some Redcar supporters and had some great 'debates' and laughs together.

Usually stand in the gap in front of the refreshments bar now, and that's because we meet other Diamonds fans and with Bears fans. Usually if you give it back respectfully, you can get a great atmosphere. I feel quite at home at Redcar, but last year we had someone cleaning the refs windows during a meeting, now there's a first. Wonder who he was ? :D

Genuine question that somebody can hopefully answer for me.

Why are Dan & Joe Thompson never involved in team GB training camps for under 23 riders ? Riders that finished well below them in the averages like Jason Edwards , Dan Gilkes , Jordan Palin & even Ben Trigger was invited to the latest one but no sign of Dan & Joe?

Trigger seems to get everywhere. Palin is a better rider than both twins.

Chillingham Road Metro station is nearer than Byker and you don't have to walk up Byker Hill to get to the top of the Fosse-Way,

you can pick up the No.1 Coaster to Whitley Bay from the Central Station which goes down the Fosse way  but watch out there is

also a No.1 Stagecoach bus but that goes no where near Brough Park.

Yes, but whilst Chris will be walking nearer to the track, the Metro will have continued on to  the Chilly Road Metro. Obviously quicker for both journeys to get off and later get on at the Byker Metro station.

I am thinking of visiting Newcastle speedway this year. I would travel by train from London to Newcastle and then use the Tyne and Wear Metro to Byker. How long a walk is it from Byker Metro station to the track and with a 4pm start what would the latest finishing time be?

Many thanks for any help anyone can give me.

Hi Chris and pleased you fancy a trip to God's country. :D

The Byker Metro station is just less than a mile away, and a good direct road to the track.

Whilst you can never be sure, it's probably about a 2 to 2.5 hours show, plus the walk back to the Metro station, and then the time for the Metro to get to the Central Station which has its own Metro station.

Pick a good meeting when the opponents can be expected to attack the track. It's got tight bends and long straights but you still get some decent passing and racing.

    I can see this happening,

Unfortunately Lawson doesn't seem to have the equipment to get him through the championship league, but even after he was axed he was still there for the second half every week, he seems very passionate about speedway still, having him in the devils would be a very good advantage, plus he could still share his skills and experience with the younger aspiring riders. Will never forget how Lawson used to fly round Armadale in his prime

I signed Willie in 2002 to ride in my new Gems team, along with Jamie Robertson. He was a natural from the start, but we lost him that year with a broken leg, after being hit after falling by a following rider. His style was almost identical to David Bargh and later Kenny Larsen, going in hard with full lock on, and able to exit the 2nd and 4th bends wheels in line and power still on. But for his mechanic, and moving around the Northern teams, he would have been a top rider in the second league. Still looks  the same, with the same boyish looks he had then.

Signing Archie Freeman reminds me of another geordie who rode at Hyde road…. Mike Hiftle

Mike could not get in the colts side and He rode for Glasgow in the top division…. He averaged around 5.5 which is good going in his first season in the top division

He did ride for the Aces later on

Went to the same school and Boys Club(same as Mike Watkin). Mike H was alway a happy go lucky lad and daft enough to try anything, so I wasn't surprised at all that he became a speedway rider. Never heard anything about him for years, so not sure if he has left the area(North East).
