  1. It’s back! I wanted to wait until April and all teams had announced their riders. So build a team upto 40.00 points and the highest end of the season average wins!

Only 2 riders from each club are allowed in your team. Averages can be found on the 2022 teams thread or BSPL site.

Can everyone who has posted their team on the old thread, please post on this new one.

    Previous results were:

    2021: 1st Hawks1975, 2nd Islander15 & 3rd Iron Scorpion

    2019: 1st Iand, 2nd Flipper11 & 3rd DJC.

    2018: 1st Hunters, 2nd SKJ & 3rd CUFC_Brummie.

     2017: 1st Eagles69, 2nd Islander15 & 3rd SKJ.

2016: 1st Halifax Tiger, 2nd John Leslie, 3rd Turn Two.

Do you mean nationality-wise or ability-wise?

In terms of nationality I don't know if Luke was born in England or Australia, but he'd qualify as British because his parents are British (being the son of the former Belle Vue and Wolves second-halfer Frank Killeen - known as "Fearless Frank" or "Frank the Fence" depending on how he was going at the time).

In terms of ability, I don't know if riding in an Australian State Championship still allows him in the NDL on a 3.00 average.  (presumably it must).

I meant in terms of nationality. That’s interesting to know thank you. And his ability is irrelevant as anyone can ride NL, there is no minimum standard.

Comes in pretty much the same as Connor Bailey has British passport

Yes I meant how is he eligible for a British passport.

If true, not sure why Oxford would take him on loan? The purpose of their NL team should be to build an asset base for future Cheetahs riders, not Wolves riders! I wouldn't want to use a rider on loan from a club who he's never ridden for!

Oxford need a reasonable team to get thru fans to watch it and it’s a new venture so they were of course starting from scratch. If he’s riding for the Chargers then there’s a clear avenue for him to ride for the Cheetah’s Championship side too which benefits then and obviously could form part of a good future relationship with Wolves if Oxford need any riders in the future.

More shock comebacks in the team but Stoneman and Jenkins is a powerful top 2 and strong middle order with Hopwood and Hagon. Clouting will benefit from a change of track. Will run the numbers un a minute and see how close or far out it actually is?

So the latest i can find are

    Jenkins 9.56

    Hagon 5.75

    Clouting 4.30

    Stoneman 8.22 (2019)

    Hopwood 7.16 (2018)

    Total 34.99

So looks like just needs a point reduction on Hopwood and a pair of 3 pointers will fit?

I can’t remember for certain, but didn’t Hopwood ride for Plymouth after IOW in 2018? His IOW ending average was 7.16 but 7.37 at Plymouth.

  4. Welcome back Ben Hopwood! It feels like ages ago he rude but it was only 2018.

A strong top 3 of Hopwood, Jenkins & Stoneman. Good luck to Stoneman who deserves a decent run after several nasty injuries. Hagon will continue to improve. But it could be a very long tail.

Has anyone seem confirmation of Hopwood or Stoneman’s averages because they must be getting reductions to be within the points limit?

To be fare to ‘ Ghosty ‘ he/she makes a good point. We are expecting a complete novice new to the NDL , who may race once a fortnight if he’s lucky to then race against a rider who turns out twice a week in the championship and perhaps once a week against Grand Prix standard riders?

Trying to get new fans is hard enough when you say our rider ‘X’ also rides for another team in a higher/ lower division ?

Theres an imbalance there that you simply cannot explain to non speedway folk with any sense of credibility.

When you put it like that it does sound nonsensical. But I think the thing we don’t know at the minute is how will the Premiership number 8s really play out. Sheffield’s number 7 might not get injured and Thompson might never ride or can he fill in incase of loss of form?

  6. Congrats to Hawks who is the winner and was the last person to pick a team!

    1. Hawks 1975 53.84

    2. Islander15 53.56

    3. Iron Scorpion 52.32

    4. Sings4Speedway 50.93

    5. DJC 50.86

    6. Reginaldspeed 50.80

    7. Technik 50.58

    8. Flipper11 50.27

    9. Hunters 49.56

    10. Bloom89 48.48

    11. Potteringaround 48.29

    12. Secsy1 45.67

A lot of people chose Atkins or Freeman whose averages didn’t change due to injury.

What a strange question   Ace will most certainly be ready to make the next step, develop and learn in after all what is a Development League. He will be under no pressure at Berwick and will get all the help and encouragement he needs from everyone.

At least some some others gave a sensible answer.

  8. Not a bad team. Gilkes could be the league’s top rider (Bickley will have something to say about that though!). Atkins in on a false average and Andrews is prolific at home. Those 3 should get them the home win alone most weeks. Best of luck to Extance coming back and he’s always been a rider I enjoyed watching. The might find it a bit tougher at the bottom end though as I’m not sure how good Meadows will perform which puts some pressure on young Trigger. Hopefully they can find a proper number 2 to give those two a season at reserve but I have a feeling they might be under the points limit.

good team that personally think max Perry will put a couple of points on to his average fairly quickly , with a mickie dropping down to reserve so will still Leave them strong at 6/7

Of the new 3.00 riders, I can see Perry being the best.

That's what I was thinking too. But then they riding in 3 leagues technically. So can everyone do that now?

You’d think there needs to be a rule adjustment as a Prem no. 8 is unlikely to get many rides, if any. But with Mulford already signed up, it’s not fair to block him from riding NL when he’s only done 1 season and still has things to learn.

Nathan Greaves started 2021 on 9.22, which was his Champ ave doubled (4.61), not his most recent NL average, which was 8.36!

I forgot to add ‘whichever is highest’. Morley will be 9+ but for some rule change they’ve not told us about.

  12. As Aarnio has been signed on his home form, I’ve had a look at his home scores in 2021 in all comps and he got 69+4 from 32 rides which is an 8.62 average and 9.12 with bonus points. Very impressive!

His only poor meeting was in his opener against Leicester in the KOC when he scored 3 from 3. But that was Leicester. His other meetings were against Eastbourne, Newcastle (without Barker), Edinburgh, Berwick, Kent (without Batch) & Birmingham. So the glaring point there is that he missed meetings against most of the top teams, which would artificially inflate his average. Added to that fact he only rode 7 of Scunny’s 13 home meetings, so he needs to have overcome his visa and other problems and actually race to score big home points!

    Tero back then.

Yep and he’s already getting pressured by the boss to improve his away scores. Someone said on here that it felt like he was always 1 or 2 more bad meetings from the axe this season, and it felt like that for me too. He only produced the goods when he knew he absolutely had to. Given that you start team building with a clean slate, it seems a strange choice to bring him back.

Two rule changes have been agreed concerning team composition:

Any rider who started the 2021 season in the NDL and achieved an average above 4.00 in the Championship is still eligible to compete in the NDL.

Is the above a rule change though? Max Clegg had a Champ ave above 4.00 & doubled up last year (briefly). So what has changed?

There was a rule that if you’d ever achieved an average above 4.00 in the second tier then you couldn’t double up. If memory serves me right, it stopped Tony Atkin & Jon Armstrong getting short second tier roles. But you seem right about Clegg so they must’ve formalised that rule change now!

I was assuming Ben Morley would come in on his NDL average from 2019, whilst with the IOW which was 9.17.
But if it reverts to his CL average from 2021 of 3.91 that doubled being 7.82 he would be an absolute shoe in for any NDL team this coming season.

It’s his latest NL average that you use, so 9.17 for Morley. Which tbf is more indicative of his abilities b
