So when old bob was younger bob back in the day, Wimbledon tried a system where a scaffold pole was placed behind the bikes at the start once the green light came on to prevent riders moving back.

Not placed at you Bob not one bit, but god with the trouble the sport has in this Country why would anyone be that bothered about a trivial ruling.? Stupid rules and over complicating speedway has totally ruined our model in the Uk it is totally flawed.

Think I remember reading on here that Poole may be struggling to sign him next season, due to the Wednesday race night clashing with Denmark?

If Friday availability is any better, I'd happily take him!

As Gr8scot said, no meetings left. Just my poor attempt at alternative humour

In other news, I would also like to add my congratulations to Mildenhall on their National League title win. No need for play off nonsense. Always good to see.

Hugely impressed with young Nathan Ablitt. The lad can't gate for toffee but he's good to watch. Decent lines, very aggressive, attacking the track. Nice wee style too :)

I see Nathan ride at Swindon before the pandemic a few years ago certainly has a future.

I take your point and I agree  although we would have won by a bigger margin in this meeting had Hume been at reserve. I will be a very happy Pirate if he is back next season.

At the end of the day Blue all riders have to make the step up sometime in a dog/eat /dog world.Really pleased for Danyon that he has made real progress this year his average for next year could be a hindrance for him  hope not.

They both did. Just shows how well Hume has done this season, now he is at 2. Basso still getting used to tracks don't forget. First time at Leicester tonight. Plus Hume is hardly the first RS to move into the 1-5!

No you are right Lisa but the rule is not right , young Thompson at Leicester is  a prime example. He is a talented young lad who should also of been protected and the likes of Cook, Kennedy,Basso should not get the chance to find there feet at reserve.I believe the likes of Thompson, Hume ( ect) should only move up into the top five in there second season.

i think i just looked at GI history and the fact there first  plan was to pulled the place down and build houses ... i think its harsh to think yourself as naive on this because they really went to town on this .. Big plans , Photo's with MP'S with  Rosco , Clarke . arm and arm at council meetings etc etc .... Very hard not to think it would happen seeing  how big the dream they were selling

Life is unfair but the LIES that we  were told are unforgivable really the supporters deserved better. Not surprised though the last year in 2019  when they changed the track shape  was good there were a few teething problems but the track ended up serving up some great racing.

I think most fans were never to worried about a new stadium and were more than happy to stay in the old one . Of course a new Stadium looked like it would  secure a long time future for the sport in the town but of course Gam int have plotted, hoodwinked and conned every one  as they do every time useing the building of the New Stadium to stop Swindon from running hoping to kill the club off so they can knock the old Stadium down with no one caring enough anymore  to stop them .

As i said already said  its matter of time before the work will stop for so reason stopping us from running in 2023 as well

Gutted Orion really gutted today hurt not surprised though .  Me and you have not always got on but you were right you were always pessimistic you did get shot down over the months but you were  totally right. I was naive thought everything would pan out but after today no hope in my view DECIDED done and dusted a rubbish day.

What posts are you on about ?   unbelieveable was your stupid gloating the moment you knew a digger in the car park you could not even wait a day to start giving stick to the people who dont think a stadium will be built   ... What a idiot you look now.

All Swindon fans want them  to race again but don't want the total bull that is fed to them .

Orion, for me  i am not not to worried about the new stadium yet to not run again( no Covid excuses says it all). Not surprised they  could  still run  in the old stadium and be viable 1, 200   plus most meetings think that is it end of angry upset gutted.

Reading some of the posts on here from supposed speedway/Swindon 'fans', one could easily believe that most want the Robins NOT to return!! Unbelieveable really.

Really god most Robins fans have trusted people and in LIFE in general.I believe the Robins are finished,  i was deluded thinking that things would work out in my heart wanted things to pan  out  well .I can’t see it now houses to be built on the Abbey soon  it will be demolished when it suits them.

He would stand at the start line at Cowley shaking his head at another Hans lightening reaction start!

I can’t remember seeing Colin ride in 1969 for Hackney but that was the only time i see him race Steve. The same as Ove Fundin only see him ride once in 1970 and unfortunately never got to see Bjorn Knutsson or the brilliant Peter Craven ride a real regret of mine.Thinking of Colin did he once consider coming back after those horrific injuries but was told it was to risky.? he must of worked hard to get back to that level of fitness.

  10. Got used to seeing Colin going about his business quietly at Swindon  i got him to sign a few Hackney photos a few times. He was a guy who i was quite wary of but he was ever so pleasant to speak to loved speedway and what a servant he was terrific.Along with Kilb, Broady, Wellie, Crash, ( ect) he was very approachable had time for people a real people’s person..The one thing that often gets forgotten is just how good a speedway rider he was and he had his best years still to come until injury curtailed that.RIP Colin.

Not a dog fan, but dont think that many dog meetings ahve a crowd nowadays , they are staged and streamed online . So  no aor very limited spectator facilities needed.

As for the speedway - how on earth does anybody in their right mind think that the folks in their brand new £500k houses adjacent to the site are going to accept a noisy speedway track on their doorstep . Get real , smell the coffee. There will be 200 noise complaints on the council's desk before a wheel is turned.

From the promotion team, I dont think Terry Russell has been in the best of health,  Alain Rossiter  is very enthusiastic about anything and everything, whilst Lee Kilby was last seen licking his wounds after the demise of Eastbourne.

Old Bob you need to have a real think sometimes in what you  say ? ? Lee Kilby is not to blame in what happened at Eastbourne as for the 500 k houses  500 k you  are joking  ??? Those people who bought those premises  should have no say whatsoever they  knew the speedway  was there it has been there from 1949 simples. If they are not happy  pick somewhere else they should  have no say at all.

Well Pirates certainly put Glasgow to the sword tonight. Middle decided not to make any changes and gave full quota to Cook and Ruml, who perhaps didn’t deserve their 4th ride. But such was the dominance it mattered little and didn’t even bother put our two unbeaten riders out in heat 15.

To be honest I can’t see this Glasgow side challenging in the playoffs. Yes, they have Nowak to come in, but Poles often don’t travel well and certainly need to time settle in. This late in the season he is going to look at all the different shaped tracks and be expected to bang in big scores. Not likely.

It was reported that Stefan is hopefully out of hospital tomorrow. Cracked collarbone, 6 broken ribs and a pain turned lung. Time to recuperate.

As for the meeting. Track was very good. Smooth and no issues. Danny King said post meeting it was awesome.

Rory Schlein. Much improved from Wednesday.

Basso. Getting there. Lost position in heat 1 and went to back.Looks the part. Best meeting yet. Loads of improvement to come.

Steve Worrall. 12 point max. Great performance.

Ben Cook. Did well in his first but then struggled. Lucky to get 4 rides.

Danny King. Third max at home in a row. Great form. Lovely pass of Wells.

    Ruml battled every race.

Danyon Hume paid 8 deserved an extra ride.

For Glasgow, Cook was not his usual self but battled hard.

Nicol was the best rider. Likes the Poole track and was very unlucky in heat 15 when leading but his bike dropped a chain or seized, throwing him violently into the fence. Lucky to walk away.

Brennan battled but should be at reserve.

Jensen was woeful in his first 2 rides, then popped out and held out, before heat 14 which gave him another paid win when Poole didn’t make a change.

Crang was crap. Sorry no other way to put it.

Bailey battled and was rewarded a win in heat 14.

But only one team in it. Pirates go marching on, with a slightly depleted team. Next week Plymouth and  the return of Bjarne, hopefully, and Crump, both probably making their last every visits.

    Brennan at reserve.??

...and Vaclav Verner won the Yorkshire TV Trophy ahead of Lee and Penhall....and Reg Wilson won the Jubilee Trophy ahead of Mauger and Autrey. Good night's work for those riders, but pretty meaningless in the grand scheme. I don't imagine Mauger and the rest lost too much sleep either.

I don't want to come across as knocking Davis. As above, I think he got the maximum from himself. I don't think it as been mentioned...but at one time (and possibly still holds true?) he reached more British Finals than any other rider. Which is testament to his professionalism and longevity. But I don't think its plausible to suggest any World Final was poorer for his absence, that just doesn't paint an accurate picture.

He was a good rider for a long time, but that's it. There's a good reasons why through Davis' career he remained a fringe rider for England and guys like Louis, Simmons, PC, Jessup, Lee, Morton, Carter and later on Wigg, Doncaster and Tatum were automatic picks for a few years each.

I think you are right ? Davis reached 15 British Finals 1976-1991( missing out in 1990).        Chris Morton reached 14 and Peter Collins 13.

ps. sticking with John Davis...this is a cracking little documentary...

In many ways, it inadvertently puts it in a nutshell. I don't think there were many riders around then who would have had the foresight and vision to bring something like this to fruition on TV and provide a brilliant showcase for him and his sponsors. On the other hand, it also shows that he was a notch below the likes of Carter and Morton (who have a belting race here).

Great video and what a race that was between Mort/ Kenny there race in the 1983 NRC Hyde Rd was just as thrilling.

A bit odd that, Sid, that Swindon didn't achieve more on the team front considering having many top riders turn out for them down the years? Perhaps the promotion wasn't that bothered and the incentive was often lacking?

1980 was a lovely side and if Phil had of started the season we would of pushed hard that year.Steve you can relate to this because Oxford like Swindon had some weak teams over the years  then to get the Hans/ era must of been a dream come true. For me the team winning did not matter having a regular feature in the team like Keen, Hitchy was brilliant the fans could relate to continuity having a hero.

Didnt go for most of 70s, 80s, 90s, but fortunate enough to see Briggo, Broady, Ashby, Kilby, Adams, Doyley, Darcy, even Zagar and Andersen in Robins racesuits.

Not a bad lot Doris, i never got to see George White which was a shame.Even though i kept going my enthusiasm for speedway wavered from 1990 until Crump (jnr) and Gollob got me enthused again.Today  my enthusiasm is at a alltime low the sport never helps itself never looks to progress if Swindon or Oxford don’t operate i can’t see myself going much maybe take in the odd Torun/ Prague weekend.
