  5. Enjoyed the trip to Monmore Heath on Monday, came home watched it on youtube and it scared me, a real tough battle for points and a real high level of skill on display and surely the most frightening first turn around.
  6. Looked it up now, thanks, still a bit of a shock, rival groups eh? I had no idea. We get up to Monmore for both types of speedway when possible so I have an interest.
  7. Banned? no please what?

    Footwear In The Pits

Will do, though it might be better if I don't, being extremely aware of the risks the guys are taking. In case you haven't already, check out a set of early two piece leathers, thick leather a mass of padding and heavy. Take your point, I was mainly referring Dean Machines point about thrill seeking riders not giving a hoot and no I wouldn't wear flip-flops inthe pits.

    Footwear In The Pits

In response to the above, think of the money riders could save on helmets, goggles, gloves 'n' all, were it not for restrictive safety rules.

    Rip Bryn

Barry Thomas has just sold his Crayford race jacket with proceeds to go to the Ben fund, in memory of Bryn, for £771.
  20. I don't know where it was exactly but will investigate. I'm fairly sure that regular meetings were run, fortnightly even and the riders were paid. Bob Jones rode there often and at the first meeting at Cowley organised by the same promotion.
  21. Sandford on Thames speedway was a loose dirt track run as a professional speedway type outfit, I have an interview with Bob Jones talking about this place and also the Gorse Hill Autodrome which I will put on youtube sometime soon.

    Speedway Agm

A few comments on our sport's aged problem...many years ago my idea for speedway was to make the music so good they'd come for it on it's own. Swindon's p.a. originally was a top class Tannoy, you couldn't get much better, for most people in the1950/60's it would be the best sound system they'd heard. It was a great place to listen to music. They often had a group playing after the the meeting in the bar. As for Grandad's music it's making a lot of money in the auction houses right now, certain genres kids are desparate for and thanks to em vinyl records are exalted. There's nothing uncool with your Rock n Roll, Ska, Soul. Blues, Reggae and even Jazz it forms the basis of what they dance to now. For many years now I've argued long and hard for the causes of Speedway and Hillbilly music, in many peoples eyes, just about the two most uncool things you could mention. Right now Country music is finally cool! everyones doing it, gotta make you smile. If Country can do it so can Speedway, possibly. Oh yeah another thing, the far right tried to hijack country music and failed miserably, hope the same can be said for dirttrackuk. P.S. Oxford had a good sound too, back then.
  24. bet you can't find many educated people to back you up
