Frank Evans rode at Knowle Stadium, Bristol, in 1960 (Provincial League), with an "F" on the back of his race jacket.  He had a motorcycle shop in Bedminster (Bristol).  , with his bike on show there.  His son Richard? also rode a bit, and was involved in the running of Swindon some years ago.  I think Frank rode mainly in second halves, with an occasional team appearance.

Apologies for delayed reply, when I mentioned Fred Tuck I'd forgotten about Frank, shame on me, especially as he top scored for Swindon '52. I bought this jacket from W. Clarke of

Knowle so it's probably Frank's. His son Richard had rides for Swindon, Milton Keynes and Weymouth '77 '78.

I'm sure it was mentioned in Peter Oaks "Off the beaten track" pages within the Speedway Star. It is a race jacket & it has letters rather than a number on the rear. It is believed that the whole team wore their initials rather than a number. I can't remember what team it was but Bristol seems to be sticking in my head.

I've got an ancient Bristol Bulldogs race jacket with F on the back, could it be Fred Tuck?

I did start a thread with this some months back. Didn't get much response though.....

I gave it a like, good to watch again, filmed in 1951 surely?

While that may be true, Bob was probably the most under-rated of the three. Swindon's Number one for four years, he led the Robins to the National League title in 1957 with an average of around 10.5, and the only riders to score more points during the season were Briggs, Craven, and Peter Moore.

Also, we can't forget him winning the Christmas Vase at Wimbledon on Boxing Day 1956, ahead of such riders as Nigel Boocock, Peter Moore, Ron How, and his brother Cyril.

Also, he scored eight points in his first world final.

Why is everybody getting so uptight?-lets go back to talking about the CH pork sarnies  (sorry!!!!)

I first went to Cradley in '64, age 14, sidekick to a novice  rider, didn't get a pork sandwich but got stuck into the Stingo in the bar after the meeting. Have to say we loved going up there

and found it real warm and friendly and always had a good time.

That is a beautiful JAP, what speedway bikes still should look and sound like!

You look to be taller than the average rider but still really stylish. Also, is that a 22" rear wheel?

Apologies for misleading people, I was alluding to resizing and posting photos ("if anyone can do it") definitely not riding speedway, something I would never joke about.

However I have had a go and your right, I am tall, here's a Mick Kilby pic.of me at the Mike Broadbank training track '67.

Not me, it's a modern pic from the U.S.A. rider unknown.  A 22" rear wheel it is for sure, which were used there long after they were banned here, when Martin Ashby first rode over

there they were still in use then.

Sorry, have tried to upload a photo, but have been told it exceeds the limit, not sure why. My bike ( and my riding) was not exceptional, but I enjoyed myself! I started with a Weslake, which developed a weird problem, then switched to a new Jawa engine, Jawa 2 speed gearbox and a Godden frame, was having fun, then lost my job, (sounds familiar), not ridden since!

If I can do it, anyone can.
