    Admission Prices

I used to pay 2 Bob, 10p. at Highbury kids enclosure mid 60s, look at the Arse prices now!!! Speedway has got far too expensive, why very few go now. It doesn't attract the AB social class spectators that can afford season tickets at Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs etc., Even Surrey cricket at the Oval is 35 quid for 3 hours at the t20 blast. Are you getting ya pie n mash delivered up there Chris? Regards Keef.

    Witches v Tiger's 12th June

Remember when Rosco brought him over from Poland in 2017, Swindon were near bottom, then went on a record 17 match winning run and finished Champions.. Doyley and him kingpins in the 2017/19 title winning teams. Great heat 13 race last night. Unfortunately ex-Robins Bellego struggling and Ellis not so good this season.

    Poole Vs Swindon 10th May

One Swindon fan on facebook said he was shouting and crying after heat 15. Such a shame Swindon closed, used to be some great racing between the Knobs and Moonrakers. How speedway has gone downhill in recent years, sad to see, after the glory days of the 60s, 70s, 80s. In 1979 Blunsdon held 37 meetings, 7 individual meetings!!!

Oxfam is much nicer than Poxford

    Your Favourite Danes (Pre-1995)

Not speedway related steve, but was chatting to my relative, Josh Abbott, the Oxfam City Star ice hockey striker, said half the Oxfam team are from Swindon. Some relation to Steve, ex- Oxfam speedway.

Yet there was a capacity 3500 at Oxfam.

    Poole Vs Swindon 10th May

Surprised the Swindon Select won that after the heavy defeat at Oxfam. Doyley didn't win a race last time out. Swindon Robins normally did well at Poole in the latter Premiership years, like Coventry, one of their favourite tracks. Shame the 1000 Robins fans that were at Cowley didn't make the long trip to Dorset. These meetings perhaps would be better run during school hols, plus the iffy weather, and at least you dont have to pay in advance. It keeps the Swindon Robins name alive.

Oxford Vs Edinburgh KOC 1st leg 26th April

Good start to the season from Oxfam. Nicholls on fire.
  9. Did many Swoinedown fans make the trip up the a420, was it record crowd? According to the Swindon Advertiser nearly 1000 Robins fans were there, out of 3500? Possible track share with the Ox.? A mate had a ticket was going to go but had to work late, a case for paying on the door on the day, lost 22 quid. Sack Rosco, and Doyle and Ellis. didn't win a race. Good luck to Oxfam for the season, with all these tracks closing a beacon of light for British speedway.

    New, New Cross memories

I remember Joycey from my night's out in Oxford City Centre in the 70s.

    New, New Cross memories

Was there last year, I reckon most of the white working-class cockneys have moved to Kent. A bit of gentrification around the Old Kent Road. The New Den is still full of white faces, very few black faces, but same as Arsenal, Wet Spam, Chelsea, etc., most fans won't live locally like they used to. Lots of different nationalities around there now, Jamaicans, Nigerians, Nepalese, Romanians, Portuguese, Brazilians, Turkish, Polish, Chinese, Asian, etc., stores

    New, New Cross memories

But it was a bit dodgy being an Arsenal, Charlton, or any other fan around there in the 60s. That's a fair old hike, New Cross to East Dulwich. I lived in Nunhead, about 30 minute walk, for the dogs post 63 and the Den. Dulwich Hamlet about 30 mins walk as well. Dulwich and New Cross 2 different worlds now. I used to go across to Highbury when i was 10 or11, train and tube, no major problems 66/67. But even then there were certain areas you didnt feel safe in.

Let em all come down to the Den!
  14. Wouldn't mind the crowds they had in 2007 though, stronger teams, Adams, Crump, Pedersen, Hancock, etc., and the 11 team Elite league before Oxford ceased in May.
  15. Apart from the admission and lack of communication issues the Ox are in the enviable position of being in a catchment area of millions of would be fans, half of London, and with no Swindon or Reading, the Thames Valley, m4 corridor, some of the west country, most of southern England, south Midlands, perhaps a bigger catchment than Belle Vue, around 10 Million? potential supporters. With good promoting and marketing should be very well supported, getting at least 2-3000 regularly per meeting, best supported in Britain, especially in warmer weather. I used to follow Workington, stuck out on a limb on the west Cumbria coast, but still well supported. Teams such as Lynn and Berwick out on a limb with small surrounding population. Still feel Ox need to be in top div. for massive interest, so fans can watch the top riders, Doyley, Sayfutdinov, Pedersen, etc., It's a far better stadium than the Swindon Shabbey, more seats, better viewing, cleaner bogs, free car parking. They need to have a good season with exciting racing to sustain the fans interest. And to eventually have Premiership status as the Robins did . Speedway not the same without Poole, Coventry, Swindon, Reading in the elite level. Look forward to visit this season.
  16. Tickets still available, hopefully the weather won't win.
  17. Be interesting to see how many other clubs operate the Oxfam way. Plenty of older people still don't have smartphones or computers. And speedway attracts a mainly older fan.
  18. Thats why i watch non-league football now, Cirencester Town and Dulwich Hamlet mainly..A tenner to get it at Ciren, friendly, family atmosphere, good facilities, good pitch, good standard of football, endeavour from players who may have played for Swindon, Cheltenham, Forest Green, nearby, and only get about hundred quid a game, train hard but hold down full-time jobs.. Around 22 quid to watch Swindon Down in bottom div.
  19. Have only tried their Facebook/messenger page. Perhaps they could fit the fixture in end of August if it is rained-off after end of the League campaign, for the Swoinedown fans that only want to attend this one-off fixture, then they don't lose out. Will get up the A420 for a few matches this season, a few Robins, Coventry, Reading, etc, fans in attendance last year. Support British Speedway.
  20. Totally agree with that. Oxford speedway never reply. And its cash only for programme. Hope they get some good crowds this season. They would get a few more if they changed their admission policy.
  21. Same here. Poor weather forecast. Will it be re-run if cancelled, perhaps during the summer months. No need to charge 2 quid extra on the day, but good luck to both teams and fans if it goes ahead. I would go to Oxfam more if you could pay on gate. Oxford Chargers v Workington in August for me.

    Your favourites Swedish riders (1950s-1994)

Fundin, Knutson, Nygren, Soren Karlsson for me.
  23. We used to climb in at Blunsdon when I was 12, then they made it too difficult
  24. Would have liked to have seen Musielak, Jensen, Bellego, but would be too one-sided. Will wait until near day to get tickets, weather dependent, as you can't pay on gate. Programme is cash only.
