  1. Looks a pretty good line up! Hopefully they'll be a big turn out of Exeter supporters with there being a fair few former Falcons in the field.
  2. At Somerset last night it was announced that the Mark Lemon Testimonial Meeting will be held at the Oak Tree Arena on Friday 18th September. The meeting versus Scunthorpe scheduled for that date has been moved forward one week to Friday 11th September. Jason Crump is hoping to be there for Lemo's meeting. Also Friday 14th August is going to be a special "10 Year Anniversary" meeting for Somerset Speedway.
  3. Nothing different from Nicholls again tonight. A good rider no doubt about that but a shame he has all the country's expectations on his shoulders. How long before he's back racing in the Elite League?

Didn't see that result coming! Looks like it could be a competitive GP season with the young generation of riders like Jonsson and Lindgren really able to mix it up with the likes of Crump, Hancock & Adams who showed they're far from past it. Nicki Pedersen to win again though. Can't see any likely challenge from the British riders, they're simply not at the same level.
  5. It was good to have a presenter on the centre green, something that's been missing at Newport in previous seasons. I liked to hear interviews with the riders as the meeting is in progress, but could you please hold the microphone closer to the interviewee so that it's easier to hear what's being said. I could hear the questions but not the responses. Hopefully the PA will be sorted for next week so we can hear loud and clear. Keep up the good work!
  6. These accidents today, along with the injury to Adam Roynon made me think. I've never ridden a speedway bike so I don't know, but it must be really good fun riding and racing speedway, or else why do these guys do it. The chance of serious injury, pain and broken bones it so high, and it's not as if there's big financial rewards. Speedway riders must have a special mentality, racing hard but when in reality the next crash could be literally just around the next corner. How do they manage to block this out of their mind? I hope all the riders who are injured are back to full health as soon as possible and to entertain us once more. I saw Matt Read in the pits and that again made me realise how much speedway can change someone's life. I love following the racing and being at the track again after the winter was great but i'm quite happy standing on my side of the fence.
  7. A nice day weatherwise but the injuries spoiled the day in terms of speedway. A good sized crowd at Newport, boosted by plenty of people like me who'd generally watch speedway on other tracks. The racing was typical of an opening meeting individual event, not particularly exciting but nice to see racing again. The first major incident was Craig Watson's accident in Heat 12, he seemed to simply loose control on the inside of the second turn leading to him career towards the fence. Unfortunately he hit the wooden fence not the airfence, Mark Lemon did well to avoid Watson's bike which was bouncing across the track. Craig was treated on the track for quite a time before being taken away in the ambulance. News was of pain in the upper leg. In the very next race Jason Doyle fell on the first bend on the second or third lap, hurting his shoulder in the process. Again there was a delay in proceedings and the ambulance was required. These unfortunate delays meant the meeting was reduced from 20 qualifying heats to 16. Mads Korneliussen withdrew after his second ride in which he had mechanical problems. Not sure why klindt withdrew. A big shame about the injuries, but great that Newport are back on track, i'm sure there are many who doubted that would happen.
  8. Weather forecast looks good at the moment, sunny intervals and 13 degrees according to the Met Office website. Looking forward to the meeting!

Is Davidsson scoring better in the Swedish league than he is here in Britain?? Perhaps he has an 8pt average, so his selection would be no surprise in Sweden.

    Gb Team In The Final

I don't think Simon Stead or Chris Harris have ever ridden regularly in Poland, and so will have little experience of Polish tracks. However i believe both should do okay, as both Stead and Harris are big track riders, whose careers got going on the larger circuits. However Mark Loram definitely should ride if fit, even if it means dropping Joe Screen. If Britain are to win, we need the best team. Be ruthless if necessary, this is sport. As the last post says, remember last year Joe Screen told Middlo to pick Havelock for the final. Perhaps he'll do the same thing this year. Screen definitely wants GB to win, with him there or not.
  11. Haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else. At Belle Vue this evening it was announced that Josh Auty and some of his fellow under 15 riders are set to have some demonstration races prior to Saturday's GP. It'll be good for them to get to ride in front of so many people, well done the authorities for letting them do it.
  12. Has anyone used the trains to get away from Cardiff after the GP?? I was wondering whether there were additional services to the timetable, and where these trains were going - Newport, Bristol...??? I can remember there being big queues at the station quite late at night in the past. Did everyone get on the train?? I don't really fancy sleeping rough in Cardiff until 5 in the morning. Can anyone help??
  13. If the TR rule is to be scrapped at the forthcoming BSPA AGM we need another controversial breakdown on the last lap of a major televised meeting so that the TR can be used in Heat 14. Perhaps this will happen in the EL Play-Offs, and then there will be outrage like there was after the Eastbourne vs Poole match. Hopefully this will happen and the promoters will scrap the rule. I hope they are aware of our feelings.

    GP 2005

The organisers probably will be trying to spread the riders out evenly between the nations. Taking what Arnie suggested, the current top 8, plus Nicholls, Richardson, Hampel and Bjerre that leaves. Australia 2 Jason Crump & Leigh Adams Poland 3 Tomasz Gollob, Jarek Hampel, and Tomasz the qualifier. GB 2 Lee Richardson & Scott Nicholls Sweden 3 Tony Rickardsson, Andreas Jonsson & Antonio Lindback USA 1 Greg Hancock Denmark 3 Nicki Pedersen, Bjarne Pedersen & Hans N. Andersen (Who'm i missing??) Plus the last seed, which has to be between Ryan Sullivan & Lukas Drmyl IMO. The way they're spread out seems pretty good, not a bad field at all.
