Has there been a stockcar meeting at the track by any chance this weekend?

The latest announcement on the BSPL website mentions a stock car meeting but it was only smaller Banger classes plus 2L and 1300 Saloons not the big F1 cars which do rip up a track. Unless the track was very wet before the racing started it should not have suffered anything that could not be put right in 24 hours.

Is there anywhere we can view the data from these transponders?

The stock car promotions, as well as many kart and Motocross tracks post the results on Speedhive but to date speedway has not done so.

  3. How speedway can fail with transponders when many of the tracks run stock cars who have been using transponders for many years with very few problems. System works for 20 plus cars but can't manage 4 bikes. It must be a totally rubbish system or the transponders are fixed too high on the bikes. On the cars they have strict rules about where they are fixed including how high above the track.

Wrong decision. Plymouth once again making a mockery of the sport. Worst run club in the Championship!

How does losing your number one to injury before the season starts make you a badly run club. If it were true then some of the most successful clubs in the sport would according to you be badly run.

I think the situation proves that there should be rules about what happens when a team finds themselves in the position that Plymouth are currently in. Those rules should take into account the effect on whichever club has been unlucky enough to be facing the problem Plymouth are in and also consider how such a rule affects the sport as a whole.

Any new rule will also have to consider what happens if the injured rider then decides not to take their place in the team while riding in other countries or due to retirement. ALL the promotions need to think very carefully before agreeing to any such rule(s) as the last thing the sport needs is another badly written rule that is open to interpretation depending on who is asking.

  5. The thing about the team needing seven riders has to be for the meeting that is cancelled. According to the BSPL website they have seven declared riders but one of them is injured. I can't remember a team being thrown out of the league because a rider has suffered an injury in 65 years of following the sport.

  6. So we had two planned meetings on Thursday. One went ahead on a damp track and the other was called off. Some supporters have said that the meeting that went ahead should have been called off and at the same time others have criticised the promotion who called their meeting off for not trying to run.

Seems to me that whatever the two promotions had done they would be told they had done the wrong thing! I constantly read that promoters don't have a clue but when there are only two possible actions in a situation both courses of action are criticised.

Maybe this shows just how difficult it is to run a speedway track and maybe we should accept that while we all think we understand how things should be run, we are not the ones who can lose a fortune running the sport.

Said same thing to a friend yesterday who made comment about scunny, maybe it’s a sign of decline or something else, however, when they said that clubs are going to be made to run 2nd half racing I will believe it when I see it! MDL racing is the level down from NDL so I thought riders would be keen to get in there, so is it clubs or riders that don’t want to bother??

That all depends on who you ask and who is asking.

Lots of free parking, as others have said.  Maybe take a pocket torch with you for after the meeting, the lighting in the car park isn't great and the surface a bit uneven.

At least that is better than Rye House used to be with dead glow worms for car park lighting and a very uneven surface with lots of water, even in dry spells, hiding the holes!

  9. I note that the date for the 4TT is 1st September on Facebook and 4th August on the Kent Kings website. I am surprised how few fixtures they are planning although they may only be the first set and more will be added to fill the gaps.

Looks like Isle of Wight ran a successful mixed discipline meeting last Saturday with the senior speedway part won by Chad Wirtzfeld. Taken from Facebook.

The Warriors website has a report which mentions the winners of all the classes and also says Wirtzfeld has recently signed for the famous Belle Vue Manchester team.

  11. Why is it that developers always want to build on ground that has a stadium on it and think it is a good idea to build a new stadium on some other land? Why don't they build their bloody developments on the other land they want the new stadium to be built on?

  12. I went to an England v USA test match at Crawley Heath which was held on a Saturday afternoon. After the Speedway I carried on to Coventry for the evening BriSCA F1 Stock Car meeting. A very enjoyable day which I think was in the early to mid 80s. The Cradley meeting was sadly the only time I visited the home of the Heathens. There was a very good crowd. I am sure that with proper promotion such meetings could be run successfully but the importance of proper promotion must be understood by those involved in running such a meeting.

I have just looked at the international speedway website which shows that such a test match took place on 5th May 1984 which being the first Saturday of the month fits in with the Stock Cars racing at Coventry in the evening. Not a happy series for England as they lost 4-1 in the five match series. The Cradley meeting was the third in the series and started with the series even at 1-1 after England winning at Sheffield in the second match.

Simon Wigg always suggested putting the "junior match" on before the "main event"..

    Two reasons..

One, being the younger lads got to ride the track at its best, and in front of a " big" crowd, which can only help those who progress to the higher levels..

And two, as he described, when you go to a restaurant you don't have your starter after the main course..

Six heats of junior racing done in 25 mins or so with fifteen mins of track grading/visit the bars before the "main event" would tick a lot of boxes for young rider development and value for money for the fans..

And, before we get the usual "what if they crash and delay the main meeting"?..

Spoiler alert. Speedway is a dangerous sport where even the best can, and sadly have, been left disabled for life, or even more sadly, lost their lives..

Crashes are not exclusive to young inexperienced riders..

It would be good to see "something different"...

In the last two seasons at Rye House they always ran the junior races before the main event. It gave the juniors a good track for their races and also encouraged the crowd to arrive early which meant the last minute crowd got into the stadium quickly. I always enjoyed the pre meeting action and think it is a very good idea.
