It is strange only seeing one Swede (Lindgren) in the GP but I don't think they are on the decline. They have a good youth system but it could just be the current crop of their international are not top class. Countries that once dominated tend to have dips. It happened to the Danes in the years between Nielsen's retirement and the emergence of Nicki Pedersen. The Aussies had a duff period for a while until Crump and Adams started to make a name for themselves and even the Yanks are going through that stage now though Luke Becker is approaching the breakthrough stage of his career. I would say given a few years time there will be some more top class Swedes.

Workington v Glasgow 11/05/24 3pm (Ch)

Really excited for this one today. If I have my maths correct Niedermaier has to win the meeting and hope Haarahiltunen finishes no better than 3rd to force a run-off or alternatively finish 5 Grand Prix points clear to take the crown outright? Edit - That was one of the best meetings of any Speedway discipline I've ever seen. The sign up fee to watch all four meetings was worth it and excellent value for money.

Workington v Berwick Border Trophy 31/03/24 3pm
JamesHarris replied to topaz325's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I hope she does prove me wrong. I really do. However I see through this as the publicity stunt that it is and if Celina doesn't cut the mustard she'll be cast aside once the novelty of putting bums on seats and the media attention dies away. Some of you may know I ran a Scandinavian Touring team in the 2010's. There was a really good female rider called Nanna Jorgensen I wanted to bring over and I will put my hand up and say I thought it would bring us good publicity as well as giving Nanna a platform. However Nanna was very honest and said she wasn't good enough to race in the UK and I believe she was a better rider than Celina. I also gave outings to Rachel Hellowell when I ran the MDL. The difference now is Celina happens to be in the right place when companies want to be seen as ultra inclusive but I feel she is also being used. -

I assume you are a smart person so what do you think? One can look at this two ways. 1 - the rose tinted way of how wonderful and progressive this is. Equality for women in Speedway. Or 2 The realistic way - This is a PR masterpiece. Lets jump on the equality and diversity bandwagon. The media will be all over it and it may get us a few more sponsors in the meantime. I'll let you decide. -

Afraid so. It is only fair she is given a few meetings but I've always said this looks certain to be a PR stunt and a box ticking exercise that will backfire and if it does then it will put women's speedway back again as no promoter will ever touch a female rider for a long time after. -
I asked a question some time ago on here as to who was the last non Russian to win a round prior to them being kicked out and I'm sure the answer was Gunther Bauer in 2003. Could be wrong though. Gunther is there in Inzell so you could always ask him

I've just paid for it. Seems a good deal. There is a pirate stream on FB but the anti virus on my laptop won't touch it. It's flagged up the highest security treat so not worth it.

Anyway, enjoy the festive period.

And your limited grammar says it all.

Taking into account the limited intelligence of most people on the Speedway Forum your comment and the lack of understanding of my post doesn't suprise me.

Exactly and that is the argument I always put forward in cases like this. A very good example is Horse Racing and Racheal Blackmore. She is one of the best jockeys out there. The media have tried to big her up as a trailblazer for women but she will have nothing to do with it. As far as she is concerned she is on equal terms with the blokes and no fanfare should be given to her just because she's a woman. However my argument has also been it should be the best person for the job regardless of whatever gender, etc they are.
-
Spot on. I have nothing personal against her and genuinely wish her well. But as with her wild card in a round of GP2 this is just a case of box ticking from the Workington promotion and a publicity stunt (a very good one at that). I would like to see more female riders at the higher level but they have to be good enough. Everyone loves a novelty but soon the novelty wares off. The Comets fans will soon get tired of her if she doesn't do the job after a few meetings. I do hope though that she proves me wrong.

Well 3 of the 2023 Wolves have already been signed so if you take out the rising star that's already half your team mate.
-
I know I've mentioned this somewhere else on the Forum over the years but the Tom Farndon story is well worth looking into. He was box office of his day and with Speedway in it's pioneer days he was somewhat the Beckham of the shale. He was an absolute superstar and the money he made was incredible,
-
Didn't he only ride one meeting and then left because he wasn't paid? Apologies if I've got that wrong but I'm sure that's what I heard.
-
Would I be right in assuming that the Wolverhampton team will be moving to Birmingham?
-
Has anybody mentioned Trent Raceway near Burton yet? It's an established dirt oval and has been used for speedway practice. I'm sure Tom Wolley posted video's of him having a skid round there on youtube.
-
I did post on here back in February that I spotted a dirt oval being constructed opposite the A1 services near Grantham. Check out Hook Cliff Wheels in a Field facebook page.

Just wondering if anyone could help me with a question please? Which clubs in the UK actually own their own grounds? Off the top of my head I can think of Scunthorpe, Leicester and Redcar. Thanks

You'll find he's occupied elsewhere today trying to win a World Championship -
Sorry to go on again but the original posting has peed me off a little. We are a nation that pride ourselves on welcoming others but recently anything or anybody Russian is scum. Indeed we have seen in sport people refusing to shake hands with someone that is Russian. That is wrong. It's not just wrong it's racism. The sad thing is the same people who have jumped on the Ukraine bandwagon are the one's who preach the anti racism message but fail to see how racist they are themselves by suggesting that anyone who is Russian should be cancelled just because their nutjob of a leader invaded another country. Were all German's Nazis in the 1930's/40's? Do all Russians support Putin? Stop being such bloody racists you hypocrites!!
-
How those who probably denounce racism can be such racists themselves.

Clubs that own their own tracks

Well that is very interesting. I'm a Bluenose and I've not heard anything about this so if true it's very exciting indeed.
