One small but vital difference - many millions are capable of pulling that pint or waiting that table while only a handful could race the speedway bike......

Yes, the pool of riders isn't what is should be. All self inflicted of course.

  • allowing riders to race for multiple teams, halving opportunities
  • a lack of development for yonks (although some work in now taking place)
  • no real pathway from grass-track - hundreds of successful riders came from GT to 2nd halves to long careers. This happened more by luck than design. But should there not be a formal relationship between British Speedway and Grass Track providing a pathway through? Good for speedway and good for GT too

Oh, and by the way....I always pulled a great pint :D

The grasstrack convertees have drifted in and out of fashion over the years there was a point when thats all that was looked at, then they were seen as leg trailing yokels (not all Richard Halls fault) and motox was the switch discipline of choice. Equally there was a point when it was only schoolboy grasstrack that was available for kids and the switch didn't take place until 15/16 but with the youth afforded much more track time and exposure youth grass isn't as strong as it once was.
