Bydgoszcz GP

If Rico has offered to meet up with you with Tom gooner_girl then <snip> :clown -
Personally I don't think it is feasible in speedway. The nature of the sport means that, as we have seen all too often recently sadly, injuries play their part. In addition, football clubs have vast squads of players to pick from. In speedway thats just not viable as riders are paid by points and not salaried

Andrew thank you for all that! I have now discovered thanks to you and my cousin (another Andrew!) searching the loft that contrary to previous belief my first ever speedway meeting was in fact Cradley v Reading! Hey I've been to Cradley! Thanks for all the help guys I appreciate it!

Thanks Andrew - I will try that too!

I was taken to my first (and second) speedway meetings as a kid in 1979.....Easter weekend April 1979 to be exact ( I was very young honest! ) when I lived in Birmingham. It was the first time I was allowed to go anywhere without my parents lol Until today I was certain my first meeting had been at Coventry. However having spoken with the cousin who took me he thinks I am wrong and is pretty sure the first meeting he took me to was at Cradley Heath followed by a Coventry meeting later on in the season. Its got me really curious and he is away to search my uncles attic when he gets the chance to see if he can find the programme but I don't hold out much hope for the search! Does anyone know if there is someplace on the net that I can find out who the two were riding against that weekend and the result? Not asking for anything much then eh! I'd just like to find out for definate who/where my first meeting really was. Feel I should be saying I'm looking for my Hercule Poirot cos I'm no Miss Marple!

In my experiences in Scottish football Mylor it doesn't work that way unfortunately. I think even in English football the pinch is beginning to be felt showing that even there what is happening is that the rich are getting richer and the poor are facing extinction as they overspend to try and keep up. One thing speedway has to make sure it doesn't do is go into the spiraling debt football and rugby clubs have found themselves in in recent years. In football we are doing it from the bottom up-clubs are investing more in youth and less in players they can't afford. In speedway some promoters are trying to do the same and should be applauded for it. Unfortunately they will still always be at the mercy of the money men coming in and stealing away their best riders but hopefully that will be tightened up in the near future.

Okay lets move on.....back to the original subject (sort of!) Who would people like to see doing the studio comments if they were available? One of the earliest speedway meetings I saw on the tv had Jan Staechman in the studio for comment. I found him really easy to listen to and informative and refreshingly honest (which might be why he isn't doing it now lol). I know many people might prefer a British rider or ex-rider doing it but my vote would go to Stekkers. Anyone else?

Some really good ideas from B2BM and Rach, I particularly like the (long overdue) old hands limitation and overseas riders coming in at heat leader thus making it more biased towards young British talent. I honestly don't think you can run it as a pukka 3rd division Dekker. I feel that to try and to so would take the emphasis away from improving young riders as clubs would see winning the 'title' as more of an aim than developing youth. On the whole I am not in favour of 'north/south' league divides as I feel it can weaken rather than strengthen the overall standard. I may have to concede though that I can see the financial sense in it as a last resort at CL level. It just concerns me however if there are 3 excellent kids in the South and only 1 in the north any one season the kid in the north looses out on the chance to ride against more appropriate oppostiion and thus improve (or vice versa).

Rule concerning dead heats in GP's
Lioness replied to Peter's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I honestly don't think any referee would be brave enough to award a dead heat-I think he'd be expected to call it one way or the other and therefore it would come down to the individuals thoughts and feelings on the matter. -
Err....... Havent a Scooby! I was never any good at Geography as Blondes on Tour to Newcastle proved

It doesn't have a mainstream airport tho Kevin! Rumour had it on the terracings in Glasgow last weekend that one of the main problems Glasgow had when they tried to sign Hansen was the travelling. Aparently its a lot easier for him to fulfil his foreign engagements from Hull (presumably by overnight ferry?).
-
That depends on the individual and how they define 'best' rider Steve..... there are arguements on both sides imo!
