Its a fair point politey put. I dont expect riders to be holier than thou - I doubt if many clubs would have a team lol. Im not holier than thou myself nor do I claim to be. We are probably all aware of a rider who has broken the law and done the time for less extreme crimes and been rehabilitated and come good in speedway and in life. To me its down to the severity of what someone has done and it wasnt *just* burglary for Garrity. For me it also would reflect on the sports credibility with the wider public, those who dont follow speedway but will quite happily jump on the back of the sport allowing someone convicted of his crimes being 'typical' of the people involved in the sport to object to speedway being allowed at a new or existing site

Its explained in the rest of the post that you havent quoted with examples

You judge me wrongly. I care very strongly for the disabled individual he assaulted and put the fear of god into and basically ruined the final few years of their life. You do realise he didnt just burgle the house? Its also very telling the tone of your response to Fishersgate when you admit you wouldnt touch him with a bargepole compared to your rather aggressive responses towards me when I am saying the same thing. I wonder why?

As I have already said if you cared to read my posts, its horses for courses. A school teacher can be struck off if convicted for behaviour outwith his school, you would not put a paedophile in charge of a nursery, Raith fans will tell you what happened when they tried to sign rapist David Goodwillie. You commit a crime, you do the time. As I have said I have no problem with him being a plumber although I wouldnt want him to be going into the homes of elderly or vulnerable. He can be a labourer if he wants or any other number of jobs. He has though forfeited his right to a sports position where he would benefit from sponsorship and get publicity and could possibly be seen by young or vulnerable as a 'hero' because he can ride a bike well. He's not a hero, he is a violent thug who served time for what he did to an elderly disabled individual in their own home. Let him get on with his life away from speedway - the sport does enough to make it less appealing to possible new supporters without the ruling body being stupid enough to see that allowing him back as a rider will give every nimby in the land extra ammunition to object to speedway and speedway tracks.

what a mature well thought out response. I'll keep it simple and realistic and point out that what happens in LA or anywhere else does not justify going into the home of an elderly disabled person, scaring the rubbish out of them and stealing their money. Lets not reward those who do eh
  6. someone's had a banter bypass this morning!
  7. Quick question for those up to date with the rules etc. If a track record is broken in a meeting that is subsequently abandoned with no score declared, does that track record still stand? It just seems a bit bizarre as everything else about the meeting is expunged eg nothing counts towards rider averages. It just seems bizarre that a track record set in that way would stand
  8. Lol Fromafar I can't help it - once a pedant, always a pedant. I was also the kid whose favourite words were 'but why' lol

I get your points Humphrey Was he high on drugs when he committed the offence? Can or should that be taken as an excuse? Or is he just nasty? WIth regards going into employment I very much feel its a horses for courses situation. You wouldnt put a child abuser in a position within a school, I certainly would not be happy about a plumber with his record going into the home of an elderly person - doesnt mean he cant be a plumber, just that I wouldnt want him in the home of a vulnerable person. Sport is a slightly different kettle of fish. There is the aspect of people in sport being seen as 'examples' to their fans and therein lies the crux of the matter for me. I dont think we should be putting someone with his record back in a situation where he will have 'fans' including the young and the impressionable

Yip, I agree I've said to someone who pulled the old 'I have a reliable source so I am right but I wont tell you my source' sort of thing that if you arent willing to name the source then keep schtum. Its the same for this situation It was worth a cheeky attempt at trying to get the name though I didnt for a minute expect it to succeed though As an aside though, it concerns me a little that the drugs side of thing is what is being concentrated on rather than what he did to a vulnerable disabled elderly person in their own home. If you want to get over the narrow minded perception of some of speedway's image, Im not sure granting him his licence back is the way to go about it
  11. Thanks Fromafar. I had looked at it differently. There was no official result as the meeting was abandoned. In football, if a guy scores a hat trick for Arsenal but the game gets abandoned after 60 minutes the three goals are expunged from his personal record. Its just one of these curiosities that hit me lol

Serious question, who is it that you worry about?

That wasnt what he was in jail for though. He entered an elderly persons house, assaulted them, put the fear of god into them and stole. Im all for rehabilitation and acknowledging time served but there are exceptions to this rule for me, and that includes this sort of behaviour, drug dealing, child abuse
  14. Depending on where he is travelling from and the summer schedules it is probably cheaper for him to do that and more convenient Fair play to the fan picking him up!
  15. I always think if you are going to say ‘someone told me but I’m not going to say who but they are a rider’ then you shouldn’t bother. Firstly if you won’t name your source don’t say it, secondly if your source was talking to you off the record it’s not exactly enhancing your credibility if you run on a public forum to imply it to make yourself look important. At least that’s what I’ve been told by someone who knows these things and is famous but I can’t tell you who
  16. Yeah thats another crazy thing. Fans are quick to complain about lack of value at speedway yet when promoters agree to delay 15 minutes to give fans as strong a meeting as they can they get hammered for that too. I cant believe I am sticking up for promotions but in this case I think they are getting unfair stick (and unlike some I speak out when I think someone is being treated badly)
  17. I dont think it was Stevie Lawsons fault either!
  18. I know you can blame speedway promotions of r a lot of things but to be honest I dont think rain of biblical proportions can be down to them
  19. If you are really interested the WADA banned list can be viewed at The Prohibited List | World Anti Doping Agency (wada-ama.org) Even in the pharmacy we would have to start off on line with this
  20. Im trying to figure out if you are brave and single or married and have a death wish lol
  21. See when Glasgow announced that the meeting was being delayed, are you sure they said it was to let FANS in and not VANS? It was some entrance from Chris Harris though and to go on and get a paid win with no chance to warm up or mentally prepare was impressive Edited to add:- I agree with you 100% Bloom89. Harris's commitment to the sport has been superb, its a shame not everyone has his ethic
  22. I was told directly from a rider a few years ago that all prescription meds must be disclosed and they should also be advised if any other meds are prescribed throughout the season. I'd be very surprised if that had changed tbh (although I dont know)
  23. Topical medications just affect the area they are applied to though and don’t go beyond the skin layer (unless one of a very few used in extreme excess and even then it is very unlikely) That would take a transdermal product which would be on prescription. It is a very complex area. In individual cases and medications even pharmacists would reach for the reference books That is why it is best to wait and see what the lab says and take it from there
  24. There’s a nice wee ignore button you can use.
  25. Obviously not. That’s fine though, if you don’t want to take a piece of friendly advice that’s fine, your decision . It might be prudent to check your proof is fail safe just in case
