    Brummies

A lot of this is probably be due to there being no speedway in Birmingham for 21 years. I was 17 when it closed after the wheels. I was brought up with speedway as my dad had been a young fan himself at Perry Barr when he was a child. Birmingham lost those generations of prospective new fans between 1987 and 2007. Unfortunately during those 21 years life and what to do with your leisure time changed massively too.
  3. Didn't Tony Mole apply one of the years Newport were first unable to run it and the Council said no? If he didn't I've obviously mis remembered!
  4. Mr King certainly won't score as poorly this evening as he did on his last visit!
  5. Star City does not have any shopping. There is a large cinema there, a casino and a few eaty places. There is a shopping park close to star city call The Fort (near Fort Dunlop) but just general shops nothing exciting. Shopping in the Bull Ring/Grand Central or The Mailbox in the city centre may be considered slightly better shopping areas.
  6. There is the Sealife Centre in the city centre. It'd take about 30-40 mins to get to perry barr from town (quicker if no traffic). There is also a children's farm at Sandwell Valley and in the adjoining park there is a large play area. There are also lakes and an rspb area in Sandwell Valley that you can walk around. You'd be at Perry Barr in about 10 mins from here.
  7. Maybe Emil has been persuaded to double up.....
  8. I'd imagine if you made an offer to the promotion to pay the wages of the 'best team manager in your opinion' along with their travel and other expenses, you could have anyone you wanted! I'm sure Nigel would be happy to sit and discuss this with you.
  9. Found it! Stop looking! Thanks
  10. Slightly off topic from today's 'hot conversations, but could anyone kindly tell me the date of the speedway star which featured Birmingham's 2022 review? Many thanks!
  11. He was indeed as a youngster. I remember rye house at brum when Adam and Tai rode for Rye House. Tai literally flew over the fence one race and the rest of the team were incapacitated somehow. Adam and a.n.other Rye House rider kept their team going and only narrowly lost. Brum were lucky to have Adam the next year after and was indeed faster than Lord Lyons at times but didn't get in front of him to many times. If he had? Who is to say. They were exciting times indeed, but unfortunately luck never stayed on Adams side after a crash a Rye House later that season. Shame would have loved to have seen where a fit Adam Rpynon would have ended up.
  12. He's 65 Hedid get a better and a slightly faster skid in his second go round! Lovely to see the new generation of Grahame's having a go round too.
  13. Yes perhaps. But as you identify the brummies fans of old who even know who you talk of ( I do have knowledge of them. ), are thin on the ground now. Its about onwards and upwards! If you don't want to go, fine. Leave the people who are trying to it xxx
  14. Regardless of whether you think its pointless or not, I expect some Bees fans will enjoy seeing speedway involving their race jacket. Also i understand the club have an agreement with the stadium to stage at least 20 meetings this season. So, as it's likely to cost them one-way or the other, they may as well have some bikes out having a run round.
  15. Thank you Brian, I stand corrected. I was but a young girl when speedway was taken from perry barr in the mid 80's and was obviously not as involved as you and others to eventually bring it back almost at the start of my 4th decade of life. Something for which I am grateful and thank you for. Be good if they (the council and birchfield harriers) could be persuaded to have GP speedway (or any speedway)in 'the park', but I reckon it'll take until at least my 7th/8th decade of life to persuade them! Fingers and toes crossed in the meantime.
  16. Do you know much about Birmingham Council? It took Tony Mole 21 years to persuade them to allow domestic speedway in a stadium lots may call its 'ancestral home'. The Alexander stadium rebuild has cost the earth and the locals have lost a great park too. So I very much doubt they'd allow those dirty smelly noisy bikes anywhere near it....unfortunately. Unless someone can persuade them that lots of of troublef free ££££'s are likely to flow into the hotel and transport systems......hmmm could be something in it, but they'd have to be talking big bucks for the council I'd suspect.
  17. Yes. Also there will be a lot of road closures in the area whenever the other stadium is in use which would make access to and from the speedway slightly more difficult than usual.
  18. Yet you continie to moan, and 'Joke' about the situation and do not support your team or your friends who have tried so hard to keep Birmingham going. Hope you and others similar to are proud.
  19. The M6 junction is/was closed from Monday to Thursday this week. Should be back to normal next Wednesday.
  20. You can now access one stop more easily approaching from junction 7 and the a34. You can turn right now into one stop at the end of the a34 where the flyover was. It is easier to get in and out of one stop and easier to walk to the stadium.
  21. I forgot about the 46! I think it may still run. As you were! Lol.
  22. You may be better to get a taxi from Hamstead Station? There are diamond buses that do go through to West Bromwich that will drop you not far from the hotel, but I am not sure how frequent they are. The other number 16 buses terminate at Green Lane and the hotel is still quite a walk from there.
