    Carmarthen Dragons Meetings 2016

The Carmarthen Dragons completed their second fixture of 2016 on Saturday. Continuing the club's ethos of continuity with their riders, the same four that rode against Exeter took to the track again at Stoke. The final score was Stoke 26 Carmarthen 10. Riders scores were: Carmarthen Russell Barnett 4 Lawrence Fielding 0 Connor Fletcher 3 Danny Wright 3 (including a first heat win for the Dragons for Danny). Stoke Sam Wright 9 Ollie Rutter 5 Mitch Beckett 6 Will O Keefe 6 So the Dragons now move on to Kings Lynn on July 14 as they continue their 2016 "tour" of the UK. Discussions are underway for fixtures for the 2017 season as are plans to look for a permanent home (see the thread on the return of the Carmarthen Dragons for an updated press release for news of this).

    Carmarthen Dragons Return!

A quick update as to where we are in respect of the return of Speedway in Wales with the Carmarthen Dragons. The press release reads: "At the time of writing we have completed our second fixture. Unfortunately both of these have resulted in a loss for the Dragons. However, we have taken huge steps forward and considering we are doing this the hard way by riding all of our fixtures as the away team all over the UK, our lads haven't had the benefits of riding the same track week in and week out, no two tracks are the same, bike and engine settings have to be changed which allows no time to experiment or settle in. Our team spirit is second to none as the team are beginning to gel which is in line with our policy of keeping a regular team instead of a win at all costs and different riders appearing in the team. The supporters need a regular team to follow. With regard to a home track, we can now say that speedway will sadly never return to the Carmarthen showground but this is far from the end of our search. We have been in talks with other land owners in Carmarthenshire with positive results so far . We will make further announcements as progress is made . We are already looking forward to the 2017 season as fixtures are already in discussion with a big fixture in the planning stage. The club will make a progression in the near future and when we can announce it, we will do."

    Second Half Meetings....

Great post It was "spot on" in the fact that if people want to stay to watch, they can, if they don't, they don't (as you said). As was written, these events help the youngsters progress in some cases to NL standard and beyond.

    Second Half Meetings....

The Carmarthen Dragons are "on tour" throughout 2016 at a number of venues up and down the country in second half meetings and would appreciate your support. For me, second half meetings give young riders the chance to ride on good tracks in front of a crowd, however small with more experienced riders in the team to lend a hand (as with Carmarthen). I feel that these meetings are crucial in the development of riders up to NL level (as with Henry Atkins of Exeter, who ride extremely well against us recently). From NL, back in the early 2000's, I've seen very talented riders, such as Danny King and Edward Kennett ride at Carmarthen for Peterborough and Rye House amongst others, who have then moved up to Elite League. I also enjoy watching such development but each to their own...I can't see the problem though in having an extra 6 free heats of speedway after a main meeting.

    Carmarthen Dragons Meetings 2016

Exeter 24 Carmarthen 12 Henry Atkins 3 3 3 = 9 Craig Nethercott X 2 1 = 3+1 Stevie Anderson 3 1 2 = 6+1 Saul Bulley 2 2 2 = 6+1 Russell Barnett 2 3 1 = 6 Connor Fletcher 1 0 3 0 = 4 Lawrence Fielding 1 1 = 2 Danny Wright Fx 0 0 = 0 It was great to see the Welsh Dragon jacket at the tapes again for the first time in many years last night in what was always going to be a tough fixture. A gallant defeat for the Dragons against a side who showed that they had a lot more laps under their belt on the Somerset track, especially the talented Henry Atkins. Our boys were far from disgraced and Russell Barnett led the way with the first heat win of the new Carmarthen era in heat 4, quickly followed up by a win for Connor Fletcher in heat 5. Well done and thank you to all four boys who rode last night and to the management team of Lawrence, Garry and Lesley, let's hope that this is the start of the return for the Dragons. Anyone interested in helping the team in any way, please feel me to message me and I will pass it on.

    Carmarthen Dragons Return!

Finances were an issue with the Dragons home meetings not counting much more than 100 on a Sunday afternoon, despite the track being in such amazing views from the back straight, as SCB said. The land was owned by the local commerce (I think), who stated that they were building a hotel on land nearby and needed our corner of land (as we were tucked away in the far corner) for their business. 12 years on and the land still stands idle, which is probably the most disappointing thing for me. You can still make out the track if you visit.

    Carmarthen Dragons Meetings 2016

I thought that with plans for the Dragons to re-form, which if successful, would mean that they are in the National League, the best place for the thread for other supporters to see it and promote this would be in the NL section. Apologies if this in incorrect and please feel free to move the thread if to the most appropriate section if this is the case.
