Not because of that at all, but it does prove it can be done.No it doesnt! (Assuming you're meaning it can be done and be worth doing)
Fair play to Somerset for putting together that line up for £13, but it doesnt prove anything.. We will never know if it would have worked cuz the meeting didnt run
I could run a meeting and charge £1 entry, pay Hancock, the Russian, Gollob, AJ, Crump, Nicki etc 10k each to turn up - I would make a huge loss, and certainly wouldnt be worth doing!
-
If my maths is correct I make it that there will be 22 races - 20 plus a semi-final and final - so how can you class that as a rip off when the entrance fee for a normal Elite League meeting is £16?Cuz Najjers club (Somerset) offered a similar line up for £13
Personally, I dont think £20 is a rip off for that line up
-
Cant see the problem with that line up!
-
Me and a mate went down to Somerset for this meeting after Newports P&P (also rained off!). We got there about 4ish - when it was raining, and it didnt stop raining until the meeting was called off
I think the main reason the meeting wasnt called early was because most of the riders seemed to think the track wasnt in too bad condition.

I really hope Emil shows for this.. It would be a massive shame if he didnt turn up since he has been announced.
-
If the rumours about Greg, AJ and Emil are true too, this is looking like being one of the strongest individual meetings in a long time.If they turn up

The German GP?! -
Anders Mellgren also showed a lot of promise and was really entertaining, completing a brilliant overtake in his last ride. It's hard to believe he is the same age as some of the Hornets on display last Sunday......Really?
When you consider the probable facilities available to him in Sweden(?) compared to over here, it really doesnt suprise me at all!

Well I had a good day
-
Actually he is. But to stay with his entourage (all five of them) cramped up in a van in this weather for a week just to ride a weather affected track after he had suffered from frozen hands at Scunthorpe which resulted in him struggling to complete his last two rides was probably just a penance too much to pay for such a privilege.I for one won't be blaming him for that. He pulled out early enough for the organisers to find a replacement.
5 people! Surely he only needed 2 mechanics max - what are the other 3 for?!
If he was using this as his chance to shine he should have made better arrangements for his trip over here. Christ, even me and missus had done enough preparation to my van to enure that we would have been comfortable had we had to sleep in the van in our recent road trip across Europe! I can almost gaurantee his van is bigger and better than my 1998 Ford Transit
-
Is he really saying he went home because he thought to track isn't very good? Looks like the Monarchs have bagged a really determined rider there.Hmmm - I thought he was meant to be super keen to impress over here?!

Glad to see fresh English blood in the GPs. tai was a dead cert and I for one am very pleased that BSI have gone against the grain, booted Nicholls and Harris into touch, and not gone with Richardson who had his day a couple of years ago and did nothing.Kennett is young, improving and British. I would rather he be in it than some non discript foriegner like Zagar. Eddie will try his heart out and while not likely to rock the boat, its a brand new fresh rider in the series and that is very important. I am sure he will not let himself down. Together with Tai he will do just as well as Harris and Nicholls have done this year. Lets face it they can't do much worse!!
Good luck to both young Brits.
100% Shovvy :approve:

Cheers GH - Much appreciated

Does anyone know if tonights GP is going to be broadcast on the net anywhere please?

Thought it was a good meeting and a good send off for Billy. The Cradley and Wolves war cries were good too. Agree with SCB, heat 5 of CH V Wolves was abit odd to say the least!
-
Incidentally, I watched the concluding heats with the Bees contingent last night, and the last time I heard so much moaning was the night that the annual Valentine's Disco at Minety Village Hall got a little bit out of hand. I must have been about 17. Happy days!Yep, last night I realised I had missed the comedy commentary during the close season
-
Is it tapes up at 6pm?
-
I'll be doing both I reckon
-
One of the best lines up ever to grace these shores only matt davis is missing .I would have ridden, but Rosco said he wont pay you if you get lapped
-
ErrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrmHavent you told him Shazz?!
-
The suspence is killing me
-
Finally good to catch up with Matt Davis again; hope that you made it home in time for Peter Kay!Just - the old Transit van didnt let me down
-
No amount of moaning will mean Ole steps down as race director - As with most scandals in Speedway, nothing really happens, the authorities wait till everyone stops moaning and then the dust settles, it all gets brushed under the carpet and everyone keeps their jobs

Two things to say about last nights meeting..
1 - Well done to Mick and the track crew for getting the track in a decent condition considering the weather
2 - I dont get upset/annoyed about Speedway anymore but one thing did make me think "even this is stupid for Speedway". Why on earth in the Semi Final and Final did the helmet covers not corespond to the gate positions?
