When asked about the possibility of Poole in the Premiership, Middlo replied that Matt Ford said last week that at the moment its not financially viable. Possibly some time in the future but definitely not next year!

If the Premiership and Championship format makes it past the AGM , I can only see Oxford and Glasgow making the step up. Whether they are willing to is a different matter.

Cardiff has been a jewel in the UK Speedway crown..

Sadly. A crown left hidden away in the back of a cupboard, and not utilised anything like enough to grow the UK sport off the back of..

Think the jewel in the speedway crown over recent years has been Warsaw or even Torun. Cardiff has been a diminishing event for years and it will be interesting to see what WBD / Discovery Sports look to do in the future. There was a kickback from Wales Tourism for many years but with increasing costs and lack of tickets sales I wonder whether there is a change of thought for the British SGP moving forward.

Personally I am undecided whether to attend the SGP this year , it has been a family event since my children were born but the thought of driving to Cardiff and back in a day to Surrey and sitting in the abyss of the Principality with 10,000 others , it is just underwhelming.

  3. Looking at the averages on the PGE Ekstraliga most of the top 20 are the SGP riders. Laguta and Sayfutdinov are not featured due to political restrictions. Kolodziej has had his time in the SGP and admittedly is having some sort of resurgence currently both in the SEC and the League. Wozniak has earnt his spot through the SGP Challenge already and the only other young rider that you would imagine being considered could be Cierniak.

That apart it is pretty much the same riders even if they drop the political restrictions and allow Sayfutdinov and Laguta back in .

    1st Zmarzlik

    2nd Sayfutdinov

    3rd Kolodziej

    4th Madsen

    5th Laguta A

    6th Vaculik

    7th Kubera

    8th Thomsen

    9th Holder J

    10th Bewley

    11th Lindgren

    12th Wozniak

    13th Michelsen

    14th Fricke

    15th Doyle

    16th Pedersen

    17th Janowski

    18th Lambert

    19th Woffinden

    20th Cierniak

    24th Dudek

  4. To be honest the ticket prices aren't the issue.

The cost for 2 adults and teenage kids now is not too bad. However the cost of hotels is astronomical "weekend event" rates. Last year was an exception because of covid etc the date was moved and announced and managed to get a hotel near Cardiff Bay relatively cost effective. This year it was back to normal and the hotels had ramped the costs up as soon as the event was announced. So we will look to drive into Cardiff early park up and then drive home.

Agreed last year was farcical and the SGP2 was worst. The event is good in that it brings speedway fans across the country together and not hiding behind keyboards however the spectacle in my opinion has diminished whether this is the because of the cost of hotels or simply it is the same old show / format for 20 years gets a little tedious especially if the racing is a non event. Last year the spectacle was that Dan Bewley won the meeting but that seems to have been forgotten.

Personally if it wasn't for the kids wanting to go , I could easily give it a miss. The jewel in the speedway crown is now Warsaw and I would look to put the SGP at National Speedway Stadium as the racing would be far better even with a downpour. The cost of hiring the Principality and even with the ongoing deal with Tourism Wales the profit must be marginal at best.

Weather forecast for Gislaved looking good for today. Not much chance of rain, in fact, quite a hot day. Might give it a go with the stream, hoping there will be some good racing.

Got my pass now. Point to note is the pass says start time 14:45, elsewhere I seen 15:45 which I assume is 1 hour ahead of uk.

Our pre-show starts with the meeting parade at 3:45pm local time with racing from 4pm - coverage will still be available after the meeting has started and later on demand.  Our friends and colleagues at Baansportfansite will be providing live official results, available with the meeting scorechart which you can print should you wish from the image below.

Cut and paste from the email promotion from tapes up promotions who are streaming the meeting.

Shame Barker didn't get second he tried his heart out never knows when he's beat that lad.

No fan of Barker but absolutely spot on. We all know he takes no prisoners and certainly gave it his all on Monday and for that he should be applauded. Imagine if he had a little more time on a bike over the last month he my of been even a little more competitive.

  7. Credit where credit is due the track team at Belle Vue worked wonders to get the meeting on. Not only was there heavy rain in Manchester at 17:00 the downpour prior to tapes off looked as though that would be it BUT the track team and Phil Morris got a meeting on. The riders should be applauded for giving it a go in not the best conditions and if raced at any other track I doubt the meeting would of taken place.

Congratulations to Dan Bewley on winning the meeting and Steve Worrall the British SGP WildCard.  Who did what he needed to do and now fully deserves his day on the big stage at the SGP.  He may find it tough but fully deserves his opportunity.

Why on earth do premiership teams use Sam Hagon - does he pay them to ride? :D Seriously, they can't think he'll beat anyone at this level so seems such a strange choice. What have I missed?

Perhaps it is that he is willing to ride + possibly looking at the future. Perhaps it is a contra deal paid in shocks plus if he scores 0,0,0 outlay for Buster will be minimal. :D:D

Bomber is now officially "past it". It comes to every rider eventually, sadly.

     Chris Harris - 2, 2, 2, 2, 1 = 9

Yet he still top scored for the Lions.

Really impressed with Dan Thompson tonight , no doubt he enjoyed every point in his Lions kevlars.

  10. Gone for riders bets tonight.  Think meeting will be competitive between Denmark - Aussies - GB but Poland should be good enough on home shale.

    Lidsey over 4

    Lambert 0ver 8

    Pedersen over 3

    Kubera under 8

    Zmarzlik +0 vs Bewley

    Lambert +0 vs Kubera

    Fricke -2 vs Pedersen

    Lidsey +1 vs Michelsen

  11. Better meeting tonight but as a competitive spectacle that was over by heat 7 . Track had improved but many riders have said track is different from Wroclaw league meetings. The Final will be more competitive as all teams can take points off each other rather than 2 competitive teams and 2 teams of 1or2 riders.

Meeting tomorrow should be in front of a decent crowd. SWC was curtailed because Poland were winning it regularly since 2005 -2017 (8 victories in 12 years) - I would be very surprised if they don't win tomorrow on home shale but should be a decent meeting.

Rinsing and repeating, and lurching from one "most important AGM ever" to the next "most important AGM ever", 12 months later, surely must, (by definition of always using that phrase as they seem to always do), eventually have them thinking " we need another plan"...

It has been like this for decades. If you look in the Speedway Star in the noughties or 90's I would imagine much the same was being said then. This is what happens when a professional sport is run by amateurs and only looking after themselves not the collective good of the sport.

The positive progressive stories of Oxford, Workington and Belle Vue are totally undermined by the farcical situation at KLynn and Pboro. The shadow over Wolves, Edinburgh's future.

Needs a progressive and forthright CEO to lead the sport without the connection to any club but for the greater good of the sport. The reality of that happening ........

  13. Tried to make the SWC meeting a little more interesting

Backed Australia to get 43+ and Denmark to get under 47.

Then an individual bet - Lahti 10/11 to score over 6

Lahti +0 to score more than Bellego

    Lidsey +1 to outscore Pedersen

J Holder +1 to outscore Madsen

Doesn’t mention how or where he hurt his wrist strangely.  Did he have a fall in Poland ?

    Artem LAGUTA 2 3 3 3 2 13

Seemed to have a pretty decent meeting at Leszno no mention of any soil samples ... but for all Chris Louis kind words on Buster Chapman most appreciate that this is a cost cutting exercise. "El Brassico"  - Will be rained off anyway, I would think.

  15. Having watched the first two meetings of the SWC , it has been pretty dull racing on the most part. The issue with this format is that you are mainly looking at two competitive teams and two teams with one competitive rider in the early rounds.

Hopefully the play-off will be a tighter meeting with teams able to take points off each other.  Impressed with Berge tonight has improved since the SoN '21 when it was Bellego getting the majority of the points for France. Plus good to see Timo Lahti hugging the kerb, reminiscent of his days riding with the Eastbourne Eagles.

  16. I am just grateful that Speedway has a magazine. Yes ; the content is PR releases in the main but occasionally a couple of decent articles / features appear. The Briggo one was a recent one of interest gave an insight into the rider / person + character. Hopefully it will continue but having worked 15 years in media + advertising it will have a dwindling demographic and audience.
